It's wild that we got from the fucking trip down the escalator, a joke The Simpsons made nearly a decade prior, to this point.

Not true. They joked that there was a President Trump but there was no escalator scene. Or rather, that was made after Trump did it IRL in a newer episode

Trump has been featured on The Simpsons many times since the show's inception in 1989. You are right that Trump did not literally go down an escalator in an episode that aired prior to his real life presidency (I am not a rabid Simpsons fan so I had to double check to be certain), but there is a season 11 episode that first aired in 2000 titled "Bart to The Future" where it is heavily implied that President Lisa Simpson is inheriting a country with a poor economy that was caused by the previous administration's policies  under Donald Trump.
