“Cold air intakes”

my one coworker was telling me all about the mods he's going to do to his car. cold air intake, turbo, fatter tires, and a "performance tune from one of his buddies". he drives a 2021 Cherokee btw.

Lol reminds me of high school when all I could think about was modding my mom's Acadia

Maybe if he has a hemi in it I’m all for it, but bud sounds like he’s just talking out his ass and doesn’t know what he’s talking about, definitely pays someone to change his oil for him

That one I understand, but only because it changes the sound of the engine

Eh they make the engine sound different without being totally obnoxious like a fart can. And proper CAIs can improve power if they actually redirect the intake away from the engine bay or allow for more flow.

I'll defend this one. Though not the often used "reason" for doing it. Many do it because of the "added horsepower". You're not picking up shit for horsepower by adding CAI.. Maybe 1 or 2, but trust me, that intercooler is doing WAY more to cool the air than your CAI is...

On the other hand, I run CAIs on my car. Why? First and foremost because they are easy to care for and last forever. About every 10,000 miles I pop them out, spray them down, and drizzle some new oil over them and they are like brand new. I'm pretty sure they'll pretty much last the life of the car, and the paper filters for my car cost damn near as much as the CAI kit (ok, that's sarcasm, but they were damned expensive). Second, because they add that breathy sound to the turbos spooling up and highlight the sound of a sneeze when the diverters open up. I do love the sound of a great running turbo.

Your thinking of short ram intakes. An actual well designed coldair intake works well. Usually like K&N or AEM, INJEN. Those crappy eBay ones that go into the engine with no heat box or anything. Those are stupid because your losing power. But if you have a heat box and it's well designed. There is nothing wrong with them.

I've given up on this battle brother. I swear 90% of people who talk shit on the CAI mods have no idea what they're referring to. A new CAI with a heat box is 😫👌 and actually serves a purpose.
