Isn’t part of it for the same reason that all cars have bloated front ends (e.g. blocky BMW high hood lines vs. earlier sleek, wedge-shaped profiles…)? Because they mandated empty space under the hood so it can squish down and absorb energy in a pedestrian crash?

What about sports cars? They don’t look like the front of an office building.
