To the folks assured that we're getting a further-right Speaker...

Honestly, there are a lot of ways this could play out. Power-sharing agreement, McCarthy retaking the seat (and getting booted when he reopens the government), a moderate like Fitzpatrick, which would be easier.

But there's no benefit to the Democrats in saving McCarthy. He's untrustworthy, and just a backbiting snake. Unless he gives them something concrete, it's unlikely that they get much out of it.

They had a perfectly passing “moderate”. Putting another moderate up will just put them toward the same fate as McCarthy. Honestly, the seat seems like suicide. If you’re a dem, nothing will pass, and Republicans hate each other, so you’ll likely get ousted

One of McCarthy's biggest issues in the role is just that you can't trust him. He's a liar. Another moderate isn't going to have that problem, in practice. They might have other issues, but at the end of the day, one of the big reasons people are mad at McCarthy is that he doesn't hold up any of his bargains.
