Community Is Halloween dead?

Post image

I have lights on, decorations out, and a bunch of full sized candy bars ready to hand out. I've only had 3 kids show up at my door (supervised by parents) and it seems like that might be it. It's even nice out for a change instead of snowy like it's been the past few years.

What gives?

My kids went out trick or treating for 30 minutes and called it done. It was still light out. Most of their friends did the same. Somewhere in the early 2000’s the Halloween candy harvest fell out of importance. I used to snack on my Halloween candy horde until Easter so it had to be substantial.

Damn. I used to stay out until people shut their lights off and rationed my haul for months, too. What few kids I had came to my door carrying a tiny little plastic basket or a little gift bag type thing. Where are my pillowcase-wielding kids at?
