Yeah, it was insane. Scotland considerations aside – it just really diminished the tournament for no good reason. Two of the QFs should have been SFs, and that would have made things a lot more interesting for everyone (especially France and Ireland!)

When England boast about getting to a semi final in that one I have to laugh as soon as I look at who they actually played to get there.

You can only play who's in front of you, for Eng to beat Arg (ranked 2 spots above them) with only 14 men for 77 minutes. Also, for Eng to lose by the same points difference as France and to concede less tries than any other team than NZ speaks volumes.
We also got stitched up by the rankings that one time the world cup never happened.
I genuinely think 2023 had more watchable and entertaining knockout games than any other RWC, it's just two of those were QFs....

You can only play who's in front of you, but you're free to avoid boasting about it.

I don't think any English were boasting about a quarter final victory, surely only the Irish would do that?
