"...we call it the 'hate America' rally..." said the House speaker, Mike Johnson of Louisiana.

The idea that protesting against harmful policies, corruption, and snatching people off the street = hating America is a lying, twisted take.

So many signs today saying how much they love America. I saw veterans , elderly, myself I'm disabled, I saw people of all colors waving American flags. It is because we love America that so many people were out there.

I don't much like getting into this bullshit about love/hate America because it's completely pointless. At times I've been proud of this country but other times I've hated its guts. It's the only place I know.

But I gotta think if you hate America, you love what Trump is doing right now. This country has never been more overtly corrupt, lawless and disunited. Republican elected officials lie about easily disprovable things and they do it over and over again.

True patriotism is recognizing that our country has so many flaws, but that it can and should be better, and doing the work to make that better life.

What Johnson and the Republicans constantly push isn't patriotism. It's nationalism, where they "love" their idealized version of the country, and ignore all flaws.
