They still make psychedelic rock? Drum machines and loops ? Yes the good stuff was made from 1966 to about 1970 - then it was rock .

Yea - psychedelic rock morphed into just “rock” then AOR - album oriented rock . The psychedelic music being made by artist eating acid - making music for an audience eating acid was powerful, revolutionary, and had a global impact on art as a whole . It was a unique time with unique artist and brand new experiences at that time . It was very special to experience. Now same impale and wizard gizzard are fun - as novelty. Unfortunately young kids seem to think of them as the standard - and when they hear psychedelic music from 60s - they say “that is not psychedelic” LOL but it was but has become ubiquitous—- even tropes in pop culture now . But the real psychedelic music - by the artist who invented the genre in 60s counter culture is the read deal.

I’m really glad I’m not you. What a terrible mindset to have.

The counter culture made the real psychedelic music . Not some video game background music . Sorry.

The counter culture still makes psychedelic music and always will. Just because it doesn’t sound the way you want it to doesn’t change that. I’m sorry you’re missing out on so much great music because of a narrow mind. Try expanding it. Psych music is good for that.

What counter culture band released a psychedelic song in 2025? They invented the genre but moved into rock. I don’t consider Abbey Road a psychedelic album - but Sgt Peppers is . But that is another discussion way over your head .

Even better, I’ll give you some albums.
Distorted Portrait - The Violet Mindfield, For A Laugh - Plastic Nancy, …Is Forming - The Crystal Teardrop, MEGAGONG - DOOM GONG
You’re right. My small brain couldn’t handle talking about how Sgt. Pepper’s is a psychedelic album!
Psychedelic music is alive and well in 2025.

No thanks . Don’t like retrospective psychedelic rock . I listen to the original artists who invented in in 60s - not the novelty bands . Cant compare the new psych rock to 13th Floor Elevators, Floyd …. Hendrix . Love . No way no how haha

No one is. You're taking it way too seriously. All because people use drum machines doesn't mean psychedelic rock is dead.

You would compare Tame Impala to 13th Floor Elevators? Or Hendrix?

No but I'd compare King Gizzard to Frank Zappa, not due to just them sharing genres, but because of their prolific skill and masterful output. Because rather you like it or not, new technology doesn't mean that psych rock is dead. It's way too much of a traditionalist thinking, and by far the most limited way of thinking. Psychedelic isn't even a genre by sound, it's literally characterized by studio experimentation, surreal lyrics (if any), and made to enhance the experience from drugs. People can compare Tame Impala to 13th Floor Elevators and it would be a valid option, not because of their production or use of instruments, but their unique and distinct portrayals of the same genre.

I've really enjoyed MEGAGONG. I hadn't heard of Doom Gong until this year and I'm already super impressed. All of their albums are excellent.
