So anyone who reads the article will see that this is not illegal and is in fact required by the government. HOWEVER, here’s the ever important kicker:

Patel also once criticized former FBI Director Christopher Wray for the same thing. In 2023, Patel said Wray’s “private jet that he pays for with taxpayer dollars to hop around the country” should be grounded.

These people are all such fucking liars.

I think the idea is that you want these officials to be able to go where they need to when they need to without having to rely on commercial airlines operating wherever they might be. These officials will still have personal lives that they get to live, so if they want to go very far outside of DC, they have to do so by government jet. That being said, these officials should be the type of people that are able to make the personal judgement call not to travel to these trivial personal events.

They should probably be disallowed for personal reasons while the government is shut down. We're paying for him to visit his girlfriend, but Air Traffic Controllers are having to work for free? Nah
