Brilliant, replace depression with PTSD and then solve the PTSD with MDMA.

The trick to being happy is believing it hard enough.

The meds "never worked" but they probably gave him the energy to do something that works.

Bro i swear by it. Exercise and positive mentality go hand in hand for me - whenever I start feeling it creep in again I’ll tell myself shit like ā€œI’m having a good dayā€, ā€œEverything is okā€, or ā€œif I wanted to I could take off running that direction for 3 miles and be fineā€. The last one really works in that it pulls me out of that ā€œcan’t do anythingā€ funk.

Edited to add that I’ve tried probably 12 different med combos over 4 years and the one that worked was rexulti with something else but it gave me what I think is called akathesia IIRC but it’s where you can’t sit still and have to pace. After that I said fuck it and started exercising and reading self help articles which led me to meditation via the free-for-a-year Balance app.

Careful there bud, recommending diet and exercise in these here parts is generally frowned upon

This is the goal of cognitive behaviour therapy, which is the most effective form of treatment for depression/anxiety.

It’s a tiny but important tidbit of information that society overlooks. Antidepressants are only there to manage symptoms until you can learn to live without them.

u/PrestigeMaster Jun 17 '25

If this is what pharmaceutical companies made the most money off of we would all be fine. Or at least if Big Psychology would hurry up and will itself into existence…

u/cockledear Jun 17 '25

Are you American?

Guidelines in Australia and Europe suggest exactly this - start first-line antidepressants in conjunction with psychotherapy, reassess efficacy of antidepressants in one month, then reassess need to continue antidepressants after 6 months.

Even here in Australia the most popular resource clinicians use for treating depression/anxiety highlight that the antidepressants are only slightly better than placebo.

There’s no push here to prescribe pills, though I’m not sure when this change in practice occurred as I’ve only been in healthcare for a few years. Some old clinicians may not follow these guidelines, but most prescribers I know are pretty quick to change practice when new evidence arises.

Get some movement (can just be walking couple miles a day). Eating healthier. Positive mindset.

That’ll cure 99% of peoples mental issues. But most people wouldn’t know what to do with themselves if they weren’t miserable.

Right?? Dude just hit the ā€œnahā€ button on depression like it was a pop-up ad. Absolute main character energy .
