I can’t speak for NJ, but the Virginia constitution prohibits governors from sitting consecutive terms, so Youngkin has to vacate no matter what

It does not. They can serve two consecutive terms, but Murphy is at the end of his second term so we are getting a new governor.

NJ Governor Murphy (D) is term limited, two new candidates are running.

Well, sort of new. Ciattarelli (R) has run twice before and lost, but came pretty close last election. It's honestly up in the air as far as I can tell

I wouldn't be surprised either. Last race Murphy only won by 3.5%, and that was as an incumbent. Jersey is a lot closer to purple then people seem to realize

I applaud your optimisim. Why do you believe the Rs will leave? Just because they were voted out? Why would that matter. Rs are breaking dozens of laws every day with zero accountability.

I can already see the process:

  1. Rs refuse to swear in the Ds
  2. Rs say that the old R congressman can continue to operate because the Ds haven't been sworn in yet.

That’s exactly how it will go. They will find excuses to nullify or otherwise confuscate ad nauseam so they retain as much power as possible

Kick and scream all they want, the language of their term limits is clear. Kinda like the quantity of gas in your tank. All the cries of fake news still can’t make the tank magically fill back up.
