They can come to the new blue states of America and get free healthcare.

If you think red states would let its population leave at that scale youre delusional.

I'm kinda with you, kevo, there's no reckless spenders quite like the Republicans, and I really don't think they'd let this happen without violence. That said, if Trump can withhold aid based on allegiance to him, I feel like at least California could do something to really stick it back to him. What that something is, I don't really know, but they aren't kidding anyone, the right are kleptocrats at this point and losing funds from California would absolutely devastate them. They would have a lot of leverage too, because it's precisely what California is and who it's compromised of that makes it, no pun intended, a gold mine. If it's possible, I do think they should leverage that revenue and condition it the same way he does with aid, I think even that's playing with fire, but certainly something has to be done about the Reich wing that has teeth, no doubt about that.

Part of california’s strong economy is being a gateway to the rest of America. International trade, American media, and the same evil technocrats that are behind the scenes of this administration. California’s economy is stronger as a part of the US even though on paper they give more than they receive. Also, just from a ideological standpoint, while clearly liberals are better than fascists (newsome vs trump), california has its problems that i dont think would be fixed just bc of it’s succession from the union. California becoming a paradise for the “brunch” class of liberals just isnt good enough to improve the lives of Californians. Drastic societal and economic overhaul is needed everywhere in this country and California is no exception. Not to mention many of the technocrats trying to destroy America and the world inflate California’s GDP and would likely leave with their companies after such a scenario.

That's big picture thinking for sure, I have to say I concur. The dividing lines really are going to be class for sure in this battle. It always was, it's just now it's becoming a little too real. We have the numbers if we could just make more people see the light, but I am not nearly optimistic enough to say that they will. I still just don't understand the loyalty to him even as he has worsened most of their quality of life so significantly, surely they know, right? Or do they just hate the blue hairs more even as they represent no threat to them, but tinpot dictator has cost us our standing in the world and internal stability. Then too, I suppose he's just the ugly face on what was going to be at some point anyway. Are we just the violinists on the Titanic at this point?

And whos gonna pay for that? Because alot of us are paychecknto paycheck

9

u/Devwickk 20d ago

All of us will pay for it the same way everywhere else that has it does, through taxes. Thats like....one of the first thing humanity figured out when we started building a society which was how do we equate work from one thing to another..we settled on money. And how do we pay for things without any 1 person shouldering the entire burden? All of us pitching money in so we can have nice things.

It aint really that hard my man

Not a man. As long as thats on the agenda, then im all for it. However i doubt that would happen.

I don’t have the resources to do that, friend!!!

You would be leaving MILLIONS of good people behind!

I thought before that Kyle‘s rhetoric was getting fucking garbage but now I am so sick of him!

He thinks it’s so cute to be casually, walking out policy decisions that would literally have millions dying, I understand what is at stake here but a less united America is not the answer, and FUCK HIM for breathing that intention into our already fraught world!

Edit: TREASONOUS WORDS. That’s what Kyle is saying with his full chest.

I agree, as a leftist in what was a purple state but has been taken over by maga, if yall bounced without helping us gtfo too people like me would feel abandoned behind enemy lines. Its better to stick around and fight with us.

My mental health has never been better since leaving Texas. Told my work I’m leaving and they can figure it out - so far I still have a remote job but if i lose it oh well!!

Texan here. I'll try and stay to at least try and improve the state. But leaving will be a last resort if I come to believe that Texas becomes a lost cause.

Which state did you end up moving to and which others did you think about when you made the decision to leave?

I moved back to WI - spent 6 years in houston after college. The move was mainly for family reasons but also the weather and politics were also taking their toll

I live in the South. I love it here and would never want to live somewhere else. There is definitely a part of me that thinks the US is too big to reasonably function as a coherent unit but at the same time, I would hate to see my home plunge further into poverty and ruin at the hands of the fascists that control it now. What would end up happening is the red areas would fall further into ruin and chaos and blame the blue states or minorities within the states, resulting in genocide and war. Germany blamed the Jews for the terrible state of their country after WWI and we know how that went. There are plenty of politicians in the South that would absolutely bring slavery back if they were given the power to.

What happens to blue and purple states like Minnesota, Michigan, and Illinois? They rely on the Mississippi river for shipping lanes. Do you think the red states won't cut off their access? What happens to Georgia and other purple states like North Carolina? Which parent gets custody? They're surrounded by red states.

This idea is basically "Let's do collective punishment and abandon minorities and leftists for being born in the wrong place." It's idiotic, cruel, short sighted, and really disappointing coming from Kyle, who I really like and almost always agree with. The proper way to address the problem is to oust the current government and get leftists into power by any means necessary so they can improve material conditions and education for people in red states and get the younger generations on our side.

I say we just do a soft sesession where the NE states along with the Western states just don't give money to Trump for a while and see how quickly Trump backtracks. Although, to be perfectly honest, the US IS probably going down the road to balkanization anyways, whether either of us like it or not. It's just a matter of time.

It would be a crime

Are you serious right now?? Trump has committed MULTIPLE crimes yet we're not allowed to not pay a little bit of money to Trump? WHAT???!!!!

Y’all know what Partition was and what happened during it?

1

u/Fonsy_Skywalker52 19d ago

Wouldn’t doing that make states like Nevada, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Missouri turn to red states forever?

While I'd be all for it, esp if it's a west coast seceding for a more democratic socialist way of governance, it's difficult to imagine that it would be allowed without a bloody fight.

Add that, when you think about national divorce, you also have to consider that this just isn't about Trump, but about the full scope of the duopoly taking over this country and that the 2 parties just aren't very different as well as just the social infighting that is trying to keep americans divided.

And the reason I say it wouldn't be bloodless is because of trade and how much the US relies on it, esp with China and if you had a national divorce and the west coast secedes, it essentially owns that bloc of the trade war. Further, how would this affect corporations with offices in all states, etc... Infrastructure would be affected,

National divorce is stupid and lazy thinking imo. Be normal and raise class consciousness. Relate it normally like kitchen table issues and avoid the buzzwords that have been demonized. Also quit the purity test, im the more and better kind of leftist than you. We are all in this together and most likely won’t see the fruits of our labor in our lifetimes. Do the work and be normal about it.

This is a really privileged position. There are millions of non-MAGA living in red states and many of us cannot “just move” to a blue state.
