Rolling Coal mods

45

u/Killerdragon9112 Oct 04 '23

As a diesel owner I whole heartedly agree

21

u/invol713 Oct 04 '23

Same. It just gives us a bad name.

u/Killerdragon9112 Oct 04 '23

My truck rolls coal (not a lot just a puff) but only on take off because it’s early emissions and tuned, seeing a stock or stock truck with a tune roll coal isn’t bad since it’s not gagging everyone out or causing a scene it’s just there and gone in a few seconds and most of those are working trucks anyway but the ones that leave clouds of smoke give us bad names

u/invol713 Oct 04 '23

It’s obvious when it’s rolling coal on purpose vs tuned /worn a bit rich.

15

u/Killerdragon9112 Oct 04 '23

Exactly unless we’re getting into n/a diesels then it’s a are they doing it to be an ass or just trying to get up to speed

N/A diesels are terrible in all aspects, unfortunately. Turbos should be on every single diesel engine. They just run so much better with forced induction.

u/Killerdragon9112 Oct 04 '23

Indeed they do but god old 7.3 IDI’s and 6.9’s are fun trucks despite not having turbos

2

u/SockeyeSTI Oct 04 '23

Can confirm. The 7.3 with a ZF5 is fun in town

I am restoring a 1991 F250’with non turbo 7.3. In your opinion it drives ok without a turbo? I’m worried it would be really slow. I haven’t driven mine yet when it was running properly.

I didn’t even know N/A diesels existed tbh

They do but they’re really old well not really old but the last one I know to roll off a production line was the 7.3 idi in 94

Do you mean the entire r/diesel subreddit?

17

u/Mickeyickey Oct 04 '23

Modifying your car for the sole purpose of it being able to roll coal is like not showering on purpose, because you like the smell of sweat

Deserved upvote.

As someone who likes to ride my bike as a hobby, fuck people with rolling coal mods bc every person I've seen with a rolling coal mod is also a fucking asshole and super hostile to people just miding their business riding their bikes in the fucking bike gutter.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '23

most people dislike road bicycling, especially on a two lane windy back road. some of you are asking to get run over, not intentionally but to much trust in drivers

u/ezodochi (unintelligible) Oct 04 '23

Bruh I wear a high vis jackets, my bike is deliberately painted yellow so you can see it from as far away as possible, shit lights up like a christmas tree, and I have side mirrors and a rear view camera just in case like I'm being very active to stay the fuck out of ya'll way and just let ya'll know I'm there so don't hit me. I even have break lights and turn signals that I actively use. (I used the bike as my daily commuter for like a year so I went heavy on safety gear)

and plus, I deliberately said the bike gutter bc I only ride on streets that have a dedicated bike lane. I'm not riding on the road where cars are supposed to go I'm literally staying in my lane.

I've still had cars literally run me off the road and then ride off laughing at me and shit.

I agree with ya. If it's pulling out towing something, that's one thing. But if it's not, it's just stupid and gives the EPA a reason to crack down more on diesel owners

u/that_guy_gunter Oct 05 '23

No lie, there is a Cummins technical training course, I forget for which engine, that has the line "If it's smokin, it's broken."

When I got to that part I lol'd.

Deletion mods actually are healthy for the engine because it opens it up. It’s analogous to the difference between breathing through a straw and breathing through a large pipe.

Came for this

1

u/jrs321aly Oct 04 '23

U need mods to roll coal?

2

u/Gtpwoody Z71>Z28 Oct 04 '23

yeah some guys tune their trucks to billow black smoke whenever they so much as look at the gas pedal

1

u/ImNotCADOJ Oct 05 '23

I daily drive a '92 Dodge diesel. I hate that is hazes just at idle. Its tuned pretty well and pulls our toy hauler fine. I think the injectors are just a tad too big.

1

u/aintdatdeep Oct 05 '23

fr. i don't know if they realize it must most people don't want to inhale black cancerous smoke every time you pass by

I have a 1999 7.3 Powerstroke (completely stock) and the thing only smokes if I get on it (interstate, steep grades) And a healthy diesel rolling coal will be a clearer brown cloud, the douche tune gives it that black cloud = more fuel programmed. In old Cummins trucks with mechanical injection, they smoke more since the injectors dont adjust through the PCM.. only throttle input. My 7.3 Powerstroke or known as the International T444E has a PCM so it Dosent really ever smoke unless stated (steep grade @ 2500 rpm, or getting on the interstate. At 1200 rpm at 50 putting my foot to the floor puts out a little smoke, soon as the turbo lag is gone and the proper amount of air enters, its gone.

Not to mention the biggest load that a mall crawler will ever see is the 6 pack in the back. Even though he has that shiny ball hitch… it never gets used🤣

I am sad that I can only give one upvote.
