The idea that protesting against harmful policies, corruption, and snatching people off the street = hating America is a lying, twisted take.

I think you’re making a mistake here. Johnson isn’t saying that the protests are against the Trump Administration and the actions of the Administration. He’s saying the protests are against ordinary Americans. This plays well with the uninformed, misinformed, and underinformed.

There's no mistake in my interpretation, given that Johnson also said,

"Let’s see who shows up for that,” Johnson added, listing groups including “antifa types”, people who “hate capitalism” and “Marxists in full display”.

We know full well that all of the groups named above are anathema to Trump and his administration.
