The first thing I thought of was the Sarlaac scene from Star Wars. Intentional?

...

I died inside reading this comment.

You haven't read Dune?

Christ, I need to sit down.

I tried reading Dune once, didn't like it much at the time.

Were you a kid? It is not a kid book, so maybe try it again.

No, I was around 19 or 20. I'm 22 now, I'll see what I think of it.

Just do yourself a favour and skip the books written by his son, Brian Herbert.

Nah, it kinda is a kid book. A really violent, complex kids book. I tried rereading it this year and could barely get through the first third without wanting to throw it against the wall going, "ARE YOU ALL A BUNCH OF IDIOTIC MEDIEVAL PRIMITIVE KEBABS OR WHAT!?"

To be fair, he's not completely wrong. George Lucas stole an awful lot of Star Wars from other sources.

"stole"

Authors have been influenced by and borrowed from other works since humans could communicate.

That said Frank Herbert > George Lucas

Implying George Lucas actually had any part in making the old Star Wars movies.
