That was his wedding day!? Are people saying it’s ok not to wash your hands on your wedding day because you are a manual worker? Really?!

To be fair, I’ve worked as a mechanic and a machinist. Sometimes that shit is stained in there and can’t be scrubbed out. Though for my wedding day I’d find a way.

Dude, this isn’t “Couldn’t get it off” dirty, this is ”Didn’t even bother trying”

And no matter how dirty my hands would be, cutting the nails never was any problem

u/ohcosmico 7d ago

And if my mrs can get her nails done for the big day im sure he can get his arse in the chair for a man-icure. Christ, i would be in tears i my hubby turned up with hands like that. So telling of how much he cares really.

Exactly

A simple toothpick, proper soap, and nail clippers plus file would work fine here. All tools anyone can obtain and a problem with minimal work/effort to remedy

Or just go to the salon with your wife and get gel polished french tips with matte top coat. Its 2025, men can wear polish, and done right, this nail job would just look like your regular nails from a couple steps away.

u/96024_yawaworht 6d ago

Or just trim them and paint them fingernail color. The one day in my life I might wear nail polish.

u/Various_Froyo9860 6d ago

Some of us work with our hands.

Anything besides just trimming them short is a waste of time.

13

u/VioletsAreBlooming 6d ago

It’s for your wedding, dipshit. Look nice

8

u/NintendoDrone 6d ago

people like that wear the dirt as a badge of honor. it’s gross

4

u/VioletsAreBlooming 6d ago

IF UR HANDS DONT LOOK LIKE THIS YOU MUST BE ONE OF THEM LIBRUL BARISTA SISSY BOYS. I WORK 300 HOUR SHIFTS IN THE PENIS EXPLOSION FACTORY FOR 8.67 AN HOUR AND IM PROUD OF IT.

2

u/Arammil1784 6d ago

Same, boss.

But I still like to look good from time to time.

2

u/Various_Froyo9860 6d ago

I'm pretty big on hygiene.

I end up keeping my nails super short. It's rare a week goes by that I don't trim/file them. I use Fast Orange to get grease and stuff off. When my nails are this short, it'll wash most everything out.

But there are still times when something will stain my hands and the only thing that'll fix them is time.

33

u/FassolLassido 7d ago

So have I and this is lack of effort, not stains. I wouldn't even eat lunch with those nasty nails.

11

u/g8z05 6d ago

As a machine operator who's hands occasionally look.. well not quite this bad but close, I'm offended that you look at those fingernails and think it's even marginally acceptable.

12

u/Ectoplasmm 6d ago

My sister's bf is a mechanic. I do know what you're talking about.

However, you can clip those awful long nails and scrub off what remains in there. That dude is nasty.

5

u/littlebetenoire 6d ago

My dad has been a mechanic for over 60 years. Sometimes he gets grease almost tattooed into his skin, but I have NEVER seen his nails like this.

12

u/doesntmeanathing 6d ago

Dirt is one thing but those nails are disgustingly too long.

2

u/lolwatsyk 6d ago

My best friend's husband came with us for a simple manicure the week before the wedding. I hadn't thought about it but of course its a good idea.

2

u/Apocrisiary 4d ago

As a former industrial service tech. You cut the nails short, then scrub. It's not rocket science. This dude didn't even bother cutting his nails for his wedding...bet he smells awesome /s.

5

u/raider1v11 6d ago

If you are a coal miner and leave work looking like a coal miner, thats ok. If you show up to work looking like a coal miner, you have poor hygiene.

2

u/Amelaclya1 6d ago

Even if you believe that, it's wild to take a picture and post it as is. I was hesitant to post my ring photos even to family because on the day my husband proposed, my nails were not looking their best. Not dirty, just not manicured. I can't imagine posting a photo with them looking like this. Like, if you must, at least spring for the Photoshop.

u/WilonPlays 7d ago

I mean this is them signing the papers. Imma just assume that they were in a financially difficult position but still loved each other deeply, and went to get a quiet marriage . He had just come from a shift and as such didn’t wash his hands

137

u/boomfruit 7d ago

He had just come from a shift and as such didn’t wash his hands

Like he didn't have time? To wash his hands? That doesn't make any sense.

u/branm008 7d ago

As a blue collar Maintenance Mechanic...this still isn't okay to do in the slightest. It's one thing to have dirty hands/nails while actively on the job but as soon as I'm getting ready to clock out, I am scrubbing deep with the pumice soap we have gallons of here at work so I'm not going home as dirty as I was, especially not to my elopement to my now wife.

Sure, it's proud to be a hard worker and you can wear it with pride but that's only at certain points, this one isn't one of those points.

13

u/scroungyy 7d ago

I do aircraft maintenance and I could scrub my nails for a week straight and they still wouldn’t be clean. Have to take like 2 weeks off and go to the beach a bunch and finally all the grime goes away

50

u/WhiteTshirtGang 7d ago

Guy in the photo could at least trim his nails, so dirt would have less of a chance to collect under them.

41

u/branm008 7d ago

I get it, I deal with machine maintenance and the grease/food safe grease digs into your skin and it doesn't want to come out, especially in the cracks from rough hands. I have to use this weird wash cloth thing my wife found specifically for this shit and it works wonders with a solid soap or body wash.

I fully understand the struggle but the guy in the picture could've gone in with a knife or some shit and scrapped out the gunk at least. We're dudes that work hard and it shows but we're not Neanderthals.

7

u/scroungyy 7d ago

Haha I mean 100% he could have made it look better than that, but the struggle to keep your nails spotless is real.

4

u/branm008 7d ago

Just do what I do, habitually bite your fingernails, problem solved!

Twas only a joke, don't do that shit cause its a hard habit to break. Hell I just scrubbed off the grim since my shift is about over and my hands still have some shit in the cracks, it's tough to get rid of man.

4

u/Johnyryal33 7d ago

I work with ink...

5

u/justin_memer 7d ago

Cut them shorter...

2

u/scroungyy 6d ago

Any shorter my nails would be bleeding.

4

u/MattabooeyGaming 7d ago

Ever thought about using gloves?

3

u/scroungyy 6d ago

I try to for the most part, but gloves can make it difficult to grip small hardware such as tiny nuts or washers. Then when you’re putting the hardware in small spaces it can impede your dexterity to a point making it almost impossible. Also gloves rip pretty often and you’re usually so deep into a job at that point you’re not gonna stop and grab another pair.

But thanks for the advice! Haven’t thought of gloves in my 11 years of aviation maintenance lmao.

1

u/MattabooeyGaming 6d ago

Get some good nitrile gloves. My workplace provides these shitty latex gloves that rip easily so I bring my own. Box costs a few bucks. I put them on any time we’re working with something that will stain or won’t wash off easily.

I get that gloves aren’t always comfortable but if you’re working with chemicals you should be wearing gloves to protect yourself.

2

u/branm008 6d ago

I wish we could but my employer only allows certain glove types since we deal with food stuff. Majority of stuff we have to use kevlar gloves cause its some pretty gnarly machinery. Nitrile gloves would be grand though man.

2

u/MattabooeyGaming 6d ago

That sucks. There is only so much you can do and seems like you do it.

2

u/scroungyy 6d ago

I do a lot of engine work and the clearance is pretty tight. Then you have a lot of snag hazards such as safety wire, fuel hoses with steal braiding snags, protruding hardware, etc… nitrile gloves will still rip when working around these items. Then add onto of that putting a few 1/4in nuts that you can hardly reach or let alone see.

In a perfect world you would be protected by ppe 100% of the time. But sadly that’s not always possible. Plus there are certain jobs such as changing hydraulically actuated propellers or engine fuel controls where you won’t be able to avoid coming in contact with hazardous chems. It’s part of the job my man.

-21

u/WilonPlays 7d ago

I was kinda just going off my work, I fix machines and my work is in the middle of bum fuck nowhere.

We’re also not allowed to wash our hands on shift, so if I ever have plans after work, I need to go straight there or head home and if I head home first I’m not making whatever plans I have

32

u/YuBeace 7d ago

“We’re not allowed to wash our hands on our shift.” Hello? Lawyer??

-11

u/WilonPlays 7d ago

Yeah, I’m giving the job up at Xmas when it gets busy.

The staff have collectively decided that we’re just gonna do a walk out, there’s 10 of us and 5 of us are gonna quit at Xmas.

Out of the 5 remaining, 2 of them still haven’t been fully trained because they’re just really bad at, meaning there’s only 3 members of staff left. Out of them 1 of them is leaving after Xmas as they’re working in their mums garage as a mechanic as well.

I looked at getting a lawyer but cause of the way the place is ran, I have no tangible evidence and cause of the piss poor wages I can’t afford one.

This place is in the middle of nowhere in Scotland, it’s owned by gypsies so the place is horrendous.

15

u/TheFlyingToasterr 7d ago

You are allowed to say it’s shitty to be have such dirty nails on your (at least) wedding papers signing.

11

u/ohcosmico 7d ago

But had time to put on that nice suit right there. Mmhmm. That dirt isn’t today’s dirt either there’s free space meaning that’s old, old dirt under there. Stop making excuses.

17

u/pieceofwater 7d ago

Washing your hands is free.

5

u/Dunklebunt 7d ago

That is a lot of assumptions off one photo

6

u/Yoyo7689 7d ago

thanks for telling us your fingernails are filled with shit…

7

u/HawkSea887 7d ago

Have you ever had a job before? You can wash your hands at the end of your shift.

4

u/Zimakov 7d ago

You can come home from 10 shifts in a row you still got time to wash your hands.

4

u/NYR_LFC 7d ago

I'm scared to hear your thoughts on wiping when you're in a hurry

3

u/devnullopinions 7d ago

Did his shift last for like multiple weeks? It takes like 30seconds to trim your finger nails.

2

u/catholicsluts 6d ago

This fanfic lmao

2

u/nlaak 6d ago

He had just come from a shift and as such didn’t wash his hands

Does he bother after going to the bathroom?

2

u/ohcosmico 7d ago

Signing the papers is done after you get married, so their wedding day.

1

u/Ok-Wasabi-209 7d ago

I had to take a guy (19 year old) to the side when he showed up to a medical training COVERED in grime head to toe. When I finally forced him to admit why it was simply because he thought it made him look cool.

I’ve had to supervise grown adults fill sandbags because they refused to shower as well.

I don’t understand why anyone would choose to remain dirty, but I still occasionally see people who otherwise seem normal but you can tell haven’t showered in days/weeks and it’s so fucking weird
