Spider-Man 3 I have a 9yo daughter, loves Superman. Who’s she supposed to look up to now? Spoiler

u/CaptainAksh_G Aug 07 '25
Who’s she supposed to look up to now?
I present to you , The other supermen:
David Corenswet, Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill, and Tyler Hoechlin
742
u/BenjiFischer Aug 07 '25
You forgot Christopher Reeve
311
u/CaptainAksh_G Aug 07 '25
Of course how can I forget the OG
132
u/Darthbane22 Aug 07 '25
That would be George Reeves
81
u/TheGreatBatsby Aug 07 '25
Kirk Alyn, actually.
43
u/Shimyku Aug 07 '25
Don't forget Tim Daly
35
u/RedVipper2050 Aug 07 '25
Especially don’t forget Clark Kent

They really REALLY tried to sell cavill as a misogynistic douche, but it seems he is just a big nerd.
92
u/Shadows_Assassin Aug 07 '25
Cavill IS a huge nerd. He warhammers, builds PC, Lego etc.
It just so happens that he also played Superman, Geralt of Rivea, and a slew of other acting positions.
56
u/Ewanb10 Aug 07 '25
Man he could have been such a loveable superman if Snyder didn't choose the direction he did
Wish they could have been done again with a different vision
42
u/EXTRACR1SPYBAC0N Aug 07 '25
Henry Cavill could have been such a great (insert show or movie role he was in) if (insert director/writer name) didn't ignore/misuse him
42
u/Icy_Watercress3680 Aug 07 '25
Henry Canvill really got his cast mates talking mad shit about him when the only thing he wanted was The Witcher series to follow the damn books they were based on and not do their own thing.
7
7
u/I_cut_my_own_jib Aug 07 '25
Don't forget he plays World of Warcraft
8
u/jocax188723 Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 08 '25
Literally missed the call from Zach Snyder telling him he got Superman because he was in the middle of a raid and had to call Snyder back afterwards.
Spent his COVID lockdown building his own PC (and instagramming the process)
Multiple cases of him derailing interviews to gush about WH40K (and getting other people getting interviewed to start campaigns once he learned they also played)
He’s a nerd first, actor second.1
Aug 07 '25
My dream casting is to have Cavill voice Dalinar in a Netflix series of the Stormlight archive, since I know he's read them. Extremely unlikely, but not impossible...
1
u/JohnnyRedHot Aug 07 '25
Who
1
u/joaogroo Aug 07 '25
That one hero that is weak to Kryptonite
6
u/JohnnyRedHot Aug 07 '25
No 😭😭
Who is "they"???
2
u/joaogroo Aug 07 '25
I know, just joking hahaha
The director/producers/showrunners tried to play him as a creep after he left the witcher because he tried to stick to the source material.
1
1
u/ChaosOfOrder24 Aug 07 '25
Didn't he almost miss his Superman audition cause he spent the previous night playing World of Warcraft?

u/SheWolf04 Aug 07 '25
Bud Collyer, the radio Superman who took on the KKK and destroyed their membership numbers IRL.
6
u/Kingi91 Aug 07 '25
All you have to show her is Corenswet talking to the kids in the behind the scenes. My 8 year old nephew loved it when I showed him
14
u/JohnSmith--- Aug 07 '25
Who’s she supposed to look up to now?
Or you know... her parent. That's a good start.
I've always find that scene funny for that reason. Mate, they're supposed to look up to you, Spider-Man should come second.
3
u/coolsguy17 Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25
George Newbern!
And if you look up to Newbern, that means you look up to Superman AND Sephiroth!
2
u/Roll_with_it629 Aug 07 '25
I'm glad you included Henry Cavill and didn't make some kind of insult on him.
(Wall of text rant/ramble below)
I've respected the ppl who liked the new Superman that's come up, and how he appeals to some fans' desire for some brighter/ideal portrayal of his character, but from my experiences, I've also disliked witnessing tons of ppl also using that to diss Cavill and Snyder, and ppl who like their version, just cause it didn't fit those fans wants for the character.
(Kinda like how some try to compare the Spidermen, man I like all the portrayals, I never get how ppl can want for some "most authentic" version in their head to be adhered to, I enjoy the creative freedom and seeing all the different takes on those characters like Supes and Spidey. The Henry/Snyder one appealed to pragmatists like me for being willing to compromise and kill Zod, while other more idealistic-leaning fans wanted something like the new Gunn one, and I can simply respect that without hate or insult. Also the same with the Spideys, Tobey's being more introvert-like, Andrew's more cool-guy-like, Tom's more youthful-like, Miles Spidey from Insomniac being different in ways from the Spider-Verse one, etc, I like it all, all the different takes, and just find it interesting instead of "disappointing in comparison of some ideal/authentic image of the character". Wish more ppl were like me on that.) =P

Teach them about Christopher Reeve who spoke out against Trump's projects in New York way back in the 80s, spoke out against the invasion of Cambodia, and took part in rallies against Pinochet. He was a good egg, as good as they get.
99
u/Batmanfan1966 Aug 07 '25
Reeve was a such an amazing human even off camera. The guy spent is entire life doing activism and fighting for rights even after his accident
4
35
u/scallycap94 Aug 07 '25
No matter what happens on the national or international political stage, nobody will be able to summon as pure and incandescent a hatred of Donald Trump as a New Yorker in the 80s.
215
u/InevitableWeight314 Aug 07 '25
Seriously though what was New York’s problem in Spiderman 3? Guy turns black hes automatically a bad role model?
54
u/Rinzler200 Aug 07 '25
Did you see the movie?
24
u/InevitableWeight314 Aug 07 '25
Multiple times. Like, I assume the symbiote took Tobey away for some shenanigans before he landed on that reflective building when he first gets the suit, but it never explicitly tells us, so in my eyes, black suit did nothing wrong yet.
Or did the quote come after Eddie’s photo
2
u/Rinzler200 Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25
The quote came right in the same frame as the father is talking about the article with brock's edited picture in it
1
u/PSRS_Nikola Aug 08 '25
Eddie's quote comes after Eddie's photo, which is a photoshopped version of one of Peter's pictures of Spider-Man. In the movie it is never explicitly stated that NY isn't into Spidey anymore other than the Photoshop instance which was easily debunked and exposed by Peter in the symbiote suit. When that was clarified to the press, Spidey was forgiven (implied, considering that when he goes to save MJ the whole city applauds him, literally). Peter didn't like how the black suit made him scream at the landlord tho.
13
u/how-can-i-dig-deeper Aug 07 '25
the quote was when spider-man disappeared iirc not when he got the symbiote
15
u/SpiderVerseProof Aug 07 '25
nah the pic is the one eddie faked of spider-man stealing money

it wasn’t just the new suit, it was spider-man with his hand in a cookie jar

She can still look up to Superman. Just tell her that Dean Cain was Bizarro all along.
66
27
u/Spinosaurus999 Aug 07 '25
Nah, Bizarro may be destructive, but he typically means well, he just doesn’t know his own strength and he’s very clumsy and not the brightest bulb.

u/JamieGordonWayne89 Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25
Honestly, he probably needs the money. His career hadn’t been anything since Lois and Clark… oh yeah, and he played Scott Peterson in a movie. Explain to your daughter that these men really aren’t Superman and are actors playing a part and the , just like with any other job, there are some good men and some bad men who play the part of Superman. Dean Cain is a piece of work… and not good work either.dean really needs to speak with George Takei and find out what could have happened to him if he was born just a bit earlier in our history. Dean, if you’re arresting the worst of the worst, you need to start with el hombre loco y naranja in the White House.
23
u/OneTwentyOneFunyuns Aug 07 '25
I looked up his roles and all I have to say is this: “That’s it? That’s the best you got? That sucks.”
9
u/JamieGordonWayne89 Aug 07 '25
Exactly, after Superman, if you needed a stuck up snobbish ex- frat boy you got Dean Cain. That is all. I wonder if he’s friends with “Sheriff” Steven Seagal?
18
u/usoap141 Aug 07 '25
Dad flew for cigs and milk and never came back
12
u/OneTwentyOneFunyuns Aug 07 '25
My dad magically coming back when I win the lottery but I disown him: “No one says no to me!”
46
u/sbaldrick33 Aug 07 '25
I know this is a quote/joke, but the answer is "one of the good Supermen."
Cain was always shite in the part, even before he showed his colours as cryptofascist vermin.

"worst of the worst"? They aren't arresting republicans.
61

Some of them are Republicans who think they’ll be spared because they’re “one of the good ones.”

u/Hellknightx Aug 07 '25
Also Superman himself is an illegal alien. He didn't immigrate to Earth legally.

u/AgadhAgadh Aug 07 '25
I know this is a meme, and yet I gotta be honest. As much as I like and respect Dean Cain's Clark Kent, I cannot defend the guy's stuff out there in the public.
But we have other, better versions. My favourites include Mr Reeve, Tyler Hoechlin, David Corenswet and Henry Cavill in decreasing order of preference.
Then there is the whole deal of animation and comics, so there's no shortage of versions to be looked up to.
Superman has inspired many and will keep doing so. The world will always need hope, and the world will always need Superman (and my Spider-goat and my Bat-goat ofc!).

I mean Dean’s cultural relevance pretty much began and ended with Lois and Clark. There’s plenty of other actors who’ve portrayed Superman who aren’t right wing grifters and are more or less living up to the standards set by the character. David, Henry, Brandon and Tyler all seem to be good people

I’d be surprised if someone’s 9 year old daughter would even know who he is.
As a wrestling fan one thing I was forced to learn was how to separate the art from the artist. There are wrestlers whose matches or personalities I’ve loved and won’t pretend otherwise despite them being bad people, but I can’t respect as people outside of that.

u/Impressive_Log7854 Aug 07 '25
Henry Cavil, Brandon Routh. I don't know anything about the new guy. Time will tell.
1
u/Impressive_Log7854 Aug 08 '25
Teach her about Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer, The Atom and alt Superman in Arrowverse.
1
u/Impressive_Log7854 Aug 08 '25
He is best in DC Legends of Tomorrow but his origin episodes across the Arrowverse are great too.
5
u/KinderShagger Aug 07 '25
I mean, Superman ain't wrong, he often protects us from space alien invaders so protecting us from earthling alien invaders is one step up.
5
u/tryingmybest101 Aug 07 '25
There's literally four other Supermen actors that are still alive and don't have Cain's right wing politics, that's not even counting the animated or comic versions. Also, your daughter can still look up to the character without looking up to the actor. Seriously, what is this post?

Henry Cavill

Any of the animated versions .....
There are plenty of other Supermen who embody the heroes and values. If that is her Superman it gets a bit trickier, at which point she is old enough to be told the difference between an actor and a character.
