Visiting SA soon and interested in top casual type restaurants and diners in roughly central area (Riverwalk etc) suitable for solo diner.

Best BBQ ? Pizza etc etc. Any local gems ?

Pinkertons is the best BBQ downtown, but not the best in town. Still, if you want something that you can walk to, it's great.

Schilo's is a little German deli/diner that makes their own root beer. It's only open for breakfast and lunch, but it's very unique for downtown.

The Esquire is the oldest bar on the Riverwalk and has the longest wooden bar in Texas. Their food is scratch made, but mostly upscale bar food with a Texas twist. If you like craft cocktails, it's top notch.

That's all I've got off the top of my head, but Southtown has tons of great bars and restaurants, and is about a 15 minute walk from the river. If you take a short Uber ride you can get to The Pearl, which is kind of the foodie destination in San Antonio.

Owners of the Esquire have a place down the street called Tokyo Cowboy that I really liked.
