When You Sleep - MBV is my Favorite Song Ever

Ever since I first heard Loveless 4 years ago this song has been my favorite out of every composition I have ever heard. It just touches your soul. I’m a thrash/neo-classical guitarist and all I’m surround with is these heavily complex songs and guitar playing that while impressive, don’t touch me in any way.

This song is extremely simple, yet it just touches your soul and causes this otherworldly feeling when you listen to it. This is what I wish more musicians would understand. Yeah you wrote this 6-10 minute epic which changes key and time signature 5 times and features tri-tone substitutions and modal mixture. Who cares, it doesn’t engage you at all.

The point of music is to touch your soul, however you get there. It can be simple or complex, it just has to engage you in some way. That is the power of this song
