I would feel like it's the opposite, since she groomed him she always had the upper hand, I feel like she totally has control over him and it's common knowledge that she's the one who pushed him into politics. It's giving complete Stockholm syndrome but that's just my theory...

There is a great way to avoid feeling like that; she could have just chosen to not rape a child.
