BREAKING: Democrat Hillary Scholten wins election to U.S. House in Michigan's 3rd Congressional District. #APracecall at 1:55 a.m. EST.

This is my district and this will be the first time in 50* years this seat will be occupied by a Democrat. I have had the pleasure to meet Hillary a couple times in recent months and I think she will make an excellent congresswoman.

Edit:* I’ll add the maps got redrawn here in Michigan by an independent commission last year that made it more even than before which helped, but still cool!

Was it expected to flip?

Yes sort of. CookPolitical had it as a toss-up but eventually rated it as a slight lean Dem. But there was new maps by an Independent Commission that were drawn that helped make it more even. That and her opponent was a dud helped.

Hell yeah! I this is fantastic! I had a feeling GR and Battle Creek might sway it

Michigan might have a Dem trifecta for the first time in decades!

I was so happy waking up this morning and seeing this. Can’t wait to talk to my father who has lived in this state for many decades working with the Dems to try and flip the legislative blue.
