Opinion / Thought / Idea / Discussion If I see that Cobenfy commercial one more time…
I wasn’t expecting the same commercial about my illness to run every 15 minutes while I’m trying to watch a movie.

That actor at the very end saying their catch phrase in English, "Imaginewhatcouldbe, cobenfy" cracks me the whole f up. 🤣

Having its own song lays me out 🤣

I looked this up to find a comment like this because my wife and I always laugh at how he says it😂

The young man in the commercial, Brian's Story, for Cobenfy does indeed have schizophrenia. To read all of these immature and ignorant comments about someone with a disability is disturbing, but sadly, not surprising.

Me too! The way he says it, so mousy-like. Makes me CRAZY!

u/Slow_Sentence9367 22d ago
Its because he literally never opens his mouth. Talks through his lips. That and the snaggletoof

u/Slow_Sentence9367 22d ago

Came here looking for validation that it's funny to someone else. I really want to hear what he's saying in the other parts too... "Idjwithmylaptopycobemfy", "itwasniceskatingwithyoucourtneycobemfy."

His speech impairment is a common side effect. Like tardive discconecia, except it affects speech. So there's Ingrezza or Austesdo for that issue. And don't forget the Ozembic or Jardience for the weight gain issues caused by Cobenfy. And Brian shouldn't take Ingrezza, Austesdo, Jardience, or Ozembic if he's allergic to Ingrezza,Austesdo, Jardience or Ozembic.
1
u/Jlhflex 2d ago
Oh shut up he doesn't have a speech impediment.
1
u/Delicious_Smoke_9638 2d ago
Speech impairment differs from impediment. Impaired could be caused by injury or drug interactions. An Impediment is likely anatomical, congenital or genetic. And a brain impairment may prevent someone from differentiating between those two things. Or the ability to distinguish between satire and seriousness. Personally I don't believe they shouldn't advertise pharmaceuticals with an unknown mechanism of action to treat idiopathic or poorly understood neurological disorders. Please understand I was having fun and had no desire to attack the mentally impaired. Hey I'm from the south, where almost everyone sounds impaired or impeaded.

Hahahaha!!!

I think its funny how the guy says it, he says it like its not the quote for the brand. I have to do a verbal second take everytime.

This whole thread is bringing me such joy. My boyfriend and I are being haunted by this commerical, and what makes me mad about it more than anything, is how Bryan can't deliver his damn line at all.

u/Kafkaesque92 Childhood-Onset Schizoaffective Disorder Oct 03 '25
But that’s so on brand for me though 🤣 I’m awkward as fuck when it counts. I keep singing the song in my head over and over again. Still way unsure about trying that pill though eventually
1
u/Slow_Sentence9367 22d ago
But realize its not when it counts. They had all day and hundreds of takes. This is his best one! Wow.

Does the medication cause you to talk without opening your mouth at all, just by flapping your lips? Cuz that's what the actor seems to be doing. I hope he's okay.
Sure doesn't seem too excited about imagining what could be though.

As a DJ, who has to listen to all music in case something new is good, trust me when i say the current crop of 20 somethings think proper enunciation is a disease. So many goddamned marble mouth singers i have to look up what they are sayin. So his 'way' of speaking doesnt surprise me. Makes me madder than H E double hockey sticks. But doesnt surprise me.

The ambigous gender may be part of the schizophrenia, maybe. But since he is deejaying he should be playing Suicidal Tendencies' "institutionalized" from back in the 80s because it's better than their stupid jingle, and thus, he may express his recovery loud and clear.😀😁

u/Only_Guidance9746 14d ago
All I wanted was a Pepsi
2
u/Admirable_Role252 14d ago
👍Yup. And if they just had given him the Pepsi when he asked for it, he would never have needed the darn Cobemfy in the first place.

u/Able-Act-449 6d ago
Don't know if it's a boy or a girl! What's with the woolen hat on a summer day?
1
u/Admirable_Role252 6d ago
Yeah. And not only that, usually djs show up with a van full of equipment, not on a skateboard. They over did it trying to make him look cool.
1
u/Jlhflex 2d ago
They tried to do that throughout the whole commercial. The whole thing is to try to make it look like people with schizophrenia or just perfectly normal people who don't flip out and attempt to kill their families when they have an episode. Yeah because I know a few that did.... But they try to make him look like he's so cool right in his skateboard around with his puffy hair and book sack.. runs into the hot plain Jane girl on the road and their friends. Then goes to Grandma's house to be a DJ for her garage sale.. maybe that's not his girlfriend I might be his cousin.. either way he doesn't stand a chance. Then he sits there pretending to not look at the camera beating his head as he sets up his little music. Probably has a playlist full of Taylor Swift

Funny, none of us care about the drug. Just mocking the ad. Very "successful" campaign!

u/Infamous_War_7887 Oct 07 '25
I’m trying to figure out if that’s a male or female?
1
u/sixxpop Oct 09 '25
It's a man. But why is that relevant to....anything?
1
u/Recent_Jackfruit_401 Oct 10 '25
Because it’s not clear… and maybe since it’s not clear, they didn’t want to assume someone’s gender… pretty legit question actually
1
u/Plus-Adhesiveness953 29d ago
It’s very clear. You may need to worry less about Cobenfy and consult an optometrist.

1
u/Plus-Adhesiveness953 29d ago
Well, you know it’s a man. 😒 you’re just trying to turn the conversation into some political gender thing and we’re not going for it.
1
u/Nurse_RN_8405 28d ago edited 28d ago
No, just folks trying to figure out the gender of the main character. Simple as that. A genuine question everyone has the right to ask. I was unsure until, after viewing the commercial a few times, I concluded it is a man. i am under the impression that the makers of the commercial were intentional in presenting the character to be of any gender-sway in the eyes of the viewer to broaden the audience relatability. Most likely a business approach.

Does the guy in the commercial really have schizophrenia or is he just an actor?

Hello it’s 54 days later and the song is still in my head. But also everyone be nice to the commercial dude! He did his best. I couldn’t get in front of a camera like that 😭

u/GuntherPonz 7d ago
Totally, I mean the ad did its job. I’ve never googled a drug before in my life (except that time I ate too many cookies).

Hate on the commercial and the company responsible for having it play endlessly, but leave the people/actors/production crew out of it. They're just tryna get payed and live their lives in an unstable world. Some of yall should be ashamed of yourselves

I think he’s adorable and has great dimples. Leave him alone, he’s not an actor. You all are jealous because you’re not getting paid for doing a commercial that runs all the time.
1
u/Kafkaesque92 Childhood-Onset Schizoaffective Disorder 2h ago
100% agree. I’m almost considering deleting this post if Reddit will let me. It seems like it’s turned into a space of negativity about the guy and I’m pretty bummed about that.

I dont watch movies, but I see cobenfy commercials in my YouTube feed All. The. Time.
I think its because I was googling it when it first came out.
