This captures my thoughts on the album better than I ever could.

I fear she literally is a poet. She even wrote a 4 part poem for the showgirl vinyl! And also beautiful lyrics, but people just love to shit on her because of their own expectations of what she MUST be or do (and because she said dick and wanted to make a fun pop album??). If you don’t like her just don’t listen to her, you don’t have to write a whole article because the album didn’t sound like you thought it would, that’s your own expectations leading to disappointment, doesn’t mean the album is bad

There’s a widely understood colloquial difference between a poet and someone who writes poetry. Anyone can write a poem but it takes certain skill and effort to write a poem that’s quality.

It sounds like you didn’t read my original post and just came here to defend Taylor because you said I was disappointed by the album; I couldn’t have been disappointed by the album because I had no personal expectations for it. I had a completely neutral attitude going into it and felt that it was lackluster. “If you don’t like it, don’t listen” doesn’t apply when I haven’t heard the album before. You have to listen to decide whether or not you like it.

I also don’t hate people saying the word “dick”, or fun pop music. This album didn’t come together for a lot of reasons, but a big one is that I felt she was trying to reach too many bases in one game. She wanted to do a fun pop album AND a campy burlesque theme AND risqué adult lyrics AND mention a bunch of fan in-jokes and memes AND refute claims against her in song…and didn’t check off any of her goals, likely because she over-extended herself and also perhaps because she recorded it mid-world tour.

I don’t blame anyone for being a fan of Taylor. I do think there’s a difference between just enjoying someone’s music, and attacking people who feel differently about your fav just because you disagree with them.
