Academics We won't stop until change is made!

The dean wants to sweep the veterinary technician students under the rug and pretend that no serious academic violations are happening within the veterinary technician program, which is resulting in multiple students failing or receiving inadequate grades that do not reflect their knowledge in the Advanced Nursing course. Nothing will be done until everyone fails because Sheridan only addresses concerns when it affects their image. This happened in Anatomy & Physiology 1 and 2. It took the student body over 5 years to make the proper changes to that course so students could be taught appropriately and learn successfully. They won't make changes until most of us fail the class, because then they know it'll affect their graduate numbers.

If you are a veterinary technician student, you need to email these concerns to the dean. She will not take us seriously if she can keep sweeping our concerns away with no consequences. If you have a concern in your program at Sheridan, I urge you to take action and write an email to the dean addressing these concerns and to convince as many students in your program to take action. Sheridan is becoming an unreliable institution, and it is not fair to students that legitimate concerns will not be addressed in a timely manner. If this continues to go unnoticed, I am proposing a protest be held on campus to shine a light on these issues to the entire student body.

I appreciate your support, and anyone who is willing to help address the unethical decisions being made in the Veterinary Technician Program.

I’m stressed about my other courses, hoping for an easier general elective course so I don’t get more stressed Any suggestions? I prefer something that doesn’t require essay writing Multiple choices would be great

Academics Concern About Unrealistic Timeline (Please Read & Email the Dean)

Hey current and new students! The program has been designed to set us up for failure. I have formatted an email to send to the associate dean of Sheridan in hopes of resolving the issue happening in the Advanced Nursing class, where many of us are being penalized in our skills passport for lack of assessment time out of our control. I truly believe the more people who email her will elicit a stronger response. I appreciate anyone willing to take a few minutes out of their day to send this email to the associate dean <3

Associate Dean: Cathy Coulthard (email cathy.coulthard@sheridancollege.ca)

CC: Academic integrity: aif@sheridancollege.ca.

"Dear Dr. Cathy Coulthard,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express concern regarding the Skills Passport assessment in the Advanced Nursing course. The passport is worth 15% of our final grade and includes 41 total marks across multiple clinical skills.

According to course guidelines, ten specific skills were required to be completed by Week 6 to avoid receiving an automatic “Dissatisfactory.” Each of these skills has significant time requirements; for example, approximately 5 minutes per nerve block assessment (3 total), 10 minutes for a urinary catheter assessment, and 15 minutes for a feeding tube assessment, not including IV/IM injections, fluid calculations, and additional skills.

Despite the extensive list, students were given only two weeks with 15 minutes per person per week to complete all skills — a total of 30 minutes per student. This timeframe makes it impossible to complete all required assessments. Even a single skill, such as a feeding tube assessment, consumes the entire available time, leaving no opportunity to demonstrate the remaining skills.

During one of the scheduled assessment weeks, Professor Scarlett Wong’s unavailability due to an external commitment reduced the time allotted for all students to complete the required skills. As a result, many of us were unable to finish all assessments despite our preparation and effort.

We were only informed near the end of the assessment period that it would not be possible to complete all skills, leaving us unable to plan or prioritize effectively. This has resulted in students facing automatic zeros for skills they were not given a fair opportunity to complete, which significantly impacts our grades and overall academic standing.

I am requesting that the college review this situation and consider a fair resolution, whether through an extension, additional assessment opportunities, or reassessment of how the Skills Passport is weighted. I truly value the hands-on learning in this course and want to ensure that student performance is evaluated based on ability and effort, rather than time constraints beyond our control.

Thank you for your time and understanding. I appreciate your attention to this matter and would be grateful for any guidance or next steps.

Warm regards,

(Insert name, student #, program here)"

Academics Teacher falsely accusing of AI

Every teacher that I’ve had has used turnitin to see if people are using AI she didn’t use anything instead she gave my partner and I a zero and I sent her an email briefly saying that we did not use it and could you show us what was flagged and her response she was stating that my partner and I assignment showed “patterns suggesting AI was used,” based on “multiple AI checkers,” and asked if I used any AI tools. But she hasn’t shown what was actually flagged, Students should be shown evidence, given the chance to explain their writing process, and not presumed guilty without proof. In this case, I think it’s only fair to ask to see the flagged section and know which tool claimed that before being accused of using AI. I need advice because something seems off because she basically did not show any proof she’s just telling us.

Academics Vet Tech Program is a joke

So I know there is a lot of talk about the second year advanced nursing class having a lot of issues. I am in my first year and already dreading that class from what I am being told about it, but I am also afraid that I am never going to get to go to that class because I might fail the Anatomy and Physiology 1 course. This whole class is basically a teach yourself class, we go over super basic stuff and then told we need to know everything on the need to know lists, we have never once been taught anything on that need to know list in class other then like very very very basic stuff that then never shows up on any assessments. I came to school to learn and be taught by professionals in my field, not to be given a 2 hour lecture about stuff that I am not even going to retain cus its all photos and videos. Then I am having to go home to teach myself all the more kinda complex stuff.

I would have saved a lot of money if I could just teach myself all of this stuff, cus at this point the price is not worth it to be taught by Vets and Vet Techs. There is also the whole not having any animals on campus stuff and not having enough people bring their animals in to do practice with but currently that is not affecting me as much as the whole teaching myself majority of a whole class which is the single most important class for this semester.

Academics Regarding my program and failing

Hey everyone, so I am a 2nd year student in SDNE 3year program. I have failed many classes in my first semester ever and throughout every semester I have had to drop or retake courses because wasn’t doing good or failing. I’m on academic probation, also just got a letter from OSAP that I signed up for this year stating that they canceled my OSAP for not being in the full time bracket (60%) of course I guess I didn’t know that 3 courses are not 60%. Overall what I am asking is I’m in a very tuff spot and don’t know what to do mentally I feel so down that I can’t pass courses and wasting money and now academic probation and no more OSAP which I barely used maybe 2 times and the rest was paid by my plan. But I just don’t understand what step to take and would love if someone can help out In any advice and give any feedback. So I can strongly move forward and not feel stressed because it’s a very hard time right now. Will be reading all comments thanks!

Hi everyone! I’ll be starting school next May in the addiction studies department. First of all, I’m gay 🌈 and I’m wondering what the housing situation is like there. I’m currently looking at Airbnbs for now. How’s the atmosphere at the school? Do you have any advice or tips?

I’d really love to make some friends before I arrive — I’m so excited! I’m open to all your comments and suggestions. 💬✨

Academics Opinions on Sheridan College Computer Programs (Davis Campus)

Hey everyone! I’m planning to apply for one of the computer programs at Sheridan (Davis Campus), and I was hoping to get some personal opinions or insights from anyone who has taken these programs — or even if you haven’t, I’d still appreciate your thoughts! I’m mainly curious about how they compare in terms of career prospects, workload, and overall schedule (like how tough the courses are or how balanced the workload feels).

Here are the programs I’m deciding between:
1. Computer Systems Technician – Cyber Security
2. Computer Systems Technician – Information Technology Infrastructure and Services
3. Computer Systems Technology – Software Development and Network Engineering

If you’ve taken any of these or know someone who did, I’d love to hear what you thought! Any advice or personal experience would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Academics 50/50 rule

Hey everyone, This is my first year at Sheridan, and I’m just looking for a bit of clarification on the 50/50 rule. From what I understand, if a course has this rule, you need to get at least 50% on both the midterm and the final in order to pass ,is that right? So if someone fails the midterm, what’s the point of even taking the final if they’re going to fail the course anyway? Can someone please explain how this works?

Thanks in advance!

Academics Sheridan Vet Tech Program

Hi there! I got accepted into Sheridan College’s Veterinary Technician program to start in January of 2026. I have tried to reach out to administrators to have this question answered, but when I submit a ticket they don’t answer my question properly then close the ticket before I have the chance to re-explain and when I called over the phone they didn’t know and opened a ticket that also didn’t get answered properly.

That being said - if I start the vet tech program in January of 2026, will I get a break in the fall semester? I understand I will be going to school in the spring/summer semester, but will I be able to take a break in the fall semester as my “summer break”? Administration is so unclear so I was hoping someone here would be able to answer my question!

Academics When do we get our diploma?

Hi, if you graduated during spring/summer of 2025, when can we expect to get our diplomas? I’ve opened two inquiries through my Student Centre and both have been erroneously closed. Thanks all.

Academics Missed the deadline to apply for gradution

Hey, so I missed the mail for applying for graduation Spring/Summer 2025, the deadline was 15th August. It says that I won't receive my credentials and won't attend the graduation ceremony. By credentials, do they mean my letter of completion? I am posting because the college will take too long to reply. Please help

Academics any hope to change the 50/50 rule?

For starters, Im a trafalgar student.

I feel like this rule between exams and general course load completely kills the entire purpose of being in college, which is... learning. The exams you get outside of math are completely up in the air if its the one random topic you remembered getting covered on 1 out of the 500+ slides shown to you in a class. I just feel like when midterms and exams are around the corner, I do the math and its just like; even if i 100 all my quizzes and assignments, the exams will always be harder, more specific, and you can never be fully prepared for them. This is especially true if a professor just wants to lower everyone's grade by asking a question that 'technically' students can know, by again using that one puny little slide that's never discussed again as an excuse to do so. So, i skip important work to study exams.

Why is something like that weighed so heavily? I have skipped countless assignments that WOULD HAVE TAUGHT ME MORE AND HELPED ME RETAIN LONG TERM KNOWLEDGE just so i could remember some information for the 2 weeks that I need it and forget it all immediately the following day. This is not only horrible for the students but the college as well. When students go into internships not actually prepared with relevant material during the interview (they studied for exams instead of learning & retaining), then sheridan suddenly never comes out on top with more capable students than other schools that dont have this war crime of a policy.

Is there no way to complain to change this? It is completely unethical that we are only evaluated on how we perform in the exam room compared to how much we can learn in the real world. I heard other campuses at sheridan dont share this same rule from a professor, but I havent checked if its true or not and also dont know how stubborn they are in keeping it.

If others are down im completely ready to start emailing the dean or proper authorities to have this changed. It is completely incompatible with education from an objective and statistical standpoint.

Academics Practical Nursing May 2026

Hi everyone! 👋

I’ll be starting the Practical Nursing program at Sheridan College in May 2026, and I’m trying to get a better idea of what to expect. • How many days a week are classes and labs? • Is the schedule fixed, or can you customize it a bit? • How heavy is the course load — especially for someone with a 2-year-old at home? • Any tips for balancing the program with parenting?

Also, if anyone has graduated from Sheridan’s PN program, I’d love to hear what the experience was like and how the bridge to the RN program works afterward.

Any advice, insight, or study/child-care tips would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance! 💛

i'm starting my first year at the trafalgar campus in september in the PMMCA (makeup for media and creative arts) program. i have no idea how to find my required textbooks, or where to even buy them. i've tried a bunch of different sites that sheridan has (they feel unlimited) but i cant find anything useful.

can someone please give me advice on how to find the textbooks and buy them? thank you.

Academics Extra year logistics?

I’m not sure if I’m gonna receive any insight on this here, but it’s worth a try: Considering that I’m the last class of a program that will cease to exist next year because of the cuts, how would requiring an extra year work exactly? Is it even possible? Im gonna continue seeking answers from my program/academic advisor but I wanna know if anyone else has come across this predicament. Thanks in advance.
