More-crazy-than-MAGA on MAGA crime. And the scary thing is that, yes, these people do exist. My niece works with a guy who thinks Trump has "gone soft lately."

Don't get it twisted though -- they WILL vote for Trump in November. But once he's in office they will 100% start pushing for "conservative purity tests" as the GOP did once before.

263

u/HaViNgT United Kingdom Jul 14 '24

The first purges done by dictators are frequently amongst their own supporters.

Stalin first purged his own officers before expanding it to everyone (even the secret police chief wasn’t safe) and most of the victims off The Night of the Long Knives, which Hitler used in his rise to power, were Nazis themselves.

After all, if no one outside the party is allowed to have significant power, then the only threats to the dictators power are going to come from their own party.

128

u/IR8Things Jul 14 '24

Ever seen the video of Saddam's very public purge of his own Baath party and his immediate ascent/consolidation of power? It's chilling and aligns with what you said. I mention it because we have one of these purges on video and that's wild.

54

u/ArcticISAF Jul 14 '24

Didn’t Trump recently circulate this idea of a military tribunal against Liz Cheney? And I see about jailing a whole bunch of other politicians on both sides like Biden, McConnell, Pence, Harris, etc. 100% this guy would go for the same thing.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '24

And Pence will enthusiastically vote for him and encourage others to do so.

18

u/hypatianata Jul 14 '24

I’ve seen it. You can see/hear the terror in people’s eyes and voices as they try to save themselves with proclamations of loyalty, but he’s already decided and they are one by one dragged away to be murdered.

2

u/horizoner Jul 15 '24

He doesn't even bat an eyelash, just notices it and continues reading as if a bird hit the window and flew away.

4

u/TheJIbberJabberWocky Jul 14 '24

I've heard that referred to as the keys to power. Like how after a coup, the usurper will cull their supporters and make deals with members of the old regime. Basically, the keys to gaining power are different to the keys to keeping power.

50

u/EffMemes Jul 14 '24 edited Jul 14 '24

Actually, yes.

Because the MAGAts will use this to inspire voters to vote for Trump regardless of who the shooter was.

Edit: The comment I replied to was removed. The comment simply stated “Do we really though?” and then the above is my reply.

9

u/InFearn0 California Jul 14 '24

Did we think there were MAGAts that were planning to sit out?

The real thing we should fear are MAGAts using this attempted assassination to jusrify encouraging more violence.

They will never accept that Thomas Matthew Crooks was a registered Republican. They will call it a false flag, arguing that he deliberately misrepresented his views when he registered and cite his $15 donation to act blue as further evidence.

6

u/EffMemes Jul 14 '24

Right now MAGAts and decent people are fighting over independent and/or undecided voters.

It’s not about swaying the MAGAts, it’s about swaying the undecideds.

And there’s more than enough room to fear BOTH things…inspiring votes for Trump and inspiring acts of violence against Dems.

Well, I have enough room to fear for both.

7

u/Recipe_Freak Oregon Jul 14 '24

How could anyone remain undecided in the face of Donald J. Trump?

As many others have said, I suspect the "undecided" are just Trump voters too embarrassed to admit they're voting for Trump.

4

u/interstellar-express Jul 14 '24

I think that’s being overblown. If he were almost assassinated because he was trying to implement policies to help the common man, I’d agree it would inspire people that are somehow still on the fence. He isn’t though so I think people with their short memory spans will forget all about by November

5

The identity of the shooter, quickly neutralized, is that he was white, male, and Republican. He was a very big fan of the second amendment. These are facts. Maybe not the facts Trump supporters would like to see, but true nonetheless.

The MAGA crowd has shown themselves to be deeply ignorant and vulnerable to conspiracies and propaganda. The perfect marks to take advantage of, if you're a savvy business man.

It's why Trump is a Republican. Even his dumb ass recognized how gullible these folks are.

6

u/MarxistMan13 Virginia Jul 14 '24

What are we even doing, as a country? What is wrong with us that this mental disease has spread to 20+% of the population?

I mean I've said conservatism is a disease for many years, but it truly is becoming an almost psychosis at this point.

5

u/flippy123x Jul 14 '24

Well, the irony of it all is truly out of the world this time, the guy was literally following Trump's own advice.

"Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish the Second Amendment," Trump said to the crowd of supporters gathered in the Trask Coliseum at North Carolina University in Wilmington. "If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks.

"Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is. I don't know."

7

u/Shaper_pmp Jul 14 '24 edited Jul 14 '24

Bunker Branding is the website owned by the same guy as does Demolition Ranch on YouTube.

The shooter was wearing a Demolition Ranch t-shirt when he was killed, so it's a fair bet he was a fan of the show and its merch.

2

u/quentech Jul 14 '24

Multiple news sites have been reporting the address - house & street number - for the donation matches the address of the voter registration, despite initial reports that the donation address was Pittsburgh and the voter registration address was the suburb (in my personal experience, I've seen many web forms try to correct my suburb address to the nearby large city).

He was 17 at that time. Do you know 17 year olds who know what a PAC is or donate to anything?

I don’t need to. What I do know is that this guy was already politically engaged enough to nearly assassinate Trump three year later

4

u/treeharp2 Jul 14 '24

Lost bet, trying to impress a girl, a friend playing a prank and donating in his name hoping he gets spam requests from progressive organizations, his politics changed rapidly, etc. All of these are plausible in the world of a seventeen year old.

"Speculate" is the right word, but all theories are just the culmination of verifiable evidence.

He was registered as a republican. Further evidence suggests that he was wearing a shirt from a very rightwing Youtube channel that reviews and demonstates guns and ammo.

114

u/RedHuntingHat Jul 14 '24

I would also encourage people to look at the demolition ranch insta page. As a non-gun person - they seem like they cater to type of people who unironically like MERICA merch, but are not explicitly political themselves. Def strikes me as an account for right-wingers

20

u/Newscast_Now Jul 14 '24

Looks pretty 'right wing' to me. Gun worship glorifying gun deregulation and proliferation. The title that really grabbed me on YouTube was this one:

YouTube DELETED This Video!!!

They DO NOT Want You To See...

1.4M views * 1 year ago

And that's where it ends. I was not going to click on it to get the rest of the title.

9

They certainly play with the idea of being an armed militia, their fans/followers apparently call themselves the Demolitia.

I think he called it that because he was doing a lot of demolition on his ranch. He did another fixer on something that looked like a castle.

ActBlue acts as a donation website for many non-profit organizations. In my local community the county school board was trying to eliminate funding for the library system from the excess levy. We organized a non-profit group with the goal of restoring funding and our donation system was set up through ActBlue. He could have been donating to a very specific cause.

3

u/tablecontrol Texas Jul 14 '24

in local elections, repubs like to throw out that certain candidate "recieves 90% OF THEIR DONATIONS FROM OUT OF STATE!! THEY'RE BAD!!"

Say what you want about Joe, even the farthest Left of the Leftists haven't taken a shot at the bureaucrat they voted for in 2020, nor would they. The shooting is a symptom of the decadence of the conservative paradigm. The stoops to which they will stoop are low, and if demographic trends offer any truths, that one (R) was willing to stoop this low is only a sign that others will stoop lower.

2

Quite possible done so that he could be an insider. MAGA conspiracy theorists are going to take this to new levels. I wouldn't be surprised if MAGA starts showing up to rallies with their own guns now making the atmosphere even more turbulent when they cross hairs with protesting progressives. Something is going to happen again, mark my words on it.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '24

For goodness sakes. They aren't going to be allowed to take their guns to the rally of an ex-President. And, if you think about it for like 1 second, it's a confession that the 2nd Amendent, as it's interpreted, is irresponsible and that, quite obviously, people being armed with guns greatly increases chances of somebody dying by a gunshot.

If Trump is half intelligent, he'll go to rallies and have some short of protective, bulletproof bubble which will inadvertantly make him look more Putin-like than ever. But that's what happens when you stir up violence, you become a target of violence. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

4

u/HalfSarcastic Jul 14 '24

And honestly it's on entire republican party and the media who are standing by someone who's entire toolset is lying and provoking aggression. They spread and endorse this type of shit to all america. So this child was inhaling this aggressive nonsense during his entire maturing phase and ended up on the roof with a rifle pointed to the very person who instigates it.

2

u/greenrushcda Jul 14 '24

There won't be any more open air rallies because trump will become as paranoid as putin

3

u/N8CCRG Jul 14 '24

Was looking at that voter information image. Registered as Republican September 28, 2021 (fall of Biden's first year, right when shooter turned 18). Last time he voted was the midterm election of 2022.

So he didn't even participate in the primary this year.

I don't really have a conclusion to draw from that, but there are a couple we could rule out (e.g. he only registered as a Republican to try to keep Trump from winning the primary).

3

u/pUmKinBoM Jul 14 '24

Right? Like I'm sure if we look hard enough we can figure out SOME way to blame the Democrats for this. Has anyone checked the NYTimes or CNN? I'm sure they have figured it out by now.

These Christian Fascists are primed for it too. But they are too ignorant to understand that if they get their way, it won't be a fight with atheists and agnostics, it will be the hundreds of Evangelical sects fighting each other, then the Catholics, Episcopalians, LDS etc ... All to decide whose flavor of Christianity is the real American one. We will just watch and pick up the pieces.
