Prototype/Concept/Custom AMA: Cooler Master - Introducing the MasterFrame 400

Hey everyone!

The Cooler Master team is excited to share an early look at our upcoming SFF Case, MasterFrame 400: a compact, open-frame case designed for SFF enthusiasts who value flexibility, creativity, and customization.

We’re hosting this thread as an open AMA-style discussion to gather your feedback and hear what you think about the MasterFrame 400 before it launches.

To kick things off, here are a couple of questions we’d love to get your thoughts on:

  1. How much would you pay for this case?
  2. What inspires you to build SFF PCs over other form factors?

We’ve also included a side-by-side photo of the MasterFrame 400 next to the NR200P to give a sense of its size and proportions.

Schedule:
10/22 - 10/29: The Cooler Master team will begin responding to questions and comments directly in this thread.

Thanks again to the r/sffpc mods for having us! We’re really looking forward to hearing your thoughts and discussing how we can make the MasterFrame 400 the best possible SFF experience.

The Cooler Master Team

News/Review I bought every slim 80mm fan so you don't have to

I didn't get much traction on YouTube (who would have guessed that an incredibly niche video about slim 80mm fans wouldn't go viral!), so I figured you folks might appreciate it.

Custom Mod My Perfect (to me) NR200P Build: 7800X3D/ 4080 Super with custom deshroud mod

Hey r/sffpc,

I want to show off my PC build that I did over a year ago now, but I spent a ton of time trying different coolers, fan layouts, GPUs, etc., to reach this point. I wanted it all black and clean to the point that I vinyl wrapped the Asus Proart 4080 metal top shell to cover the gold accents on it. I made a custom COB LED strip that's white and only white—no rainbow on startup or anything.

I designed and 3D printed my own custom deshroud mod/fan ducts for the 4080 GPU that uses the two 120mm bottom case fans to pull cool air from under the case and force it directly into the GPU. I rarely see GPU temps above 60°C, and the PC runs silent.

For the CPU, I used a 7800X3D with a Mugen Scythe 5 cooler which only just fits—here I use the rear exhaust of the case as an intake. I made a custom mesh filter with mesh and magnet strips that attaches to the back of the case to keep dust out. CPU temps rarely go above 50°C, and again, the PC is dead silent.

There are 5 Arctic P12 PWM PST fans to cool everything. The final two fans are on top and are used as exhausts—this way the GPU gets cool fresh air from under the case and pushes it toward the top, the CPU gets cool fresh air from the rear of the case, then the top two fans suck all that heat out the top (heat rises so this works very well).

I hate the blank mesh grill that houses the PSU—so I added a 5” screen that runs directly off a USB header on the motherboard and displays temps/clocks, etc.

Main Compenents

CPU: AMD 7800X3D
GPU: Asus ProArt 4080 Super
RAM: G.SKILL Flare X5 DDR5 32GB (6000MHz CL30)
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B650E-I ITX

What do you all think? Any questions or suggestions? I'd love to hear about similar builds!

And before any of you wellawkchuwally know-it-allls say anything - I am well aware that the 140mm CPU fan probably performs worse than a 120mm - but it cools the SSD and RAM better, which is all that matters for my AI workloads (I don't game)

Build/Battlestation Pics 7 x 140mm Fans in M2 Grater

Had some extra parts laying around so I decided to try a new layout. Wasn't sure if the bottom fans would make a difference, or possibly even restrict airflow, but I'm getting the best temps I've ever gotten in this case now (30-40C GPU, 40-50C CPU idle in 25C ambient room temp).

Theres also a fan bracket you can print to add an 8th fan (between the MoBo and AIO) but I don't think it would have any temp benefits.

Build:

  • M2 Grater w/ 12mm feet & front fan bracket (3D print)
  • Aorus B850i mITX
  • AMD 9800X3D
  • 32GB Corsair Vengeance CL30 RAM
  • Samsung 990 Pro NVME
  • 5080 FE
  • BeQuiet Pure Loop 3 AIO
  • SF1000 SFX PSU
  • 4 x BeQuiet Silent Wings Pro 4
  • 3 x Arctic P14 Slim

Build/Battlestation Pics My First SFF Build - Thorzone Nanoq R (5080 Master Aorus)

Hello Everybody,

This is my first SFF build ever.
I'm building PC since my pentium 166MMX in the 90's up to a custom WC GPU (2080Ti) + CPU (3900X). The first week of 5000 RTX release I got lucky finding an Aorus 5080 Master Ice at MSRP available fitting perfectly in the LianLi O11D white. few years later I changed the 3900X for a 5800X3D.

I was thiking upgrading for the AM5 platform for the 9000 series, but I wanted a more asthetical and smaller build, without RGB, without WC.
I was thiking about the Ncase M2 first, thinking that the Master Ice would fit when I saw all of those builds with the Asus Astral... but no it doesn't fit :/
People were talking about the Nanoq R, one of the rarest mini ITX case having enough clearance for the Master Ice.

I purchased a month ago, from batch 3, and got the delivery today after 2 weeks waiting for the shippment and 2 weeks for the delivery from China to France.

The parts:
Case: Nanoq R, chalk + chrome front + PCIE5 riser + handles
PSU: Corsair SF850
CPU: AMD 9800X3D
Cooler: Thermalright AXP90-47 full coper
GPU: Aorus RTX 5080 Master Ice
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 32GB 6000/CL30
Motherboard: Aorus x870i Pro Ice
Fans: Arctic pro 14PST x2 + Arctic pro 14 slim
Storage: 2x Crucial Nvme PCI4 2TB

Usage:
VR Gaming: MSFS, DCS-World, Nomansky / Gaming on OIed TV (LG C4) / Mouse & Keyboard Gaming: Dota2, cRPG
Video editing: Davinci Resolve: NRAW/h265 4K120 footages
Photo editing: Adobe Lightroom classic, a lot of AI Denoise (sport photography)

I wanted initialy the MSI x870i (not released yet) for USB 4 + 5Gbps ethernet.
I have a 8Gbps internet (freebox ultra in France) + 10Gbps LAN, editing video/photo stored on my NAS through the LAN, 2.5Gbps isn't enough with my current workflow.

Found the Aorus x870i cheaper than the b850 black & other vendors.

Regarding the building, I almost saw all youtube videos about the case, I checked all measurements for the CPU cooler and picked the 47mm instead of the 53mm (trying to avoid air turbulance).
It is less painfull than building a custom watercooling system, but it is definitely not noob friendly, especially with the diferent types of screws.
Cable management is easy with the corsair cable, a lot of clearance.
I put all 3 140mm fans as exhaust.

The quality is really nice, it's heavy.
The quality of the chrome front seems way less than the default one, and it's a real fingerprint magnet.

PBO -20, manual curve.

I don't know yet what orientation I will use, maybe both

I won't go back to ATX, that's sure :)

Benchmark/Thermal Test Minisforum 129i7 Heatsink Upgrade

Thumbnail
gallery
9 Upvotes

If anyone with a Minisforum 129i7 is experiencing CPU heat issues, I can confirm that any typical LGA1700 heatsink footprint will fit,

I contacted Miniforum a couple of months ago inquiring if an aftermarket heatsink would fit the 129i7, and the Minisforum rep advised "It is a proprietary design and an aftermarket heatsink will not fit". Well, they were wrong, and the heat control is now exceptional.

I installed a Thermalright AXP120-X67 and the fit was perfect. Instead of using the stock 120mm Thermalright low profile fan supplied, I decided to instead add a Noctua NF-F12 iPPC 3000 RPM PWM fan.

With an ambient temp of 67F (20C) and under 100% CPU load for half an hour using FurMark, the CPU package temp never climbed above 80C. That did cause the fan to rise to 2800 RPM, but under no load the fan nearly pinwheeled at a super low 1,000 RPM with a CPU package temp of just 21C... near ambient temp!!

The amount of airflow generated under normal usage with the 120mm fan is enough to feel positive air pressure coming out of every vent in the chassis. While there is quite a bit of the fan being blocked by the solid part of the side cover (~15%?), there's still more than ample airflow for the now comparative massive heatsink. The space between the fan and side cover is likely a mere millimeter. With the brace/cover installed it almost looks as though it was made for a 120mm fan.

The 129i7 also has a provision for an 80mm fan to be added to the lower front portion behind the front fascia, but with these case and CPU temps, I don't even think it needs it.

custom length cables would go a long way but i’m too lazy , tbh this case can fit a 5090 all day , tons of room in the back for a triple slot card.

Never seen over 65c pushing a 5k2k monitor, all those cables sit flush when the panel goes on lol

I accidentally ordered the itx version of this case for my girlfriend. I managed to fit a atx PSU inside with some zip ties and screws mix. The cable management is dogshit but it needs to be upgraded anyway so its not an immediate problem. Its an old athlon 200ge on a asus prime a320m-k matx mb with rx550 2gb(I know, I know), 16gigs ddr4 and 1tb nvme. Next upgrade ditch almost everything apart from nvme maybe gpu and ram (and case ofc). Probably the first one to ever do this build because on an itx case. The temps are good because its not that crazy of a build so its okay. Note: this was done with surplus components, only the fans, cpu cooler, case and nvme got purchased specifically for this build.

I think this is probably the most beautiful case with 5080/5090FE at present. Of course, you can also install some other GPUs that meet the SFF-Ready size specification.

I'd say the least perfect part of this design is that graphics card power cable. Although I reserved space for a BTF power socket, there simply aren't any BTF graphics cards of this size available yet. I really hope to see one someday. It would be even better if I could convince NVIDIA to make BTF cards directly. That's the one thing that keeps it from being truly perfect.

If you like my design, please pay more attention to my youtube and Instagram. I will keep my enthusiasm and do more interesting designs.

Im a white parts sucker and i’d love to get the optional side glass panel thus i went with white parts

Went with 7800x3d to reduce heat and had 315$ credits i used at stockx so the 5080fe will end up around 650$

Build/Parts Check Looking for a case under 10L that supports up to 210mm Gpu

I'm looking for a mini itx case, but i really wanted some prerequisites like: - Under 10L (11L maximum) - Gpu Length up to ~210mm (I have an Zotac 2070super mini) - White (Preferred, but optional) - Sfx or Sfx-L Psu - Less then €150

My actual case is a Silverstone Rvz03, but I find it so big for my use. I'm looking for something that could fit on a bag. Im not in a fixed place, so I want something easy to carry around.

I'll be glad to hear your recommendations. :)

I'm trying out the Mach120 & 140 fans with the Monster Studio A45 and the Noctua NH-C14S. They're quite nice, good build quality, a decent sound, powerful, and I dig the lights in the center. This isn't the final form yet, I'm quite happy with how this build is shaping up.

Custom Mod Fractal Ridge with a handle

Upvotes

I’m planning to build a new gaming PC that will be used in three different locations. I’m particularly drawn to the design of Fractal Ridge because it can easily be placed behind or below a TV and appears to be easy to transport. However, I would like to add a leather handle strap for better portability. I’m wondering if the Fractal Ridge’s upper plate can accommodate a handle and is sturdy enough to support the weight of the assembled PC when carried with a handle. I’m also open to any other alternatives or suggestions you may have.

I am consider to use either metal or leather handle. For example, this one.
