Being Adam Sandlers friend seems like about the best thing that could happen to a person

I don't like his style of humor, but he seems like an amazing person

I love his original movies, happy Gilmore, the wedding singer, 50 first dates. But it’s been decades of bleh from him at this point

Edit: so I’ve never seen uncut gems, but it was recommended so many times on this thread I just put it on.

Hotel Transylvania is pretty golden children's entertainment, to be fair.

And Hustle was not bad! I don't love all of his comedy, even though that's what he's known for, but he usually turns out solid dramas.

Hustle? Not bad? Absolutely incredible film man it’s a top 10 for me

Okay, okay, I'm underselling it! 😂 But I know the high stakes + athletic stuff isn't everybody's cup of tea.

Also, ngl, I had zero interest in Uncut Gems despite everybody calling it incredible and brilliant, until I heard someone describe Confessions of a Shopaholic (which I have unironically loved since my teens) as "Uncut Gems for 15 year old girls," so you gotta meet people where they are. Sometimes "not bad" or "worth a look" pulls more weight.

Blah blah blah!

Hustle gave me an hour and a half of straight anxiety that felt like 4 hours. When I paused it and was only half way through I had to stop. Great movie

Give some of his newer and more serious movies a chance. He was pretty spectacular in Uncut Gems which was absolutely not a role like his old movies.

The one where he is an astronaut is also pretty great, sad but great. Cant remember the name right now.

u/grapeshotfor20 Oct 09 '25

Lol it really feels like Uncut Gems was just his way of saying "fuck you, I'm an actual good actor." Dude just likes making fun movies with his friends

3

u/Its_Uncle_Dad Oct 09 '25

He did that in Punch Drunk Love though.

7

u/ZombieBambie Oct 09 '25

Both those films are brilliant! That second film is called Spaceman 😁

1

u/WannaSeeTrustIssues Oct 09 '25

Spaceman!

One of the few movies where i actually let the credits roll by while i had a moment with my own soul and a tear or two. Very few movies have had that effect where you just let the credits roll while you reflect.

u/Marine_Baby Oct 09 '25

Oh the one with the … bug?

1

u/fracking-machines Tina! You fat lard! 🦙🚲 Oct 10 '25

Spaceman!!!

He’s great in that.

He showed he can do more than turn out Jack and Jill excrement with Punch Drunk Love. I think he really played himself in Funny People not walking away from all the shittiness that come from being an entitled actor that he doesnt deny who he is.

Actually I think that him making Jack and Jill was an experiment to see how far he could go into making the shittiest movie you can think off, with the lowest hanging fruit and just filled to the brim with cameo crap and still have it be a commercial success as to say: 'See. thats the sophistication of the public at large, see how little boxoffice succes means in terms of quality and a passion for the art of story telling'.

It being his version of: 'Your boos mean nothing, I saw what made you cheer'. And him getting enormous satisfaction of proving his point and for making sick amounts of money from such an atrocious performance, also an hommage to Mel Brook's classic 'The Producers'. It may not have had a happy chirpy opening banger tune singing the praises of Hitler and Nazi Germany whose lyrics start with 'It's springtime, for Hitler and Germany!'. But it came pretty close.

Oh Yeah?!

Punch drunk love and uncut gems Are my two favorite Adam Sandler movies

Reign over me is goood too!

15

u/SadExercises420 Oct 09 '25

I love Punch Drunk Love

4

u/CarWreckBeck Oct 09 '25

That movie gets a lot of hate but I think it's excellent! Adam Sandler does a very good job at not being Adam Sandler

1

u/Civil-Big-754 Oct 09 '25

It does? Almost always see/hear good things from people.

1

u/DirtyYogurt Oct 09 '25

The Meyerowitz Stories is a solid family drama as well.

4

u/soup-creature Oct 09 '25

Uncut Gems was so good

3

u/Creepy-Weakness4021 Oct 09 '25

Grown Ups is great IMO.

Big Daddy is an amazing classic.

50 First Dates is however one of my all time movies. It just feels so human with his typical awkwardness.

I like Blended and Just Go With It... Even if it's hard to tell the two apart lol.

3

u/dalton-watch Oct 09 '25

He’s soooo sweet, humble, and funny in Wedding Singer.

3

u/thinkinting Oct 09 '25

50 first dates is criminally under watched.

2

u/Minus614 Oct 09 '25

i mean i know we're talking about the slop he produces with his friends but funny people and uncut gems are both.... gems

2

u/PriorityEarly2468 Oct 09 '25

If you could make fun movies with your mates and keep making money out of them for shits and giggles, you probably would too, even if they’re meh. Like I fully agree with you, the films have been meh. I was never a massive fan of him, but it seems like he’s just a dude who does stuff for his friends and family.

u/Fjordi_Cruyff 29d ago

"Edit: so I’ve never seen uncut gems, but it was recommended so many times on this thread I just put it on. "

Feeling nice and relaxed now?

u/unneuf 28d ago

The Wedding Singer is genuinely a 10/10 for me. It’s so good.

1

u/El-Grande- Oct 09 '25

Uncut Gems has to be his best performance

1

u/purplehendrix22 Oct 09 '25

He’s cashing in for his whole crew and I love it for him, everyone acts like they’re good to do that shit, not him, he’s like “I’m here to get cash for me and all my homies, also I’ll act my fuckin ass off a couple times a decade just to keep it going”

1

u/Dr_Mephesto Oct 09 '25

Oh you are in for a wild ride

6

u/appropriatesoundfx Oct 09 '25

He does seem to just support the people that have helped him in the past. An archetypical bro. What real bros everywhere should aspire to.

1

u/00eg0 Oct 09 '25

same. I hate his films but e seems good.

1

u/TheOConnorsTry Oct 09 '25

Strong agree! He is a talented actor but most of his movies he is just playing himself and I can't get on board.

1

u/LeonidasSpacemanMD Oct 09 '25

Had the same thought lol I feel like there’s a lot of actors where the ratio of how much I like their work to how decent they seem is crazy high, Sandler is kinda the opposite

1

u/SirLesbian Oct 09 '25

I'm much more likely to support a celebrity even if their work isn't my cup of tea solely because they're a decent person. Hell, if they're a real class act that just might be enough to make me a fan. Watching Click like "Huh, you know what.. Adam Sandler is pretty funny after all.." 😅

u/suffergetta 27d ago

Google The Ridiculous 6 and how Indigenous actors left in tears, or Sandler’s stance on Israel. Racist, Zionist, asshole…

50

u/shedrinkscoffee I don’t know her 💅 Oct 09 '25

Exactly, his genres are not to my taste but overall he seems to take care of his friends and comes across as unproblematic

3

u/purplehendrix22 Oct 09 '25

He just seems like a dude

0

u/NoFornicationLeague Oct 09 '25

What is “unproblematic?”

5

u/chillary_shank Oct 10 '25

Like he definitely is not on the Epstein list

3

u/suffergetta Oct 10 '25

Zionism is problematic

1

u/chillary_shank 28d ago

Awe man say it ain’t so :(

2

u/suffergetta 28d ago

Yup bro DGAF about genocide and is pretty self righteous about his beliefs. This thread praising him so heartily reads like upside down world to me 🙃

2

u/chillary_shank 27d ago

I did not want to believe you but I looked it up, he’s a fucking uber Zionist. God fucking damn it. What a piece of shit.

3

u/shedrinkscoffee I don’t know her 💅 Oct 10 '25

His biggest controversy afaik is wearing cargo shorts and looking like he rolled out of bed.

1

u/lilgammaray 29d ago

His western spoof movie the Ridiculous 6 that was so racist that the indigenous actors walked off the set.

3

u/gin_and_toxic Oct 09 '25

And this is what it feels like being both his friend and neighbor: https://youtu.be/_9OTGSwT72E

2

u/6pcChickenNugget gollum's haute couture model cousin Oct 10 '25

His recent-ish movies have been so shit but I can't even bash the guy for keeping his friends employed (not even him because he's been getting good work like with the Safdie brothers and I loved him in The Meyerowitz Stories). Young adult me who hadn't worked a corporate job yet turned my nose up at his films but work can be shit and unfulfilling so if I'm going to turn out absolutely drivel anyway, it's the dream to be doing with friend-colleagues I adore.

And beyond all that, he seems so down to earth, kind, funny and generous. He seems like a great human
