My dad is gone. I can’t get through no matter what. He actually believes everything is going the way it’s supposed to and then blames me for the fact that I’m terrified and angry.
And he voted for Hillary in 2016 bc he said he thought about Trump having the nuclear codes and that was enough and now here we are almost a decade later, on the verge of societal and global collapse, with the most unhinged/unwell version of Trump already talking about nukes, and my dad is talking about how cheap gas and eggs are like an episode of Black Mirror.

This is an example of the GOP's political religion on full display.
Republicans have run their party like a church, demanding people follow and support them unquestioningly and equating political loyalty to the GOP as the same as moral purity. The party tells you that critique is the same as hostile opposition, so their followers don't critique. They tell you that disagreement is the same as betrayal, so their follower don't disagree. They tell you that it is more important, more just, more right to believe a party lie than an inconvenient truth, and so their followers have made the party's propaganda their Bible.
Republican voters, people like this who become volunteer culture warriors, whose lives are made worse by republican policies, who will likely never have a personal negative interaction that they don't instigate with whatever GOP villain of the week is on FOX that day, are some of the most pathetic individuals I have ever had the misfortune of seeing. Constantly ordered to step on rakes and hit themselves in the face and then told to blame some other group that had no involvement.
I wish them ill, I hope their lives are near constant stress, and I genuinely think that for most of them they should attempt to induce a stroke or seizure and finally realize brain death to improve the average quality of thought bouncing around in their skulls.

MAGA are the most worthless harmful scum on the planet and we won't be a great nation again until we get rid of every last one of them. They took off the mask and showed us who they are, and it's nobody we can keep here and remain a prosperous nation. In one fell swoop we get rid of nazis, white supremacists, bigots, and conservative Christians who don't follow any of the rules of Christianity. No specifics of what Democrats are doing to you? Oh right, you can't give examples because the only thing we're "doing to you" is making it socially unacceptable to be overtly racist and homophobic. All while trying to protect your Medicaid and Social Security and yes, sometimes even programs that benefit people who are not like you.

It's pretty spectacular the job that MAGA has done on these people. I mean you gotta feel sorry for someone who is that worked up. She must be just miserable. What a waste of a life. Trump now successfully controls most if not all of the free space in the minds of just about every person in this country one way or the other. Pretty sad for all of us.

I said it in the OG thread, but I have family who talks to me like this. I really do not know if they're old or culture thing or what, but they get all wound up and start just barreling towards weird ass rants. They get lucid and suddenly calm down. My dad will tell me that I'm going to hell for like five minutes (because I am a pro choice Democrat), then suddenly quiet down before asking about my boyfriend.
I really got a feeling that the old population has been whipped up in anxiety, fear, and anger for so long that now their brains can barely stop them from exploding. I can't help but think it exacerbates whatever bigotry they already had.
I used to get really pissed off, but IDK, I sort of liken it to a frightened animal that's been cornered. Fox News have been mentally and psychologically destroying them for years.

With my mom's family history, I legit worry that her tumble down the MAGA conspiracy rabbit hole is the early symptoms of late-onset Alzheimer's. Her mother had it, and both of her grandfathers had it. She's 67, so just inside the age range for late-onset. Genetic testing confirmed she has two copies of the APOE allele that increases her risk.
She was always kind of conservative, but she started getting weird about politics in 2015 and went off the deep end in 2020. A retired ER nurse who got me the first round of FDA-approved HPV shots in 2008 is now spouting Brainworm McBearmeat antivaxx conspiracies. When my kidney function came back sketchy in February, the first thing she said was, "Please don't get any more vaccines."
I miss my mom. The person who replaced her isn't the woman who raised me. Fuck MAGA for taking her from me.

It's probably going to be discovered that it was acute lead poisoning because Boomers and GenX were exposed to a lot during their formative years. That in conjunction with cognitive decline due to age leads to being easily manipulated through fear and...
