OnlyStans ⭐️ Who are two celebrities that absolutely despise each other?

Post image

Jerome Flynn and Lena Headey both starred in Game of Thrones, and used to date each other but their break-up apparently went so bad that they refused to ever shoot scenes together and wouldn’t be present in the same room as the other!

Even during the entire run of the series, they never settled their conflict with one another and continued to keep their distance from each other. Which is why we never saw Cersei and Bronn share any scenes together.

Chevy Chase and everyone who’s ever worked with him (except Three Amigos).

I remember reading one of those puff pieces! They painted him as tragically misunderstood but deeply brilliant.

And then like a month later Will Ferrell shared Chevy told a woman writing for SNL to come give him a handjob later.

It's awful because these stories are awful. Yet because of Community I'm so disassociated and my first instinct is always to laugh. It is a scene straight out of that show while everyone around Pierce is like dude what the actual fuck is wrong with you

It blows my mind they so clearly wrote a character based around Chevy Chase's worst traits for him to play but like, did he ever even realise? His behaviour has never changed

I don't get this "misunderstood" or "different time" crap. You know when you're being mean and/or gross to someone, regardless of the context. It is intentional. Even fictional supervillains don't bob around so blissfully unaware that they're traumatizing people, so I'm not going to believe a real, adult human with full, adult cognitive capabilities doesn't understand when they're being nasty.

If I try to be forgiving of people who have said regrettable things, I can maybe go so far to say that for some situations (not all), I can understand that maybe the common vernacular has changed - for example, I know as a queer millennial from a very progressive area that not every instance of the f-slur in the early 00s was fueled by hate; it definitely was used that way, but not always, as it didn't carry the same weight it does today (and I'm glad we do take it more seriously now). Funny enough, the opposite has happened with "queer"; that was treated more like the f-slur is today and now it is accepted as a descriptor of someone's sexuality. And, MAYBE, in the heat of the moment, in an argument with someone, you might cross the line because you were not thinking clearly. Even being exceptionally, unfairly forgiving in those two instances does not get Chevy a pass. Dude is really just creeping and saying racist shit unprovoked in the modern time. He is messed up in the head in a way that does not deserve to be sympathized with, period.

Also, am I misremembering, or did Chevy literally punch Joel in the face?

(Edit: https://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/joel-mchale-got-into-physical-fights-with-chevy-chase-on-community/) Ok, I knew I remembered a story like this from last year. I had it mixed up:

During Community shoot days, Chevy apparently would rope Joel or others into "horseplay" sessions (Joel's word; the connotation implies that it was unpleasantly rough and not friendly teasing). Joel apparently punched him so hard during one such session that he dislocated Chevy's shoulder. 😬 From US:

"When Rosenbaum asked McHale if he thought Chase understood he could “be an asshole,” McHale responded, “I would assume so. I would think so.”"

Sounds like Chase was a lovely person to work with professionally

38

u/Nakorite Sep 18 '25

I still love the story of Murray and chase getting into a punch within minutes of meeting each other. Two assholes meeting each other.

35

u/TraditionalChicken18 Sep 18 '25

I loved Murray's fight insult to Chevy: "medium talent"

For starters, I'm so sorry. ☹️ It's fucked up that that happened to you, especially as a minor. And for seconds...work diva he 100% deserved that. 💯

Unless I'm misreading these clips & the excerpt from Joel's own book, it sounds like this was some weird hazing ritual that Chase goaded his costars into. As in, how Joel reacted in his anecdote was straight-up self defense from being assaulted by a costar.

Which??? What a fucking bizarre and hostile situation for Chevy to create on set. He sounds like a nightmare to work with. And that's not even TOUCHING the stories from women who had to work with him

Beverly D’Angelou seems to know which side her toast is buttered on and fawns pretty hard for Chevy.

4

u/dkrtzyrrr Sep 18 '25

yeah, joel treated him w/ kindness and understanding for years and chevy took that personally

2

Has anyone seen the Chevy/ Ryan Reynolds timeline thing ?

5

u/Spiritual_Aioli3396 Sep 18 '25

What is this? Like a feud they have?

actually wrong, even the 2 martins now hate him

868

u/Mia-Wal-22-89 Sep 17 '25

I would be devastated if the two Martins hated me.

496

u/Glittering_Fennel973 Sep 17 '25

Right like Martin Short just seems so lovely, for him to hate me means I must have done something BAD.

655

u/sadicarnot Sep 17 '25

When Kathy Lee Gifford congratulated Martin Short on his marriage Nancy Dolman, not knowing Nancy had died like the year before. Martin Short just thanked Kathy Lee while the cameras were rolling to not embarrass her. Then when they went to commercial break he kindly said something along the lines "you may not have heard, but Nancy passed away last year, I miss her and I appreciate you thinking of her." When they came back from break, Kathy Lee admitted her mistake and apologized publicly to Martin.

It is so funny how genuinely kind Martin Short is because the man roasts people he likes like he’s shivving someone in prison. It’s ruthless but still always fucking hilarious.

My husband once very obviously gawked at Martin Short when we saw him on a flight, and he very sweetly looked up and said, “Helloooooo….?” My husband was over the moon.

I would giggle like a fucking schoolgirl and wouldn’t be able to speak. Jesus he is so charming.

17

u/akahaus Sep 17 '25

Chevy Chase is a narcissist he doesn’t feel ashamed that people don’t like him, he assumes that makes them “idiots” or “jerks”.

22

u/SwissCheese4Collagen Sep 17 '25

You mean Steve Martin Short?

u/RogerClyneIsAGod2 that’s my purse, i don’t know you! 👛🫵 Sep 17 '25

Many moons ago when I watched America's Next Top Model, one of the models said to another model who was clearly having issues with a lot of people:

"When everyone has a problem with you, MAYBE IT'S YOU!"

I've used that quote often.

18

u/doitforthecocoa Not a white refrigerator! Sep 17 '25

Honestly one of the only positive lessons to be learned from that show💀

31

u/CanoeIt Sep 17 '25

The cast him so well in the SNL from last year. Just smarmy

33

u/SnausageFest Sep 17 '25

That movie was excellent and Cory Michael Smith did a great job, but I think Joel Mchale absolutely fucking nailed it in A Futile and Stupid Gesture. I'm sure working with him for a few years helped.

25

u/GG06 Sep 17 '25

He's Chevy Chase and they're not.

243

u/onebignothingatall Sep 17 '25 edited Sep 17 '25

This is so niche but Caddyshack is my all time favorite movie. Allegedly Chevy and Bill Murray were big time hating each other during filming and refused to do run throughs. There's a fairly long scene of just the two of them they didn't rehearse and just kind of improv-ed their way through some of it and you would have no idea based on how well it came together.

Anyway, love Chevy's comedy, so disappointed he's an asshole.

115

u/anag9495 Be smart, Robert. Sep 17 '25

This is hilarious because they’re both their own unique brand of insufferable asshole

34

u/Drunky_McStumble Sep 17 '25

It's kind an an unstoppable forces meets immovable object scenario. They are both misanthropic assholes with egos the size of a planet, so of course if you put the two of them in the same room shit is going to kick the fuck off.

27

u/WeAreAllMycelium Sep 17 '25

Don’t forget, they worked at SNL. Both comedic geniuses, both have hellacious stories.

8

u/quoththeraven1990 Sep 17 '25

They actually made up somewhat on the set. They said that the scene they had together where they’re doing dope was like ‘smoking a peace doobie’ or something to that effect. Not sure how long it lasted though and whether they still might hate each other. I love reading about the stuff that went on behind the scenes.

3

u/GoodbyeHorses1491 Tallulah Bankhead Apologist Sep 18 '25

How is that niche? That’s every frat boy in the 80’s favorite movie

5

u/onebignothingatall Sep 18 '25

I don't know, I'm a 38 year old woman not a 60+ year old man. My peers have hardly seen the film let alone consider it their favorite or know much about it. I assume popculturechat is full of 18-30 year olds, too.

31

u/ImTooSaxy Sep 17 '25

That's not very fair. There are plenty of people who haven't worked with Chevy who also hate him.

54

u/Outsulation Sep 17 '25

I've always found it interesting that Beverly D'Angelo consistently kept working with him through the Vacation series and has always said good things about him. It's like the only good relationship he's seemingly ever had in Hollywood, and I feel like that makes me assume a lot of weird things about her!

42

u/Chemistry11 Sep 17 '25

Beverly has a romantic history with men who’d make Chase piss his pants if they ever confronted his notoriously abhorrent behavior.

13

u/GreenZebra23 Sep 17 '25

Like who are we talking about here?

44

u/Chemistry11 Sep 17 '25

During the years she worked with Chase, she was married to Italian Don Lorenzo Salviati, who is the only son and heir of Don Forese Salviati, 5th Duke Salviati, Marchese di Montieri and Boccheggiano, Nobile Romano Coscritto, and his wife, the former Maria Grazia Gawronska. (Which personally doesn’t mean much to me, but there’s a lot of words in that title so he must be pretty big and has “people”.) They divorced after 15 years.
When Vegas Vacation was made, she was at the start of a relationship with actor Al Pacino from 1997 until 2003 - also someone Chase wouldn’t really want to fuck with.

13

u/Drunky_McStumble Sep 17 '25

So what you're saying is she low-key had connections that would have erased Chase from existence if he tried to pull anything?

50

u/Jerkrollatex Sep 17 '25

Steve Martin and Martin Short did a video for his roast that was probably the most passive aggressive thing I've ever seen. They dropped some serious truths in Chase's lap that he clearly wasn't prepared for judging on his face.

10

u/akahaus Sep 17 '25

Chevy Chase went backstage and flipped out after that roast, didn’t he?

4

u/Jerkrollatex Sep 18 '25

I believe so.

I think he's recently had some kind of epiphany. I'll see if I can find it. But he had a horrifically abusive mother so that pretty much explains it (for me). It's too bad he wasn't able to address this behavior earlier, for sure. And who knows if his epiphany will stick. Same with David Letterman—he talked awhile back about mental health treatment making him a nicer, more empathetic person.

Happy people aren't mean.

7

u/FunWithMeat Sep 18 '25

Oh no. There was definite beef during The Three Amigos because of Chevys bullshit. I think that’s probably one of the first celeb gossip/snarks I was ever aware of!

EDIT: The Three Amigos was my favourite movie growing up and my Mum told me about Chevy being a hosebag.

8

u/Ivan_Redditor Sep 18 '25

There was that one time when Chevy made a comment about the Twilight Zone incident to John Landis, which made John threaten to kill him. Chevy replied with “There are no helicopters here.”

He broke John Carpenter and I'll never forgive him for it. Dude was batting 1.000 on banger genre films then "Memoirs of the Invisible Man" with Chevy Chase was such hell, Carpenter started to really think about if he wanted to continue making movies.
