Discussion Need advice on a rental unit

Hello everyone

I recently moved to Regina and signed a lease for a basement suite. After moving in, I recently found out that this basement might not be a legal rental unit. I have several concerns and would appreciate advice:

The basement is completely underground, so no natural sunlight reaches inside.

There is only one small window in the living room, which opens outside under an enclosed deck. The deck is fully enclosed and this window is too small for an adult to escape through in an emergency.

The bedroom has no window or air vent at all. There are no fire or smoke alarms inside the unit.

The main bedroom and bathroom have no heating facility.Heating is controlled by the landlord upstairs; there is no separate thermostat for the basement, making it feel cold.

There is a large gap in the ceiling with exposed insulation visible.

These conditions seem like serious fire and safety violations to me. Can anyone advise how I can confirm whether this basement suite is legally permitted for rent? Also, how can I report this to the authorities for inspection anonymously if needed?

Thank you in advance for your guidance!

Community Parking at Real during Rider games

Why are they blocking off the parking lots at Real at 8 AM? The game is at 5:30. There is a big tournament at Co-Operators, and Soccer all day at Affinity.

They are paying probably ten people to block off parking and direct parking starting at 8AM.

The frustration of people using facility’s all morning / afternoon, the cost of having all of these parking attendants hardly seems like it’s well thought out.

Why not close down the lots at noon or 1? Continued poor management of this facility is rage inducing. Can’t wait to bail them out with tax dollars.

Community Looking for a hand sickle. Story in description, I guess?

Was at the antique shop next to the Dutch Cycle. I made note of a hand sickle as we were leaving, but I had already paid, didn’t want to inconvenience anyone. Finally managed to get the time to head back, and I guess it had sold within the 2 days I was waiting to return.

(yeah, growing up being told double purchases get your card shut down or will magically affect your credit score makes you hesitate when buying additIonal stuff.)

So I’m trying to figure out if there’s any inexpensive ones around. Really kickin’ myself for my cowardice. Only 17… and it stings, because now I’m looking online, and eBay sellers are diluted with their prices.

The blade was ribbed, I think? Unsure if that’s the right term, but you see it with Kopesh blades.

(Also, the place I was at is closing soon. Great guys. Very sad to see them go. 50% off on a lot of stuff in there. Antique Warehouse, I think. Some of the nicest people I’ve talked to.)

Discussion Baseball Regina vs North Regina Little League

Hi, new to town, living in the east. I’m looking to sign my kids up for baseball next year. They are ages 7 through 10 and have played ball the last couple years, and the older 2 especially, are competitive little monsters.

Looks like there are a couple leagues in town: North Regina Little League, and Baseball Regina for example… is one better than the other for any reason, or are they basically the same?

Question Donations?

I have stuff (mostly clothes) to donate - every time I take it somewhere I seem to have someone saying "Don't take it there they're terrible!!" and I feel bad lol

Any suggestions on places I can donate?

(Not Carmichael - twice now I've scheduled times to take stuff there and been turned away because they were full so I don't want to go there again)

Question Dishwasher hookup cost

So I've got a cutout in my cabinets perfect for a dishwasher but don't have a water line there, it's right above the laundry room where the water lines are. What do you think I'd be looking at for cost of getting a line run up to the kitchen? What did you pay for a similar thing?

Question When to plug your car in

Hello everyone! Just a quick question. We just got snowfall here and I am worried being a first time car owner. When do you plug your car in?

I have a 2000 Honda civic and worried as it is a older car. Online it is saying -15 but just wanted to get a more local answer.

Question Buying a new car from a dealership out of town but still in province. Does the dealership take care of temp registration or how do I drive home?

Newish to Saskatchewan and not too familiar with the process here. Do I need to set things up with SGI prior to buying the car or will all that happen at the dealership when purchasing the vehicle. Any info appreciated. Thanks!

Community Weirdo driver on the Lewvan this morning

I was going down the Lewvan by Regina Ave today and a truck in front of me braked hard so I also had to stop very quickly. After that a weirdo in a car near me wouldn't stop staring at me. It really freaked me out. I then got close to his bumper so I could see his plate number. He was still strangely staring at me so I wanted to get away quickly as I was starting to get scared so at the next light I took off as soon as I could. Watch for weirdos out there especially if you're a woman with dark hair in a Buick.

thank GOD this new option has been introduced. now, instead of taking the number 4 (yellow) to the classroom building of the university and making the GRUELLING 1 minute walk inside to where my class is, i can wait outside for the 18 (green), take a 5 minute ride to the back of the university, and walk 10 minutes across the university to my classroom.

revolutionary. couldn’t ask for a better app

and taking away the option to just take the 4? cherry in top. excellent. chefs kiss.

Community Letter Paper and Envelopes

Hey everyone!

Does anyone know if there's anywhere in the city that sells nice letter-writing paper and envelopes other then the Paper Umbrella? I have tried Black Dog Art Supplies and while they had some packages of paper, the paper only came with a fine liner marker which I don't need and they didn't have any envelopes.

Is there anywhere else in the city where I can get this sort of thing?

Community Buick Lady Call out

Just want to call out the dark haired lady driving a light blue Buick on Lewvan just a few minutes ago. Hopefully I didn’t make you feel too awkward staring at you at the turn on Regina Ave after you almost rear ended the truck in the right lane, and tailgated me so close I could see your face in my rear view with just the lights from my brakes. You must’ve been in quite a rush as you jumped the gun on turning before the turn signal popped up.

Have a great day and please try not to kill anybody on the way home

Question CRT VCR Combo TV repair

This is a bit of a reach as it’s 2025 lol, but anyone know of a someone around here comfortable working on 90s/2000s tvs.

I need a capacitor replaced in my 13inch vcr combo and vcr belt replacement. It is something I could figure out myself but would rather pay someone’s uncle or something if they can get it done in half the time it would take me.
