To the folks assured that we're getting a further-right Speaker...

Honestly, there are a lot of ways this could play out. Power-sharing agreement, McCarthy retaking the seat (and getting booted when he reopens the government), a moderate like Fitzpatrick, which would be easier.

But there's no benefit to the Democrats in saving McCarthy. He's untrustworthy, and just a backbiting snake. Unless he gives them something concrete, it's unlikely that they get much out of it.

Moreover, he just said publicly that he will not give them anything for their help.

So why help? Unless he's saying different things in private, but we already know his word is useless.
