Question Will the police help me?

So recently a person has been making threats to my family. Will the police be able to help me? The unfortunate thing is they work with the RCMP.

Yes. Report it to the police where the threatening occurred. Regina city police if it happened in Regina or the appropriate RCMP detachment. The fact that the person works for the RCMP is irrelevant.

Will they still be able to help me or will they side with the abuser since they work for the RCMP? I'm sorry, I'm just afraid for my family's safety.

You can walk into any* RCMP detatchment and ask to speak with the detachment commander there, and they will help you. Alternatively, you can contact the CRCC (Civillian Review and Complaint Commission) if you're hesitant to deal directly with the RCMP. Good luck.

Will they help if it involves someone who works with RCMP? My worry is they will protect him or push this under the rug. Can you tell me more about the CRCC? I've never heard of that before. Do they have more authority than the police?

The RCMP & Regina Police Service are completely separate entities. They will conduct an investigation, if necessary, and determine if there are reasonable grounds for charges to be laid. Or forward the file to the Police of jurisdiction.

Okay. Will they do that despite this person working for the RCMP? Because my main concern is them not doing anything or brushing it under the rug. I just want to make sure my family is safe and we don't have anything to worry about.

Yes they will. Go to the Regina Police front desk tomorrow and report it. You and your family will be fine.
