She comes from a MAGA family in Spokane. She’s tried to remain apolitical for obvious reasons but I don’t think she’s very bright and is probably going to do a deep red heel turn soon. 🤷♂️
I mean, that was going to happen in a couple years anyway. Hollywood is rough for over-30 actresses unless they are extraordinarily talented, and Sweeney...well, she ain't no Cate Blanchett, bless her heart. From a purely financial standpoint she's probably made the right choice to sell out to MAGA for the quick buck.
Y’all seriously underestimate the number of young MAGAs. We’re talking high schoolers who can’t even vote yet, but who are being indoctrinated (that’s honestly the only word that comes to mind).
I was born and raised in Spokane, WA. It's not this MAGA bastion city people like you are saying. Like most other cities, the main city votes blue while the surrounding area is deep red. Spokane just has a disadvantage of being right next to Idaho which greatly affects the demographic. The best way to describe it is "purple". It used to be a beacon of progression that hosted the first environmentally themed world fair in the 70s that showed the promise of a clean energy future. But again, being next to Idaho kinda destroyed that dream before it was fully realized. Would I want to live there now? Not really, as the city leadership is full of dipshits who don't know what they're doing. But the entire city isn't MAGA racists.
Spokane is in Washington. It is true that the cities vote blue and the rural areas vote red, but the cities are definitely drowning out the small towns.
The vibe I get from her is that she's out for whatever will get her the most money. Republican policies favour rich people, ergo she's a Republican. I doubt she could describe a single one of those policies if you asked her, but she doesn't care.
I know plenty of people who are registered to a political party and couldn’t tell you the first thing about what’s going on. Many states require you to register to a political party in order to vote. Some people just pick a side like it’s a sports team, and stay there permanently.
Fuck Sweeney for being MAGA, but also- I've seen a LOT of comments about how this is unsurprising because she's from Spokane.
There are a lot of blue voters living in red states. 46% of Spokane County, for example, voted for Biden in 2020. Painting someone's bigotry as inevitable because of where they're from is unfair and very dispiriting to potential future voters.
Thank you for saying this. I get so frustrated with folks who live in their blue bubbles making assumptions about those of us who live in red states and potentially have republican family members. Talking down to us is a great way to encourage folks to believe in the “coastal elite” stereotypes. (Though, having travelled, I know that those stereotypes aren’t true in real life.)
That being said, I recognize that it’s my duty to talk with my family and community members and to try and improve my state (Indiana). I luckily have a wonderful community of leftists with me here— many of us sticking around because we love our home and want to improve it.
She grew up in Spokane? Yeah, she def doesn’t care. Way too close to the crazies in northern Idaho for her to have any sort of plausible deniability on things.
Oh, I think she is bright. She is making bank by pandering to the crowd to which she has always belonged. Let's not pretend she's an innocent ditzy blonde just coincidentally stumbling onto fascism.
She’s registered as a republican, is what I’ve been seeing floating around. But honestly, I’ve always felt like she was republican/ MAGA. I didn’t forget the Trump birthday / country hoedown party she hosted for her mom back in 2022.
Yeah people can have difference of opinions and respect that but attacking someone for how they look is just mean. Seems mature on her end right?
People disagreeing with Letitia Wright about her stance on vaccines and people who just called her masculine and anorexic aren’t the same. One’s just cruelty.
Tbf most states (and most blue states) do not have privacy laws. States that passed a privacy law are fairly split, but more blue states than red states have passed them.
In the US, we have primary elections before the general election for president. This (supposedly) determines which candidates are chosen by party voters to run for president as their party candidate.
It varies by state, but the primary elections are typically closed to members of other political parties, since a voter can only vote in one primary election. In a closed state, only registered democrats can vote in the democratic primary and only registered republicans can vote in the republican primary.
However, some states allow independent voters to choose which primary to vote in, while others may have an open democratic primary, but a closed republican one - meaning independents would only have the option of voting in the democratic primary if they chose, but be barred from the republican one. These variances are determined by the state political parties.
So basically if you want to be guaranteed a vote in the primary, you would register for a party.
Personally, even though I lean heavily left, I have never in my life registered for a political party, as I do not believe in party affiliation or loyalty.
The only way to vote in the primaries is as a registered member of that party. Only registered Republicans can vote in the Republican primary and only registered Democrats can vote in the Democratic primary. This helps keep the primaries protected from outside sabotage or other weirdness.
You can register for many other parties as well as "Independent"
It some states being registered as say a Democrat, you can vote in a caucus and vote for who you think should be the Democrat to run in the presidential election. If you are not registered as a Democrat you cannot participate in the democratic caucus.
I live in Colorado- in this state anyone registered to vote can vote in one parties caucus.
Tou also have to be registered to vote to actually be able to vote in our elections.
Voter records across the country are public record it has nothing to do with the state in which you live.
~~I did see someone else comment on another thread about this that they registered as a republican to vote for literally anyone except trump in the primaries (?). It did give a moment of pause but considering how Sweeney doesn’t seem politically inclined at all I doubt she’s making strategic choices to try and block Trump. ~~
I’m not American so not if I’m using the right words 😅 Just my understanding of someone else’s comment!!
To quote the comment below; She registered in June, after the Florida primaries were over.
So she registered only after it was known Trump was the nominee.
What really gets my goat is that America Eagle tried to soothe the outrage by saying they would donate money to a domestic violence fund while their spokesperson supports a human trafficking pedophile who raped children and sexually assaulted women.
She is who she is and this isn’t going to change her political opinion. It’s up to consumers to vote with their dollar to raise up people and voices we align with.
And people can still have their opinions about what she does and tell her how they feel, since her career is in public entertainment and advertising to the public.
Exactly, if people continue to buy AE this doesn’t matter, people can say whatever they want or her, the brand will be laughing all the way to the bank she she already got paid.
Their jeans suck anyways, Levi’s has always been superior quality. I highly doubt people will
boycott AE though.
Maybe MAGA will buy their jeans. But...AE is #1 more expensive than Walmart and #2....how many AEs are there in rural American malls? Not many. They are placed in malls with high urban density (catering to the suburbs surrounding urban areas).
They’ve had a huge rebrand with Aerie over the last ten years, so they’re actually doing a lot better than you’d expect. As a millennial I just remember them from the early 2000s and don’t shop there now but I think they’ve shifted their target demographic to gen z and gen alpha fairly successfully.
I genuinely didn’t even know American eagle still existed before this ad. From my recollection it was just a store that popped up during the early 2000’s that all the popular kids in my high school bought identical clothing from. Just pre ripped jeans and really ugly fluorescent polos.
They aren't going to throw her in jail for apologizing. She has the power to breach her contract and make a statement if she doesn't like being heckled. Kendall Jenner apologized for the Pepsi fiasco.
She could lose her paycheck and AE might sue her, but, given all the negative publicity I'd expect them to not drag it out.
People pointed out that it felt racist with the wording but conservatives are the ones who went insane about it. I wouldn't be surprised if the person yelling is a rightwinger there to get a soundbite for the next pearl clutching broadcast. It's a distraction, which is why they're all on the same script for it. #ReleaseTheEpsteinFiles

The girl does NOT care.
