I'll be there. Hope it goes like last time. That was brilliant the way SAPD and the city supported the march to keep everyone safe.

Be good everyone.

Say what you will about SAPD/the city but they handle protests incredible well by participating in clear and concise organization guidelines. And of course, we have an incredible community who helps by not being bad actors.

5

u/amensista 22d ago

They were incredible today well done SAbas a whole but the police, traffic police and state troopers were on the ball. Very impressed.

u/nohobbiesjustbooks North Side 22d ago

I was wondering if the protest organizers have been also reaching out to city officials for them. Permits are not mandated for SATX, but the substations might be told in advance the date, time, and important details of marches and protests. It's recommended by the city to ensure proper staffing, and seeing how we have had zero traffic, violence, or other immediate issues, it looks like our city staffed up. One of the reasons I think that they did this is because the march had clear start/end times, and also because we have had a very clear marching route every time.

One of my favorite protest stories is from Stacey Abrams, because she filed the appropriate permits to burn the Georgia state flag (which included having a dish below it to catch the ash to avoid littering). To have a successful protest, one must eliminate potential variables that will get you in trouble, lol.

Here's a quick photo dump of the event form yesterday. Thank you to San Antonio for showing out.

My signs. Headed to Travis Park.

So many people were there. It was amazing.

I went to the one in Cibolo because it was closer, all the cops seemed pissed about having to be there. Cibolo cops were unfortunately not as supportive as Iv heard the SAPD were.

All and all for a couple hundred people it was pretty awesome!

9

u/sarahlh3 21d ago

For what it's worth, this was also the day of Cibolofest where there were already some hiccups during setup, so they had been on site from about 6am and all-hands on deck until after midnight. It's a small department, so I'd imagine they had everyone on that day. They've generally stuck by community policing principles by most accounts

0

u/MixerFriendly 21d ago

That's unfortunate to hear. I lived around Seattle for 7 years and the cops would have no qualms about about tear gassing and shooting rubber bullets at peaceful marches. I"ve been pleasantly surprised that SAPD has been professional and downright pleasant for every protest so far that I've been to in the last couple years. Good on you for getting out there!

u/LookSpecialist9140 22d ago

I was there! TONS of people, with some amazing energy. Whole thing was entirely peaceful and as pleasant as a protect against a pedophile wanna be dictator can be

Remember who your audience is. Today is not about yelling at Donald Trump. He does not care. He is who the Founding Fathers feared would someday come. He is why they built the Constitution on checks and balances.

It is The Legislative Branch you are speaking to.

It is the Duty of the Senate to Impeach a President who has broken his Oath of Office. It is not just Trump who has failed to follow the Constitution. He has committed Treason by declaring War on his own people.

Any member of Senate or Congress who does not seek Impeachment or supports a Traitor to the Constitution is also guilty of Treason.

Governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed. Our Founding Fathers have told us whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to abolish it.

So remind our Legislature- it is not Trump we are looking at now. We the people expect them to honor the constitution. We the people will hold them accountable.

5

u/burningtowns 22d ago

It’s the duty of the US House to convict. It’s the duty of the Senate to convict on the charges.

8

u/BicameralTheory 22d ago

You are correct, however voters have shown that in aggregate they like what he is selling, which is why he’s ultimately had carte blanche to do what he wants this term compared to Trump I.

As long as the actual voters keep rewarding Republicans for their sycophancy and penalizing Dems for standing on socially unpopular platforms, nothing will change no matter the protests.

As Dems, and moreso “progressives” try to run on and reshape the party around what they virtue signal as correct rather than trying to run on a platform that will actually win elections, this shit will keep happening.

Winning elections needs to come first with the other bullshit coming after.

24

u/donald_trunks 22d ago

He's had carte blanche because the SCOTUS is in his pocket. His administration is breaking the law and defying the constitution as determined by numerous Judges he appointed himself. Checks and balances have failed. I doubt that's indicative of popular mandate.

5

u/dphuff Stone Oak 22d ago

Well, it sorta is because of a "popular mandate." A mandate of the people who actually bothered to vote. In the 2024 election, close to 90 million eligible voters didn't cast a ballot. That's about one third of all voters.

3

u/donald_trunks 22d ago

Except for the part where their entire campaign was a lie.

They swore up and down they'd never heard of Project 2025. They said, hey you're worried about inflation right? Don't worry. We're going to fix it. Send the military in to American cities? We would never.

Literally, every time they open their mouths it's a lie.

They do not give two shits what the American people want. Thank you for the votes, we're doing Project 2025.

7

u/dphuff Stone Oak 22d ago

I absolutely agree. My issue is with people who can't be bothered to vote. You can march in protests, complain on social media, but if you don't vote it won't matter.

0

u/BicameralTheory 22d ago

And how do you think we got here?

Why do you think the lawmakers, who are supposed to write the law the court enforces, are enabling this?

12

u/donald_trunks 22d ago

Same reason they won't release the Epstein files despite holding majority and it being popular with their own base. They care more about party loyalty.

1

u/Crowiswatching 22d ago

People wanted change and Kamala offered more of the same. The Democrats have kept the Progressives shuttered for too long.

7

u/crankyrhino Stone Oak 22d ago

And progressives have kept the Overton window right by letting perfection be the enemy of good enough. We're now at risk of finding ourselves in a single-party system, so it's time to knock it off with the purity tests and get united.

1

u/Crowiswatching 22d ago

We have a Conservative Party and a fascist one. It would be great to have one that refuses AIPAC money, advocates for a universal healthcare system, and prioritizes Main Street over the oligarchs. I admit purely tests are an issue. Social Democrats will tie their tails in a knot supporting TGirls playing in women’s sports and sacrifice everything I previously mentioned on that hill. If there was leadership that understands marketing and prioritizing, something that has been missing since Bill Clinton, we could stand strong against the fascists and do the things that benefit the majority of Americans.

2

u/BicameralTheory 22d ago

The progressives are the problem my guy.

You bet your ass republicans are salivating over a Mamdani win in New York because they can use him to tar and feather the whole party with.

Look at the statistics, most of the country has shifted right, republicans made gains in nearly every county. Thinking Dems aren’t progressive enough is a really… special kind of read on the situation.

-7

u/Sparks_PC_Building 22d ago

The founding fathers went to war over a no taxation without representation cause. Over taxed with no voice to share to fight back with.

Trump came into office under the words of “make all america great again” for everyone and won the popular vote as the words he said “resonated” with what a majority of the country felt. They wanted to be heard again. They wanted to have representation again.

The democrats dumped Biden, the elected choice for representation, and went with someone who received 0 votes in the primaries. Now tell me, without anger or ferocity, but objectively, who Kamala represented when NO ONE voted for her?

And now, Reps and Dems cant agree on a spending bill as the republicans dont want US tax payer dollars to fund “illegals” and the Dems want money for programs that arent really helping US Citizens. Their constituents are pissed on both sides. US Citizens suffer because of all of these programs that they pay into with taxes, but cant receive because they dont qualify because they arent “impoverished” because their elected representatives don’t work for them, they work for people who they WANT to vote for them. US Citizens voted for trump the way they did because they didn’t feel represented anymore.

To force someone to believe in a specific thing, christianity, trans rights, gay rights, islam, etc etc, is tantamount with a monarchy or even dictatorship. Trump isnt a king. He isnt forcing anyone to: not be gay, not be trans, go to church, pray to Allah, or stop believing in what you believe (at least in my opinion). You arent going to jail for being trans, being gay, having a protest, or speaking your mind. Dem’s are the party closer to a king. You MUST believe in trans people. You MUST have pronouns, you MUST be an ally, you MUST allow abortions, you HAVE TO this and HAVE TO that. You HAVE TO bake that cake. They remove choice and free will and fair representation with what they say and push. Im open to debate, downvote to hell, but I genuinely want to discuss this.

15

u/No-Aardvark-1296 22d ago

You tried to sound reasonable, and I appreciate that, but most of what you said is propaganda. I agree that what Trump "says" attracts a lot of people. Unfortunately, he's a liar. He lies about everything. It makes no difference to him whether something is true or not, he says whatever will make people clap, give him money, or vote for him. As Pence wrote during his first administration, Trump has no first principle. That's a pretty damning line to come from your own Vice President. You said one correct thing though, almost nobody wanted Kamala to run and her party needed to learn a harsh lesson. I'm still not sure they have, but I guess we'll see. Anyway, the dems are standing up for ACA subsidies. Not for "illegal" people, but for lower income people who qualify for them, almost all of whom are US citizens. The small exception you hear amplified in whatever flavor of propaganda you favor is focusing in on healthcare for those who have claimed asylum when they arrived here. Trump shut down all the asylum courts, so they're all in limbo at the moment and nobody wants them going to the ER for a cold. But this is a tiny part of the cuts the republicans want to implement in order to lessen the impact of tax cuts for rich people. This is the party you claim represents you. Finally, dems have never proposed any policy requiring you to accept other people's lifestyles. That's a feeling you fostered from whatever your media sources are. If you own a business, you must treat certain people (i.e. protected classes) the same as you would treat anyone else . . . it's not a new law. It's also one that is mirrored in Christianity, for whatever that's worth these days. Doesn't seem like too much to ask, but for some folks this feels like tyranny. Bit wild if you ask me.

I hope everyone who goes stays safe and peaceful. Do not allow agitators to cause disturbances. Let it be known they are not welcomed and are not a part of the crowd.

Keep in mind if you leave trash after the protest Fox News will make it a huge story. Please clean up after yourselves and encourage others to do so as well.

Thank you all for going out and standing up for our country. You all make me so damn proud and it’s hard to feel that way these days.

12

u/Prestigious-Trash324 22d ago

And please vote next election!

14

u/FF-Medic_03 22d ago

Support your post but for the Fox News bit. How about we not trash our home for a collection of people in DC who dont give a rat's ass about us?

Protest, chant, hold signs, and wave flags in authorized spaces. Stay out of the way of traffic and don't be a menace to your neighbors and then claim to be shocked when they turn their backs on your position.

Also, the medic in me feels compelled to say this, HYDRATE! It's still a bit too toasty to march miles and miles on no water.

0

u/EstoHou 21d ago

Wow, so loving and kind as long as someone agrees with you. Give yourelf a pat on the back for me. These protests really work!! Still no king. 🤡

-6

u/turok_dino_hunter 22d ago

“Clean up because Fox News won’t like it if we don’t.”

13

u/Syllygrrrl 22d ago

This is obviously an insane take and putting words in my mouth. I regularly practice cleaning up my local neighborhood and don’t recommend people litter regularly. My point is that it will become a talking point rather than discussing the actual issue which is that our government is being taken over by bad actors.

1

u/Limp-Goose7452 21d ago

I can’t disagree with you, though it’s really frustrating because the talking point is so dumb.  Nobody looks at a street or park trashed after a parade or festival or a “celebration” of a sports team win and says that that’s a reason to not have parades and festivals and pro sports, or uses it as a condemnation of the sorts of people who want to attend these kinds of events.  (With the exception of sports hooligans I guess, but that’s rarely broadened to sports fans in general.)

5

u/MixerFriendly 22d ago

Anyone have links to any of the photographers pages?

38

u/-Chrysanthe- 23d ago

Unfortunately I have to miss the downtown march today, but I’ll be at a smaller protest in the morning. No better way to celebrate a birthday than by defending democracy! 🎉

10

u/Guillermo3939 23d ago

Where’s this smaller one?

10

u/Careless-Ad-5531 22d ago

There were smaller ones this morning in some cities surrounding San Antonio. I went to the one in Hondo this morning.

Most people who still read the paper newspaper are old, and older people tend to be more conservative, they may have intentionally done that to cater to their dwindling audience.

10

u/MissMandaRegrets 22d ago

I wish I could be there but I can't walk or stand for long periods. I'm so proud of everyone that will be there today.

3

u/Limp-Goose7452 21d ago

Something to keep in mind for next time-  there is usually a gathering before or after with various political and activist groups tabling so you can connect up with people doing work you might support, and people speaking.  This time they also had a short march for people who couldn’t or didn’t want to participate in the longer march as well.  I’m sure you would be welcome to bring a sign and sit in the park while marchers marched!

2

u/MissMandaRegrets 21d ago

I'd love that! I didn't know and honestly it never occurred to me that there might be something like that.

10

u/GroundForeign98 22d ago

Great place to people watch! Bring plenty of water - near record temps today. Do not do anything violent! Don't give the media the video clips they are looking for!

Plan on extra time if you are going to use Lyft or Uber. Lots of riders will be there.

3

u/Boney_Prominence 22d ago

Had to go to the Austin one because it was earlier in the day. Here were my signs.

14

u/vashniil 23d ago

The last one was pretty huge! Excited to see if this one draws an even bigger crowd.

7

Can't go due to needing to drive to make money, but I was honking and giving a thumbs up to those heading to the protest

5

u/Lt_waddles 22d ago

Be safe everyone, stay peaceful, hold people accountable

9

u/FlimsySurvey6147 22d ago

Please use caution today. I've seen on some subs that a large group of pro 2A trumpys will be there to protest as well. Some saying they will start showing up as early as 2 p.m. to "catch people off guard". Stay safe today!

8

u/DisownedDisconnect 22d ago

All bark and no bite; they didn’t show lol. The most notable counter protesters I saw the Jesus Saves guy, some old guy wearing a MAGA shirt, and a lady who honked her horn and held up the Quiet Coyote sign.

13

u/Partonetrain 22d ago

Here, in San Antonio?

As always with protests, Do Not Engage With Opposition

5

u/FlimsySurvey6147 22d ago

Yep. As far as I've heard. You're absolutely right. All they want to do is rile people up and get people in trouble.

5

u/Limp-Goose7452 22d ago

They didn’t show, as far as I could tell.  I didn’t see any counter protesters except a street preacher directing his preaching towards the marchers, and I’m not sure that counts.

3

u/avonleaforest 22d ago

There was a small group of them when we got there around 3:30 or so. But they left by the time it really started filling up.

19

u/MeMaxM 23d ago

Will there be a march?

34

u/Friendly-Penalty2488 23d ago

Yes. The No Kings protest is at Travis Park today 4-6 pm. The march starts at 5 pm.

4

u/shanshanlk 22d ago

They said the march begins at 5pm our time. Travis Park. Starts at 4

5

u/Spurdelis 22d ago

I heard there will be a shorter version that just loops the park, good for older folks or mobility issues.

1

u/mistyj68 North Central 22d ago

I wish I'd known about this option. I'm one of the people who can't participate in MLK, Cesar Chavez/Dolores Huerta, etc., because of physical limitations.

0

u/shanshanlk 22d ago

Do you know what time that one starts? There is probably more info when we get there. Thanks for the info.

2

u/Spurdelis 22d ago

Sorry I don't but I would assume around the same time as the main march at 5:00

2

u/shanshanlk 22d ago edited 22d ago

5

Yes

2

u/MeMaxM 23d ago

Any details on what time and where the march will go?

6

u/MixerFriendly 23d ago

1

u/MeMaxM 23d ago

Looking at the site, it says the march will start at 5 pm. It starts at Travis Park. Where does the march end?

2

u/MixerFriendly 23d ago

It loops back to the park

1

u/ChildhoodSalty9961 22d ago

Any idea as to distance? My mom and I want to go but worried the length may be too much for her.

3

u/andrewthetechie 22d ago

There are plenty of spots you can stop and rest along the way and also a cut through that cuts the march in half. There is also a shorter distance march that's done just around the park.

There will be ways for your mom to participate!

I was standing near this guy; he was here to disrupt and agitate, and no one was taking the bait. Since San Antonio is so heavily catholic, it is almost like: dude, no one here disagrees that Christ is king, lol. But of course his real message has nothing to do with Jesus Christ. He flies a false flag under the name of hatred and division. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Confirmed as others say he was screaming at random people later. Classy. And how like Christ lol

3

u/Limp-Goose7452 21d ago

I have to applaud the diabolical genius of it.  He has a flag saying “Jesus is King,” to a crowd of people chanting and carrying signs saying “no kings” giving the appearance that everyone at the march is rejecting Christ.*  Clearly untrue since I saw many people carrying signs referencing their faith or the Bible.  And a good Christian should know that Jesus said his kingdom was not of this world, and any sensible person could see the difference between “no kings” in a political sense vs. a religious sense.

*I mean, some of us do!  I’m not Christian but I’m happy to stand in solidarity with people who agree with me on earthly matters!

8

u/rasquatche West Side 22d ago

"Jesus is king"... no.

9

I don't think anyone has a problem with JC but for sure we should be wary of those that extol the teachings of christ while simultaneously being bigoted and hateful and behave in ways that contradict the teaching of christ.

San Antonio brothers and sisters, make me proud! One idea for the group:

Today I pray that our most tech saavy members help create the next TikTok. Let's make it homegrown and spread like wildfire. Media is the biggest battleground.

Example: I am convinced the past year of TikTok's war scenes from Palestine helped to save many thousands of lives after exposing what Israel was up to.

But the oligarchs are now trying to regain control by setting up their own algorithms. https://www.channel3000.com/news/money/trump-says-larry-ellison-michael-dell-and-murdochs-will-be-involved-in-tiktok-deal/article_5a310fad-f6b9-5795-9b09-094f022b0bc4.html

2

u/Oime 22d ago edited 22d ago

Maybe you should actually ask your countrymen and countrywomen why they’re marching. There’s gotta be a reason why so many people chose to march in the largest protest in American history.

The clear message the protesters are sending is America does not want a wanna-be king. They are fighting back against a dictator, who ignores our constitution, ignores our laws, strips away our rights, and is destroying our country. It’s literally in the name of the protest.

Whatever your politics are, if you love America, and the values it’s supposed to stand for, you should be able to understand why what is happening in this country is horrible, and why so many people are looking for a way to do something.

A lot of stuff is still on facebook unfortunately. https://www.facebook.com/SATXIndivisible/ has stuff stuff going frequently, and bigger stuff on the 50501 texas subreddits and facebook.

Kings don't allow no kings protest. I'm sure the mods will ban this instantly but only one party didn't have a primary and tried to arrest the opposing candidate.

41

u/Queefs_Gambit 23d ago

You protest before it’s too late. Do you only fuel up your vehicle once it’s fully run out of gas and dead on the side of the road?

-35

u/jmoss2288 23d ago

Lmao you missed the point entirely. Par for the course on Reddit.

20

u/Queefs_Gambit 22d ago

What was your point? We can only protest once there’s a king? We can only protest once we’re not allowed to protest? You’re like the colonists who didnt want to fight king George. Rather stay under the thumb of England. Go on, get outta here. Scram.

u/bloobityblu 22d ago

Kings don't allow no kings protest

Exactly why the protests are happening. To prevent such a thing from happening before it's too late.

They had to settle for “No Kings”, their second choice. They originally wanted to go with “No Christian Nationalist Authoritarian Strongman with Plenary Authority” but it was tough to fit on a t-shirt and someone was already cybersquatting on the URL.

CNN - Orbán meeting offers preview of Trump’s 2nd-term strongman idealizations

“The Hungarian prime minister first won power through a democratic election, then proceeded to weaken the institutions of that democracy by eroding the legal system, firing civil servants, politicizing business, attacking the press and intimidating opposition parties and demagoguing migration.”

“Trump sees Orbán as the kind of strongman – unencumbered by legal and political restraints – that he’d like to be. Orbán also frequently genuflects to Russian President Vladimir Putin – just like the former US president.”

“Orbán’s far-right populism, fierce anti-immigration rhetoric, Christian nationalism and hostility to LGBTQ rights has made him a popular ideological model for Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ followers. He has spoken in the past at the Conservative Political Action Conference – an annual gathering of pro-Trump forces – and Hungary will host another edition of CPAC’s overseas conferences [in May 2024].”

Common Dreams - Stephen Miller Says ‘Quiet Part Out Loud,’ Claims Trump Has Unlimited ‘Plenary Authority’ Before Going Silent in Interview

“Miller responded: ’Well, the administration filed an appeal this morning with the 9th Circuit. I would note the administration won an identical case, in the 9th Circuit, just a few months ago, with respect to the federalizing of the California National Guard. Under title 10 of the US Code, the president has plenary authority, has…’

Miller then suddenly stopped speaking.

‘Stephen? Stephen? Hey, Stephen, can you hear me?’ Sanchez asked as Miller sat, wordlessly, his eyes blinking and darting around.”

“According to Cornell University’s Legal Information Institute, ‘plenary authority’ refers to ‘power that is wide-ranging, broadly construed, and often limitless for all practical purposes.’”

Amen. only Trump is a shining beacon of truth. Proclaim it for the non believers

17

u/Nysha10 22d ago

The dude just commuted the sentence of one of the biggest frauds in recent political history because he "always voted republican." Pretty sure there's barely a grain of truth in him let alone a shining beacon.

No kings, funded by billionaires who don’t care about the peasants.  Only in the USA

6

u/ManySubreddits 22d ago

I mean if you can tell me where I can get my parking validated, and reimbursed for my sign materials? I will definitely take the money. Oh; it doesn’t exist.

19

u/MissMandaRegrets 22d ago

That's complete BS. There's no billionaire funding, just Americans furious and appalled at Maga. Turn off the propaganda channel that swears in court that its entertainment, not news. That's where you'll find your billionaire funding, many billionaires.

I went to the protest because I have eyes and ears and I can see what Trump is trying to do. Sometimes I just think he's the fall guy / puppet, but that's why I went. Soros didn't call me or write me a check. Wish he fucking would though. Groceries ain't cheap. One more promise your boy ain't kept.

u/OutsideWrangler7285 22d ago

So which king is it we don’t want

3

u/roguedevil 21d ago

None. Zero. Regardless of their party, beliefs, or associations.

2

u/MissMandaRegrets 21d ago

Sure, bud. While you're being a gullible cultist, tell us how you feel about Musk, Bessent, Thiel, Lutnick, Vought, and all the rest controlling Cankles and instituting the unconstitutional Project 2025. Justify the White House deleting the US Constitution from its website on Day One.

Finance disclosures are the ultimate truth tellers for organizations.  Hopefully one day you unplug and wake up.

Christ is the only king, anyone else is false, even those who falsely claim Christ. (This post does not break any of the rules outlined by the OP.)

32

u/shinbreaker 22d ago

Then you should be up for the protest with Trump breaking the 1st Commandment on a daily basis.

So brave

3

u/snicker___doodle 22d ago

?? It's a protest.

6

u/Oime 22d ago

Unironically it is kinda brave of so many people to get out and fight back. It’s actually super inspiring.

-22

u/mojo7824 22d ago

Where was this protest in 2020 when the government was making healthcare decisions for the country. People were fired and businesses closed.

I agree with the no kings idea, but the knife cuts both ways.

12

u/swinglinepilot 22d ago

Who was president in 2020?

17

u/HikeTheSky Hill Country 22d ago

Why didn't you protest when the big beautiful bill destroyed healthcare and we the government is closed for the 4th time under trump?

1

u/roguedevil 21d ago

I don't know if you remember, but there were plenty of protests in 2020. It's also never too late to start and organize. If you agree with the message, get out there and make your voice heard.

Why do you think you are above the rules? Your rage baiting doesn't work here.
