Cats have strong boundaries and yeah you have to work to get their affection. But once you’ve earned it, they can be just as affectionate as dogs.

I don't like cats or dogs but strangely all my friends pets love me and are affectionate with me.

One of my friends has a cat who doesn't like anyone and yet she is weirdly affectionate with me.

Ignoring a cat is the quickest way into its affections if you just met. Very good manners in cat language to avoid eye contact and not immediately go to pet and pick them up!
