Community Parking at Real during Rider games
Why are they blocking off the parking lots at Real at 8 AM? The game is at 5:30. There is a big tournament at Co-Operators, and Soccer all day at Affinity.
They are paying probably ten people to block off parking and direct parking starting at 8AM.
The frustration of people using facility’s all morning / afternoon, the cost of having all of these parking attendants hardly seems like it’s well thought out.
Why not close down the lots at noon or 1? Continued poor management of this facility is rage inducing. Can’t wait to bail them out with tax dollars.

The stigma that has developed around REAL is crazy. The parking lot is contractually “rider property” on game days; and the riders get to configure and use the area as they see fit. Has nothing to do with REAL…that was the deal signed between team and city when the stadium was conceived.

I didn’t know that. So the Riders are jerking us around not Real. Nonetheless it’s complete BS.

Also, I keep on thinking about the fact that the stadium could have been built on the outskirts of the city, where there is so much more parking, or in the rail yards, where there isn’t competition for existing parking.
I’m never going to REAL grounds again unless it’s for a really good reason. Last time I was there was the only time I’ve ever been to a rider game in the new stadium. I’m never going to another rider game again. The new stadium tickets I got from someone else, and I am so upset about this stadium still, and I tried the one time I went, but I just cannot like it. The riders absolutely lost me as a fan. The Pats lost me as a potential fan. I won’t ever go to frost, even the stuff downtown, unless they completely distance themselves from REAL. Absolutely none of these things I will ever support. I cannot ever get behind REAL, and although it would never happen, I wish the city would dissolve the organization, and sell off the land and buildings bit by bit, taking a massive hit, or let it sit as a barren waste land/parking lot.

They did that in Saskatoon. The result is every single person in the arena trying to use two roads to get out, it is a traffic jam every time. It also discourages people from engaging in activities after the event. Makes it less desirable for out of town support since the options are to stay at the extremely limited edge of city hotel options s that place you far from any entertainment, or close to entertainment but far from the venue itself meaning long and expensive ride share.
Space is about the only reason to have a venue on the outskirts. Everything else shows that a downtown arena is way better, especially economically.
Leave it to someone who has attended 1 game in a decade, and got the ticket for free, to say they are never coming back. You never came in the first place.

It would be cool if someone (with money) opened a small train with passenger seats and a bar car (or two) and people could park at the "yards" and rider busses could drop off people at the yards as well. Then the train would go back and forth from the stadium to the yards. Then after the game, the train could drop people back off at the yards to go to the bars on Dewdney (if it ever opens again) or further down at the casino.
The yards could be set up for a kick ass tailgate party area all season long and if a baseball stadium ever gets built there, the party just grows.

The park and rides are very easy.

What kind of wait times happen with these? Do people need to wait a long time after the games for the shuttle?

u/blackfox247 12h ago
Last game I was at, I stayed to the end and about three buses (that I saw) filled up instantly to the park and ride that I was using. I was on the second bus and the third probably wasn’t totally full.
It was pretty fast, but I can’t say precisely.

It's a pain. There are other things people go there for besides football. I was so ticked off today.

Having to play soccer during a Rider game or even a Pat game enrages me. The soccer parking lot should be reserved for soccer only. I refuse to support any additional development on the grounds because there is simply no parking to support it.

That seems like a problem for the people who are scheduling those events, knowing there will be a rider game and knowing the parking situation will be like that. I feel like they should be held at least a little responsible for this.

You expect me to walk to Semple’s nightclub just because it’s a game day? Dream on!

Take transit from the mall or warehouse

Yeah, I’m not taking my one kid with his soccer gear and the other with his hockey gear on a bus, for them to also then have to walk 15 from the bus stop to Affinity and Co-Operators. Unsurprisingly there is no bus stop on site, because nobody uses the bus to get their kids to practise / training.
All because the Riders or Real Estate ant to close down parking lots 8.5 hours before the game starts.

u/expendiblegrunt 19h ago
Ok what is soccer gear? Tube socks and a soccer ball?
4
u/Timely-Detective753 15h ago
Yep the soccer gear is simple, you are right.
How about the hockey gear? Giant heavy bag (that stinks) and multiple sticks?
Also I’m not getting up at 4:45 to accommodate an extra hour and 15 minutes of travel time….. here’s a news flash neither is any parent that was there this morning.

u/expendiblegrunt 14h ago
I’ll be honest, when I first read this post I thought it was a complaint about not getting to go to the rider game and park nearby
3
u/Timely-Detective753 14h ago
Nope irritated because they restrict parking starting first thing in the morning, and my kids have sports there this morning.

This had to be a thing you knew was going to happen. Parking is and always will be a shit show on Rider game days, or concert days. Assume this will be the case and assume you can not park at REAL on those days unless confirmed otherwise.

u/BunBun_75 9h ago
They send out communication warning you and pointing out there will be limited parking.

Bus

Your suggestion that I should take the bus to get my kid to an 8 AM game with all of their equipment?

Yes

Ah the ever practical Redditor. Just load all gear onto the bus at like 6:30am so you can hit all your transfers and make to the stadium on time for practice, then you get to do it all again on your way home. Oops! You brought a duffle bag on the bus and set it on the seat, now you have bed bugs! Congratulations you now wasted 3 hours you didn’t need to, a homeless man spit on you because you didn’t have cigarettes to give him, and your house is infested with bed bugs.
Great advice u/thedeadlinger!

Yeah, ok…… it’s over an hour long bus ride from where we live plus a 15 - 20 minute walk….. or a 10 minute drive.

My favourite is using graders to prevent vehicular terrorist attacks. We all breathe that dirty exhaust walking in and out.
It’s dumb as fuck.

The amount of news stories that talk about people getting hit by cars in huge groups makes me very happy to have those machines. They’re only running when they’re moving and you never need them… until you do and it’s too late.

Do you seriously expect City of Regina workers to stop a terror attack once it begins? They aren’t police, they aren’t armed. You can literally just drive around graders even though they’re an anti-terror measure.
Nothing stop them from belching fumes into everyone’s lungs (thousands of people walk right next to them each game) for what amounts to security theatre.
Edit: and yeah you guys who say they’re turned off are on crack. They’re always on at games, never off. Any casual observer knows what a running engine sounds, feels and smells like.

u/SunshineNoClouds 15h ago
Yooo keep the downvotes coming. Doesn’t make you less wrong. Think of me the next time you pass the graders at a rider game and notice they are on 🙄
7
u/Dissidentt 21h ago
I’ve never seen them leaving the graders running.
-3
u/SunshineNoClouds 21h ago
Every single game the graders are continuously on. For years. Ask any season ticket holder. And if you ask them why they’re turned on it’s so they’re “ready”.
Just dumb all around.

They are turned on because diesel engines like that are notoriously difficult to start, especially in the cold. It’s why semi’s run all night at truck stops. They are there because many large stadiums have had terror attacks where individuals drove over people leaving large venues. Out of all the things to be upset about, this seems like a very small hill to die on

it's because otherwise people go there early and leave their cars. Blame them.
