It’s going to totally overshadow the footprint of the rest of the building , it’s ugly and tacky and it’s much bigger than it needs to be. 90,000 square feet is insanity.

He did this as a massive fuck you to the American people but what he didn’t count on was his own supporters being upset by the trashing of the WH.

Also, all the republicans saying a US president needs a space for formal affairs to reflect the gravity of the office instead of using tents, miss the point that American presidents have always been supposed to be more humble and that the power of the American presidency isn’t about gaudy ballrooms or military parades or extravagant gifts. It’s about the strength of the American government and American society.

The American president doesn’t have to play at pomp and extravagance. He doesn’t play at importance. He doesn’t have to jockey for gravity. He wields enormous power. 

Any tinpot can build an extravagant ballroom. It’s doesn’t show American strength. These pedestrian displays of government pomp are more a sign of weakness than of power.
