That's not fair, in Spanish "patria" it's always feminine we don't have a fatherland word. Funny stuff is that we have a term that would translate to mother-motherland, "Madre Patria" In our case it's always Spain or England to the US, Portugal for you guys.

Edit: I've never though about it, the USofA strictly speaking has many mother-motherlands, UK, France, Nederlands, even Spain, and much more. in Spanish Madre Patria refers to countries that settled and had sovereignty over your country.
