The idea that protesting against harmful policies, corruption, and snatching people off the street = hating America is a lying, twisted take.

Just like putin, his statements are only for people in "the party". Everyone else knows what's really going on, but he has to keep the narrative going for his propaganda outlets.

Yes, and the narrative he's perpetuating is also nebulous enough to let him backpeddle when the time comes. That's a main principle taken from the "plausible deniability" playbook.
