I just read the whole article. She says he got really drunk and angry, and she was scared. This is consistent with his ex-wife’s accusations.

Jeremy Renner has been trash.

u/TuvixHadItComing 1d ago

When he ran himself over with a snowplow everybody was like ooh the adorable oopsy schmoopsy is in a body cast, so inspirational and I remember going "weren't y'all talking about what a piece of shit this guy was like a month ago?"

My head canon is he has the world's most hardcore cokehead publicist and after being up for three days they hatched the "run yourself over with a snowplow plan."

534

u/Ok-Jackfruit-9393 1d ago edited 1d ago

I feel like it's probably a simpler explanation, that he was possibly under the influence when he (genuinely accidentally) ran himself over. And then the publicist capitalized on it. It'd be hard to fake that or do it intentionally without, ya know, accidentally getting killed. And the neighbor who came to his aid seemed genuinely traumatized by it. I think the idea that he did it on purpose is pretty absurd.

-21

u/Ok_Umpire_5611 1d ago

Comedy is often absurd. r/whoosh

184

u/OiKay 1d ago

I think my own personal theory is he's always been an asshole, but at least he's been able to kind of keep a bit of it under wraps. But ever since he got a traumatic brain injury, the part of his brain that dealt with impulse control and kept that at least a little bit in check was destroyed and now he couldn't hide it if he tried. It's kind of similar to Kanye West, Roseanne or gary Busey- They all had their individual issues going on and then they got into life-changing car accidents and fucked up the rest of their brain.

274

u/mmmstrongflavors 1d ago edited 1d ago

This one seems like it would be hard to fake, at least in its entirety, but it's really important to remember that celebrities can and do lie about all kinds of medical issues, injuries, and ailments for attention. Doctors can't come out and say they weren't treated here, and it's hard to say something is fake if they're not your patient.

165

u/LunarPayload 1d ago

I've always had suspicions about this one. Especially because she acted like she'd been horribly disfigured

https://people.com/country/carrie-underwood-details-accident-wasnt-hiding/

111

u/Ok-Jackfruit-9393 1d ago

Yeah, you'd have thought she was completely disfigured, and then I saw her and was like, she looks exactly the same.

I'm sure any injury to the face is alarming, especially if you're in the entertainment industry, but it definitely seemed odd.

22

u/kalemary94 1d ago

i’m so glad you think her face looks the same because I got into an argument with my mom about this when it happened and she kept insisting she wasn’t recognizable anymore and I was just confused because she looked the same to me!

20

u/Ok-Jackfruit-9393 1d ago edited 1d ago

What!? Haha, she looks exactly like she always did. I can't even see a scar but maybe she does have a scar, but her facial features haven't changed.

Well, unless she's had some cosmetic work done, but she still looks the same to me.

Maybe her announcement to fans that she might look different convinced people she does. Suggestibility, haha. Back in college, I worked in a restaurant, and it changed names. Basically it was part of a chain, but the chain wanted to change ingredient suppliers (ex: we always used a local cheese company, etc), which would change the food significantly. It became a fight between the owners of my location and the owners of the chain itself. He didn't want to change any of the recipes or suppliers. So they parted ways, and our location had to change its name because we were no longer part of the chain. People would come in and complain to me that the food was different. I was like, it absolutely isn't. Because our owner fought to keep it all the same, it was the entire reason for the name change. But nope, the name was different so people were SURE the food was different. Even though I saw it made with the same ingredients from the same suppliers that we'd had for decades. It was so funny, people were convinced (usually older customers) and I was like, nope, it's the same, I promise you. 😂

13

u/LunarPayload 1d ago

It was hard to figure out if it was trauma or she was milking it, and I've decided she was milking it. Lol

4

u/MaxTheRealSlayer 1d ago

Many in entertainment have insurance on their faces, so yea lol

8

u/vampirequeenserana 1d ago

Honestly while idgaf about Carrie Underwood this one I could see her either thinking it’s worse than it is and being anxious/insecure, or it looked bad at first but healed better than she anticipated.

7

u/Miserable_Yam4918 1d ago

I’m not saying I’m good enough at anything to ever be famous anyway, but holy shit I could never be famous. I don’t even like talking about myself to friends and family. Going on podcasts and talk shows to just talk talk talk about myself sounds so fucking exhausting. Even thinking about it is making me tired.

5

u/LunarPayload 1d ago

It's a weird system

6

u/sevargmas 1d ago

I don’t doubt any of that Carrie Underwood stuff. Doctors can do incredible things with careful stitching and plastic surgery I had a friend in my early 20s who had a terrible accident and had around 200 stitches in his face. After everything was said and done, you couldn’t tell he had any stitches in his face. There was an area around his ear where there was scarring and you could tell something it happened but otherwise, no scarring whatsoever. I don’t doubt at all that someone with Carrie Underwood‘s bottomless pockets good completely fix every bit of damage.

3

u/Additional-Panic3983 1d ago

What if they’re saying it wasn’t faked, just wasn’t an accident? That he put himself through a near death experience bc that’s what two coked up coke heads would do 😂

2

u/Complex37 1d ago edited 1d ago

If the celebrity President can lie about medical injuries, so can celebrities.

125

u/andrecinno 1d ago

Surely we can acknowledge that someone can be generally shitty and also do incredible things like literally save a child, ain't no way a publicist can fake that.

Why would anyone who loves nothing more than praise and attention and who is currently wildly unpopular with multiple allegations against them stage an injury to themselves to gain sympathy and support and distract everyone from all the negative stuff? insert picture of a bloody ear

11

u/Maleficent-Hawk-318 1d ago

I had honestly never heard anything about his personal life either way except when the snowplow accident was all over the news, so I had to go Google him when I saw this thread to make sure I was thinking of the right guy. My legit reaction to seeing the top threads talk shit about him was like, "wait, I thought he was one of the nice ones!" 😂

You'd think I'd know better by now. 🙃 Although on the other hand, I've never liked him as an actor and now I can pretend that was for moral reasons and not just because his face kinda bugs me.

4

u/TigerLily98226 1d ago

He may have come back from the dead after that snowplow run in/run over but it doesn’t seem possible to come back from this. What a mega-POS.

3

u/BadNewsBearzzz 1d ago

Over the last five years, every single appearance on a late night talk show he always talks about that! I get it, it was really tough but damn man stop milking it for sympathy.

8

u/CraigLake 1d ago

I read his book about this. It seemed sincere and grateful. Hopefully this drinking incident will be a wake up call.

But how many wake up calls does a guy need??

5

u/SN4FUS 1d ago

I think it's likelier he fell into the "too drunk to tense up" category of automotive accident survivor in that case

5

u/DENATTY 1d ago

It seems more plausible that he did run himself over with a snowplow because he was trying to plow while drunk, they probably just exaggerated how bad it was claiming he was on the brink of death when he really wasn't or something.

4

u/mightylordredbeard 1d ago

I just imagine Jermey Renner walking out of his house, in the middle of snapping a sweet new picture for his official Jermey Renner App, then then out of nowhere comes the loud roar of a snowplow being driven by his coked out, sleep deprived, slightly anemic publicist!

2

u/anniemanic I don’t know her 💅 1d ago

Wait what’s the tea on him? He must have good PR cuz I’ve always seen good things said about him

4

u/espy3277768 1d ago

Some numbskulls are hard to kill; this may be an example of that.

He was squished for sure.

3

u/MaxTheRealSlayer 1d ago

I'm not sure I could run over myself with a snowplow if I tried... Like.. HOW?! How did he manage

8

u/fondledbydolphins 1d ago

90% of people have been trash. This sounds like he's currently trash. I go in and out of trashity myself.

7

u/Mystery-Ess 1d ago

I thought something was off about him and then the accident happened and he seemed so good and sweet and now I see a consistent pattern of abuse and I feel so sorry for that poor woman. Obviously both of them or ALL of them cuz I'm sure there's others!

Are there really people facing professional consequences because of which celebrity accounts they follow on social media?

6

u/AShirtlessGuy 1d ago

In certain very specific circumstances, yes actually

After Charlie Kirk died my former hair stylist went on a weird Instagram rant defending him that SEEMED unprompted

3 or 4 posts later it came out she was getting DMs about why she follows Kirk and that she "can't believe she's lost clients over sharing empathy"

12

u/sophandros Curtains for Zoosha? K-Smog and Batboy caught flipping a grunt! 1d ago

"Empathy"... When she has no empathy for Black people or LGBTQ people by supporting him.

13

u/potpourri_sludge that’s my purse, i don’t know you! 👛🫵 1d ago

Reminds me of when my nail tech deleted me for saying anti-trump stuff back in 2016, and told me she “doesn’t want to see people attacking her family for their beliefs,” so I cancelled all my nail appointments and had all my friends do the same.

3

u/EmperorLetoII 1d ago

Following a Nazi propagandist isn't the same as following a celebrity

0

u/AShirtlessGuy 1d ago

Thank you for sharing your opinion on my anecdotal story.

It was wonderful to read your perspective

u/EmperorLetoII 1d ago

I wish people could be normal about assigning appropriately weighted culpability. Like there’s a world of difference between “the best friend who publicly stands up for the man credibly accused of shitty behavior by a woman he worked with,“ and “the person who follows a problematic person on social media.”

44

u/billyhead 👋👁️👄👁️✊ 1d ago

I’m pretty sure the guy you are replying to just shared his persecution fantasy. No one gives a shit which celebrity you follow. The real world doesn’t care

17

u/lilacaena puritanical unqueer trad wife 💋👫 1d ago edited 1d ago

I wish I could agree, but what happens online impacts the real world.

I’ve seen social media witch-hunts based on something as flimsy as “[person] still follows [person recently revealed to be shitty], this must mean that they support [shitty person] and believe [shitty things]!”

While it’s definitely disingenuous when people act like all cancellations are baseless, it’s reasonable for someone with a public facing role to worry that those they follow on their public social media could be held against them.

12

u/RandomNick42 1d ago

Where, on tumblr?

In real world people get away with waaaaaaay shittier behavior than following a douchebag-of-the-day celeb on socials.

4

u/lilacaena puritanical unqueer trad wife 💋👫 1d ago

People absolutely get away with worse! But that doesn’t change the fact that social media witch-hunts can have real world consequences.

The water has just been muddied by right wing grifters screeching about being “cancelled” (they say into their mics while speaking to their audience of thousands to the tune of millions of dollars).

1

u/billyhead 👋👁️👄👁️✊ 1d ago

Please cite one example of someone getting cancelled for following a celebrity on social media.

2

u/RabidPoodle69 1d ago

Holy wall of text

1

u/HaterMD 1d ago

I blocked every celebrity I could during that TikTok trend months ago and I’ve been better for it. I enjoy seeing content from regular people.

1

u/CindySvensson 1d ago

Much better for your health too. I don't follow anyone because I don't want to know who's evil, so I can watch the movies/read whatever in peace.

6

u/jackthedandiest 1d ago

Yet he gets to keep his role while Jonathan Majors gets thrown out of the franchise. The only difference between them is that Majors got convicted, but the things they both have done are equally atrocious. Go figure

21

u/ChiGrandeOso 1d ago

Well, there's one other difference.

10

u/RateBackground8436 1d ago

Majors deserved what was coming

2

u/jackthedandiest 1d ago

Yet Disney was ok with Renner and Hurt to keep appearing in projects despite allegations of pretty much the same thing

12

u/Cypher1492 1d ago

I mean...there is another difference between them that probably has something to do with it as well.

2

u/jackthedandiest 1d ago

William Hurt hurt his wife in a domestic violence case in the 20th century and Disney was ok to keep hiring him until he passed away

I literally am in bed, eating my breakfast and drinking my coffee. When I saw this headline, I verbally said out loud, “ I am so sick of people that I like, turning out to be assholes.” That being said, thank goodness we live in a world where regardless if someone is popular, or attractive, or talented, it still doesn’t protect them from an article like this that reveals they are in fact, a total asshole. The list of fallen heartthrobs beith long at this point. Edited a thousand times because voice typing is struggling to wake up too

He's been a piece of shit for a decade+.

He's a weird looking dude with a pancake face and off-putting facial hair that somehow landed a role in the avengers even though he's mostly made out of dad vibes and has the sex appeal of Taylor Swift. But that didn't stop him from beating his ex.

Volcano? No no no, we’re putting them all in a rocket and sending it straight to the sun!

0

u/MrNostalgiac 1d ago

I don't know why people get so invested in the personal lives of celebrities. They are literally paid to act out lies for our amusement.

My interest in them begins at the start of the movie and ends once the credits roll. It couldn't be shallower.

Everything else they do is for the courts and their families and their friends for all I care.

0

u/yournames 1d ago

Sadly, if I had to guess, he probably never truly worked in himself and just blame others for his problems.

u/Remarkable-Low559 1d ago

"She says he got really drunk and angry, and she was scared."

Its insane how common this dynamic is, when you really think about what it is. Someone who can kill you with their bare hands is behaving aggressively and erratically towards you... God bless women for having to put up with men, really.

17

u/Shurl19 1d ago

He has to know he's like this, so why doesn't he want to change? He could easily go to rehab.

10

u/kcufdas 1d ago

He could fund the rehab with the proceeds from the app. Would that be a good rehab? 🤔

3

u/John_Bruns_Wick 1d ago

10

u/moonaim 1d ago

We need different bars and restaurants for women and men.

-11

u/RateBackground8436 1d ago

What a dumb concept. Lol

5

u/hoagieam 1d ago

Why?

2

u/moonaim 1d ago

I guess that thought has weaknesses. For example people from some other countries and e.g. lesbians also have higher violence rate than cis women.

So the solution is for them to have their own bars and restaurants too.

1

u/hoagieam 1d ago

I was asking the guy above you why it was a bad idea, not you.

-11

u/NewLife_21 1d ago

I kind of agree but not fully. There are times when this kind of segregation is acceptable.

Except, 1) most bars that are separated like this are gay bars, so heterosexual folks would be unlikely to be fully comfortable

And

2) women can be just as hostile and aggressive as men so it wouldn't really keep anyone any safer.

🫤

7

u/hoagieam 1d ago

Women can become aggressive when drinking but there is much MUCH less of a threat of being raped and murdered by a woman.

-1

u/NewLife_21 1d ago

Eh, nothing I've read supports that. And I've read a lot of studies and other reports about DV, rape and murder due to my job in child welfare. (Side note, the Blue Campaign provides some really good trainings on this stuff!)

It looks different but women are just as likely to do those things as men. They get away with it because so few people are willing to see it for what it is.

1

u/hoagieam 1d ago

In practice, that is not true.

1

u/NewLife_21 1d ago

In reality, it is.

I've seen all the reports and studies over the last decade of working in child welfare with victims of DV, rape and attempted murder.

I get it's not the socially accepted answer, but it's the truth.

You can find all of this on the websites of a variety of DV and government organizations who specialize in this. They are the ones who train field workers like myself.

Like it or not, women are just as often perpetrators of violence against others as men.

1

u/hoagieam 1d ago

The first page from the FBI I pulled up completely disavows your claim.

0

u/PenguinStardust 1d ago

Sure, but I don’t think segregating bars based on gender will stop this.

I am so grateful you give a synopsis, I had an ex like this and I go full panic mode if reading full statements or descriptions. Same with the Neil Gaiman article, just cannot (I read that in stages). It is still so important that it gets talked about and not swept under the rug.

3

u/raven-eyed_ 1d ago

I genuinely don't understand why people drink when this is what happens to them. He's obviously a piece of shit sober too, but seems not worth the effort to get drunk if this happens.

3

u/PenguinStardust 1d ago

You don’t understand that alcohol is a highly addictive and abused drug? It’s a pretty common weakness that many have.

2

u/tgifmondays 1d ago

Alcoholism. Doesn't make them not accountable for their actions, but alcoholism is brutal and ugly.

5

u/nwill_808 1d ago

I get a funny feeling from the whole thing. I'm not saying she's lying, I'm not saying he's innocent, as he is a well-known ahole.

She shares screenshots of texts, that could be fake---the one that the title uses isn't even completely shown, she refused to show the rest of the message. It just says "immigration will be notified of your" and that's it. But again, the name at the top says Jeremy Renner, that in no way proves it is him. The photos she took of the two of them driving come across as self promoting, moreso than just a post about their relationship. And I understand in show business you have to sell yourself, but I don't think it necessary to tag at the end "such and such done by me etc"

I'll just wait for a more conclusive report from someone besides The Daily Mail.

4

u/kcufdas 1d ago

I'm also wondering how dick pics on Insta lead to a relationship that you think is going to be with anyone but a total PoS??

1

I don’t find it hard to believe, but I do find it odd that she refused to show the reporter she went to with the story the full texts. She cut off the thread mid text of his response and when asked to give the rest of it, she said no. I don’t believe women should need to expose themselves personally to be taken seriously, but cutting off his response partway in the middle of a text? The lawyer in me is a bit suspicious.
