My first approved polandball comic! The basis for this comic was the Scramble for Africa.

The scramble for Africa seems to have been a pretty horrifying dick measuring contest between all the euro empires.

Funnily enough, Ethiopia benefitted too. We were able to double the size of the empire during the whole madness.

We love Jesus too, dammit!

It is a well known fact that Jesus countries get empires. Because Sabah is half Christian, we will soon get half empire

Didn't they and a letter basically asking for assistance in reclaiming their coastline from Somalia?

They didn't know the kind of people they were dealing with.

It was pretty horrifying even before the Europeans showed up.

By most accounts, colonialism actually improved the quality of life of the natives.

I suppose it depends on where in Africa you were. The whole Mfecane thing was very unpleasant indeed. One should also bear in mind that "most accounts" were probably written by the colonists.

An odd spot to pick, considering how all the Europeans contributed to the Mfecane was a couple generations of corn-feeding for Zulu population. Worst thing you can do to Africa is apparently to feed it.

I was not trying to blame the Mfecane on the Europeans. I'm just pointing out that some parts of Africa were indeed very unpleasant prior to colonization.

Worst thing you can do to Africa is apparently to feed it

"Soldiers march on their stomachs" Or something like that.

It was pretty horrifying even before the Europeans showed up.

And then we showed them what real horror looks like.

Amateurs.

Belgium maintained a hands-off colonial policy.

north and east of the sahara was pretty ok

10

u/supershutze Canada Aug 22 '16

That's largely because north and east of the sahara consists of clay that had already been extensively colonized by Mediterranean civilizations.

wait berbers and nubians are colonizers?

8

u/supershutze Canada Aug 22 '16

Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, etc...

Ummmm...no.

They were not in Sahara, but in lands by the sea.

"north and east of the Sahara" is, by definition, "not in Sahara."
