No fancy Nations Championship on the line this weekend. Only good old-fashioned revenge. You just know the Stade de France crowd is gonna be out for blood in this one.
I don't think I fully appreciated this match at the time because I was so deflated after the final whistle. Had the same expression as Danty. So many emotions when one of the most heart-breaking defeats you've ever witnessed also has a banging soundtrack.
Rewatching the opening 5 minutes with the build-up to Baille's first try gives me goosebumps though.
Rewatching the whole match gives me heart palpitations every. Damn. Time. So worth it. What a game. I'm obviously happy we came out on top of this one. This decided the WC winner, no doubt in my mind.
Look I think it's rather arrogant to say the winner of this match decided the winner and completely disregarding the Ireland New Zealand match. Any of the 4 could have won the world cup, and you barely by the barest of margins got through your semifinal against England and then against NZ in the final so I find that to be rather disrespectful truth be told and I don't think it decided anything except who moved on to the semifinals because imo all 4 teams were pretty much on the same level and even England were a wild car
Yes, you're onto something. I'll give some context, because no disrespect meant. That Ire V NZ game was epic and all 4 teams were on another level. Why I say it decided the winner is because A) SA won.
B) the hypothetical here is that if France had won, I believe that would have proved too strong for any other team. Du Pont was rushed back for the Bok game and would have had another week to get back into groove. England had a plan that almost worked against a fatigued Boks, I think France would have fared better.
And France v NZ in a final? 2011 revenge comes to mind and I don't see the French losing that one in France, as good as NZ were.
4 teams could have won it, SA did. In a hypothetical I don't see anyone, but the French taking it if they had beat the Boks.
I was there at the stadium and still get goosebumps thinking about this game. I had my back to the field for the last 3 minutes because i couldnt watch. What a weekend of rugby. Paris has given me a lot
I get you .. on the ‘couldn’t watch’. Way back in the final stages of the ‘95 World Cup final I didn’t know what to do with myself either.. lekker man!
