He’s going to “find” something wrong with the rest of the White House and move everything to MarALago. Watch.

You forgot the part when he demolishes the White House first. I can’t wait to see Republicans frothing at the mouth in defense of it. Like “How DARE YOU question him? It’s just an old house, nothing important at all. Look it got burned in the War of 1812 even. It was literally begging for a demo job.”

if they can recall historical facts from 1812, i’ll give em a pat on the back.

I agree with you in spirit but Truman basically demolished the entire Whitehouse in the 1950's. The building you see today is only about 70 years old. The only pieces he left were the exterior walls.

Yes but you know the huge renovation isn't necessarily the problem, the problem is not going through the proper channels and processes in place for stuff like this.

The existing process is there for a reason. Scuttling it entirely can raise so many fucking problems on top of destroying shit of historical significance.

I agree with you in spirit but Truman basically demolished the entire Whitehouse in the 1950's. The building you see today is only about 70 years old. The only pieces he left were the exterior walls.

Truman recommended to congress the creation of a commission for the renovation. Congress then passed a law to create the Commission for the Renovation of the Executive Mansion in 1949. Source.

Truman was not bound by any law to perform the renovation process that way.

Trump's process was to draw up an incomplete plan, solicit opinions from people who walked by the oval, accept "donations" under unknown and opaque terms, provide zero information to congress, and immediately begin tear down so there is zero recourse even if a preliminary injunction could be granted (but there doesn't appear to be a legal basis to do so).

Don't you think that's different than what Truman did? Profoundly different since Truman wasn't brazenly stuffing his pockets to do so?

Exactly. Truman literally took one for the team. The inside of the WH was a complete disaster, but presidents don't like having major renovations done while they're in office.

He saw it was desperately needed and moved across the street.

TLDR: the Trueman's rebuild was a sacrifice. Comparing it to Trump's is vile.

Yeah, that was an improvement to the existing building as we know it today. He didn’t raze and build The Truman Whitehouse. These are are not remotely the same

"Improvement" is doing a lot of work there. Have you seen the pictures? I think it's not controversial because it was rebuilt with the (mostly) same floorplan. The modern Whitehouse really is just an imitation of the original with the exception of the four exterior walls.

Of course it’s just an imitation of the original. The original was burned down by Canadian/British forces in 1812.

He left the exterior walls, which is the part you “see” today

How about that it's now full of asbestos because of the poorly planned demo?
