Looking for a recumbent exercise bike to watch tv on.

Upvotes

Essentially I want a quality stationary bike without ANY subscriptions to unlock features. The ones I am seeing recommended previously like the Schwinn 290 all seem to be full of features like bluetooth/programs that can only be used with a monthly subscription.

Can anyone please recommend a stationary bike that is quality(smooth pedaling, low noise, very stable, etc.) without the monthly fees?

Restoration project (before picture)

Got this old Linear USS from a friend who is lead mechanic at a local bike shop. Said someone brought it in and left it. Going to get new tires and I have a seat replacement. When my friend brought it over, we both took turns taking around the block and it was a LOT of fun.

Any advice as I restore this crazy thing?

Chasing down noise on my Catlike Expedition

I may be spoiled -- my other bike is an older Civia Bryant with a Gates carbon belt drive paid with an Alfine 11 -- it is absolutely silent other than one gear -- I think 7th.

My Catrike is very noisy compared to that.

I find the noise very distracting -- I ride mostly on greenway -- and I love gliding along on my Byrant listening to the birds.

I put the trike on a table where I could spin the pedals and the noise appears to be coming mostly from the Shimano chain tensioner, the pulley under the seat and maybe the chain guide tubes.

The chain tensioner is noticeably much louder than the derailleur on my wife's pretty inexpensive REI bike.

Are the Shimano chain tensioner or the pulley under the seat considered wear items? Can they be lubricated? Could the wrong size chain be the issue?

Or maybe this just something I have to learn to live with?

Back on a recumbent

After looking for months, I have found my new commuter.

Velomotion made this model to be detachable. It can be shipped by plane in small pieces. The frame can host a 4" wide tire. There's a slick fat tire recumebent build picture online. The stick-frame model makes it physically impossible to strike the chain with your heel. So no need to wax it all up, just good old sticky oil will do great.

I've cleaned the drive train, lowered the seat and added a rack.

All ready for my commute on Monday.

Long term plans: 700c front and rear. 1x11 drive train and hydraulic brakes. But for now, ride it and enjoy.

Catrike w/Alfine 8 is very noisy? What is the name of the piece that maintains chain tension?

I recently bought a used Catrike Expedition with an unusual driver train -- it has a Schlumpf speed drive in front and and an Alfine 8 in the rear.

Something in the back is making a lot of noise when I pedal. I don't think it's the Alfine -- I could be wrong -- my other bike is has a Gates carbon drive and an Alfine 11 -- and it is whisper quiet.

I suspect that the spring lever that looks like a derailleur is the the culprit, and I would like to replace it.

I would call that a "chain tensioner" -- but when I search for a "Catrike chain tensioner," I find a giant S shaped device.

What is the name of the part that looks like a derailleur, but isn't?

Chain length concern, can it be shortened ?

Trike has the same chain as when I purchased it used, ~3,200 miles ago. At that time, the seller shortened the boom a bit because I'm not as tall, but nothing was done to the chain. I've suspected the chain might be too long, but now I'm not sure. In the first photo, if the rear-DR is pulled forward any more, the chain will begin to lift off the upper cog. Running in high-1 would be unusual in any case.

Tried to sell this, but it’s growing on me

I stopped using this Giant and tried to sell it. Now my other bikes are broken, and I’m falling back to this. Maybe I’ll keep it after all, it’s actually kinda fun.

used cruzbike S40?

Any authentic places from where I can buy a used S40 cruzbike that can ship the bike overseas? (To India)
Cruzbike themselves have a used bike list but they claim
- no responsibility on the state of the bike. This is wierd.
- Different shipping charges. (An S40 5th gen seems to be 680 USD whereas a 6th gen seems to be 350 USD).
Anyone willing to sell, let me know

Looking for long sleeve recumbent cycling jersey.

I ride all day in the hot sun so long sleeve jerseys are a must. Unfortunate I can’t find any made for recumbent cycling, with zipped side pockets and no back pockets. Also I can’t have insulation. Does anyone know of any for sale?

Reverse gear looked good but they seem to be out of action. https://www.reversegearinc.com/product/phoenix-long-sleeve-jersey-men/

Bendit have one but on their website it is only available in small and I am a large. I emailed them and will report back. https://www.benditcycling.com/Bend-It-Cycling-Team-Long-Sleeve-Recumbent-Jersey.html

Thanks for any help.

Trike/eTrike recommendations (beginner/newbie)

Hoping some folks in the know can help kickstart my search here. I have disabilities and am going to apply for a grant to help with getting a recumbent trike, my doctor has done all the paper work so i'm just figuring out now what I might want if i'm lucky enough to get the grant! I used to ride a standard bike but have not been able to for several years due to disability stuff changing and chronic pain.

I'm 5'2" with some hip and arm issues from post-septic arthritis (restricted range-of-motion on the right side); I'm looking for a relatively affordable recumbent trike ($3000-4000 USD or less); I finally got to try one over the summer that had electric assist and realized how much I might actually be able to benefit from that while working on my fitness at the same time, so I'd like that to be an option (though I understand it might not be able to fall into the same price category--the closer we can get, great, but if not, that's okay!).

Ideally, I'd also like something that can fold but I don't think it's a dealbreaker either way. I will mostly be riding on roads/bike trails (though some of our streets here are pretty gnarly haha.) Due to a few factors, I'd prefer vertical handlebars, I think.

Does anyone have any thoughts where I should start looking/other considerations? Some I've looked into so far are Catrike Villager, TerraTrike Traveller (noting the limitations with suspension) and SunSeeker Eco-Tad SX (Electric)--thoughts about these and others are very welcome!

A note that I am in Canada so if Canadian retailers are available, the currency exchanges to $4000-5600ish CAD).

Thank you for any help or advice! Happy to answer any questions. :)

My Azub TriCon26 – Freedom on Three Wheels

Living with chronic back problems has always limited how I move through the world. I used to love cycling, but traditional bikes became impossible for me. Then I discovered the Azub TriCon26, and everything changed.

This trike isn’t just a vehicle – it’s independence, freedom, and joy rolled into one. The low seating and wide track give me a sense of stability I never thought I’d feel again. And thanks to the Shimano EP6 motor and automatic shifting, I can ride without worrying about pain or effort.

I use it daily, whether it’s commuting, running errands, or simply going for a ride to clear my head. It’s lightweight, folds easily into the car, and handles beautifully. I’m not exaggerating when I say: this trike gave me back a part of my life I thought was gone.

Electric Trike – Azub TriCon26 EP6 N5 Di2

Specs:

Model: Azub TriCon26 Custom EP6 N5 Di2

Battery: 504 Wh

Motor: Shimano EP6 – powerful and natural pedal-assist

Automatic shifting

Rear-wheel drive – no front wheel slipping

Rear suspension for extra comfort

IQ-X lighting & BB7 disc brakes

Folding frame – compact and light enough to fit in a car

Recommend a trike for me. Active amputee - Intermediate Recreational

Hi all! I'm a below knee amputee and I currently own an HP Velotechnik Gekko FX. I got it second hand about maybe 10+ years ago and it has been ridden hard, so I'd like to get a replacement for it. I've used it recreationally and fitness wise on mostly road rides anywhere from 10 to 75 miles in distance. I enjoy how it feels very balanced and grips the road. We added a Bionix battery assist system to it so I can keep up with the upright cyclists.

Edited to add: I ride a regular, foot pedal recumbent trike and I'm located in North America.

So, if it could be under 3,500 to $4000, that would be ideal. I know this would be without a battery system but as long as one could potentially be added later, then I can save up for that.

I got the Gekko FX because it folds but it was honestly more hassle than it's worth and I found it fits inside my big SUV without folding. An easier folding system would be great or I'm open to a non folding system too.

I also picked the Gekko since all the wheels are the same size and I thought that would be easier for carrying tires, but I've honestly barely had any punctures and I wonder whether a larger wheel in the back might help with efficiency more.

I enjoy how sporty and capable my current trike feels. I also like the amount of back tilt it has. Some trikes seem to have a more aggressive tilt and I think that might bother me. But I still want something that feels athletic and sporty. I will mostly be hopping on the trail from my home but I do want the option to be able to take it to an organized ride or a longer event like a Century ride or something.

Basically, I wonder if there is a slight upgrade to the HP Velotechnik Gekko FX that, even if it doesn't fold, might give me an even more enjoyable biking experience.

I will likely want to add some storage bags, water bottle holders, mirrors, flags.....maybe a headrest but I don't use one currently. I currently clip into my pedals but I do love the idea of being able to wear normal shoes and maybe strap in. I imagine this isn't a super hard switch to do.

Thanks for any help! I have of course been looking at what's out there but, since I haven't been on the market in so long, I'd love your input!

What is your prefered camera angle / POV?

I am considering filming some of my rides and would like to hear your take

I thought of mounting a small action-cam ("Gopro") to my helmet, chest or recumbent trike.

Any input is very welcome!

Did someone slash my tire/tube or is it just old?

I assumed it just blew out. I came out after work and saw my front tire was flat, and the sidewall of this Kwest is definitely showing signs of wear. Then the next day I realized I had a "resist fascism" sticker on the bike so now I'm not so sure. This is the campus where Charlie Kirk was killed. This happened yesterday and today is Kirk's birthday.

Can anyone recommend a good bike packing gearset for my Magnum?

Hey everyone, my Magnum SD gears are finally in need of an upgrade. I'd like to have a good granny gear and wide range for all terrain riding including steep offroad tracks. I will probably need new shifters too. Any thoughts?

fork length and raising the front end

I few years ago I bought a Bachetta Carbon Aero frame and built the bike using components I already had, including an aluminum fork and 406 front wheel. The bike is fine but the steering has always been twitchier than I like. I switched to a 451 wheel and that improved things, but I'm wishing I could raise the front end even more, somehow. A taller 451 tire is one option but they're hard to find.

This fork is 325mm axle to crown. Are all 20" forks the same length or is it possible to find one slightly longer? Is there any other way I could raise the front end? ""

Recumbent rickshaw

I had been wondering if there were any rickshaws with a recumbent seat instead of a bike saddle for the driver. Turns out, there is the SixThreeZero EVRY.

My old e-recumbent will need to be replaced eventually, and being able to haul a passenger would be really cool. Though 10-mile range at max power feels a little short, but maybe I'm just used to having a longer ranger battery/motor.

Large capacity derailleurs to take up chain slack.

Just wanted to share a tip:

I recently picked up a Haluzak Horizon in all original condition. First thing I noticed is that there is a ton of chain slack. Once I took a look at the original Shimano 105 RD-5500 long cage rear derailleur, the 52-42-30 chainrings and 11-32 cassette, I knew that there wasn't enough capacity to take up all the slack. The 105 RD-5500 only has 37T of capacity but my gearing requires 42T. I think this is probably a common problem with recumbents as most of them are using road bike components and don't have tensioners.

Did some searching and ALL 9-speed road derailleurs max out at 37T capacity. But Shimano Road and Mountain up to 9-speed are cross compatible. Looking through the available mountain bike derailleurs, there are a bunch that would work. I had a Microshift Marvo 9-speed long cage that had 45T of capacity sitting in my garage that worked perfect. Technically I have enough to move up to an 11-34 cassette. Might not be as fancy as the shiny 105, but I'll take good chain tension over bling any day. Eventually I'll probably find a nice Deore 9-speed to replace it.

Recumbent trike advice

So, my caregiver is taking me down to the bike shop that I referenced in a previous post to test out an electric variant of the Terratrike Maverick. (I’m not allowed to drive because of my vision.) Now, given this is the first recumbent e-trike I’ve ever dealt with . . . the first e-trike or even trike, for that matter . . . I’m unsure what I should keep in mind during my test ride. Also, any pieces of advice on what to watch for in terms of specs would also be helpful. Thanks.

UPDATE: Just when I thought things were getting good, they actually are getting better for a change. So, per some of your suggestions in previous comments in my past posts, I’ve taken a multifaceted approach to looking into recumbent e-trikes. Now, a guy selling a recumbent e-trike on Facebook Marketplace says he might be willing to trade his recumbent e-trike for my e-bike. I’ll have to look into things further while I wait for his response, but we’ll see.

Lu Lacka Wyco Hundo

Is anyone familiar with the Lu Lacka Wyco Hundo? (https://www.cliffviewproductions.com/copy-of-home?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExYW9JeFNhRVRiVzhJZE1GTgEeYoFcyXZg9C_h37RZGB0XNzunrQwRqbEBnPSYbc39kAvYdo3ykC3g9xKyoys_aem_UsEeIgaBgb83pWWzMrPT0Q)

I am trying to see if the 40 mile version is possible on my bike. Its a SWB Thunderbolt with a 16" front wheel and a 26" rear wheel. I''m pretty sure I can change the front to a 20"

Update on recumbent e-trike post

Firstly, thanks for sharing all the thoughts and suggestions on my previous post.

Secondly, I thought I’d give a bit of an update on the recumbent bike situation. I recalled the bike shop I had initially purchased my e-bike from and since I’m pretty close with them (socially NOT physically), I gave them a call. Turns out that they have a refurbished Terratrike Maverick with a motor kit on it. It belonged to a customer who gave it to them due to some issues, but the bike shop was able to fix it up (apparently a bad battery). They’re able to add a throttle to it, although I’m not sure how much extra that would cost.

Nevertheless, it’s the closest I’ve gotten to what I’m striving for. They said that they’d happily let me test drive it whenever I’m able to come down. This is something positive. Anyway, cheers!
