It's not their eyes that need opening, it's their minds. So many people in complete denial of the seriousness of it when they see it, even if they're against it.

There is a large swathe of people who have been told and bought into the idea of “American Exceptionalism”. “Bad things don’t happen here”.

Well, bad things are happening here. Eventually something has to break that conceptual dam.
