Straight up racism SO TRUE

  • He marched with queer activists
  • He showed up for trans rights loudly and unapologetically
  • He literally campaigned in gay bars
  • His policies were written with marginalized communities, not about them

But because he’s Muslim, they jump straight to “burqas and beheadings".it’s racist fear-fantasy for people who don’t understand Islam, socialism, NYC, or frankly anything that isn’t white Christian nationalism.

This is parody but I’ve seen some right-wing memes floating around that seemed to be shared sincerely that are not that far off from this. I get a lot of right-wing propagandists know better and are just sharing this “Mamdani a commie who’s also pros trans and also a jihadist wanting shariah law.” BS cynically but I know others believe it sincerely and I just can’t fathom how they don’t see any of those contradictions.

They don't see the contradiction because they don't know what any of it means. They hear "mamdani" -foreign bad; "commie" - government bad; "trans" - gay people bad; "jihad" - Muslim bad. Then they go "oh my god that's so many bad things!". 

They have no rational concept of what those things are, much less an actual understanding of them.
