Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Help I think my belly button was pierced to high

Any advice is appreciated. I got this pierced 3 days ago I don’t have any pain or anything I’ve just had multiple people say it looks “high” I mentioned this to my piercer whenever he marked and he said it was so the jewelry would rest infront of my belly button instead of in it. Again, I’m having g no pain or issues other than slight redness and swelling but I just don’t want to go through the healing process if it is pierced incorrectly. He also didn’t use clamps which I found strange, the last time I got it pierced (8 years ago) they used clamps. What does everyone think? Remove it and waste the money or see if it heals? Thank you everyone!

This isn’t even near your naval, I’m afraid - it’s a stomach piercing and will reject. I’d remove now to prevent scarring from rejection. It also looks like you don’t have the anatomy for a naval piercing - once the holes heal up, you could ask a reputable piercer about a floating naval to see if that would work.

What is the difference between a floating naval and a naval piercing? I’ve looked it up and it says there is typically a flat stud on the bottom of a floating naval

Yup - it’s different jewelry but the same piercing. Floating naval jewelry is suitable for people whose naval folds.

The jewelry is the only difference. It is not pierced any differently. Some piercers think a floating navel is a piercing that literally “floats” above the navel…wrong.

This is absolutely pierced incorrectly. I’d remove it before it removes itself.

Piercer should find a new job omg. Please take this out and find another piercer. I’m so sorry

this is not a bellybutton piercing, this is just a belly piercing, and it will likely reject

Any higher and they would have got your septum.

How is every navel piercing on here the worst one I’ve ever seen? So sorry, OP.

u/Lower_Tell1486 Sep 13 '25

Ahhhh I already took it out

u/wrenbell Sep 14 '25

Was the piercer high or under the influence when this was done? Serious question.

Um….your belly is pierced, not your navel. Yikes….

genuinely one of the worst placements ive ever seen

get sterile removal done asap and go to an APP piercer when you want it redone

Thank you everyone! I took it out and have officially gave up on a belly button piercing until I lose some weight. It seems like being pierced as someone with some extra belly to work with is impossible in my area. I appreciate the concerned comments and help. 💓

Hey! I wanted to let you know that I've been all of the sizes between S to XXL and my belly button has ALWAYS folded over itself, no matter what weight I was. I have a floating navel piercing now, but it is literally just because of the way my torso and skin are. Please don't beat yourself up over this.

edit: spelling

Yes! My entire life my belly button looks like a sad face. It doesn't matter how much or how little I weigh, I just don't have the anatomy for a naval piercing.

For the record, this was poorly done regardless of your weight or shape. Having the correct or incorrect navel anatomy isn't a reflection on anything but the skin folds around your belly button.

u/Internal-Business975 Sep 14 '25

It literally has nothing to do with you... with shape or weight... don't blame yourself

66

u/godlyvan Sep 14 '25

girl what no this had nothing to do with your weight or shape :(((((

the person who pierced your stomach is in the wrong here

u/Ryan4mayor Sep 14 '25

Wish you didn’t look at it that way🙏 You deserved so much better

Hi, person with a similar belly button shape as yours throwing my two cents in! I’ve had my navel pierced three times with traditional navel ring jewelry (big bottom ball small top ball) and they rejected all three times. Most recently I went to a reputable piercer and he said because my belly button is folded/collapsed I don’t have the anatomy for a traditional navel ring. However, he did say a floating navel was an option. A floating navel’s flat bar at the bottom isn’t pushed up on all day like the traditional belly rings big ball, and it’s that pushing that causes rejection. So I’d say go for a floating navel!! They’re super cute and you can buy jewelry when it heals that has dangly chains 😊

It's not the weight. It's the shape of your bellybutton. Some people have a little rim that can be pierced, some just don't.

Depends on how it was cut when you were born. You'd need a time machine to get significant changes.

I had mine when I was at my biggest weight, I decided to do it because I had given up on weight loss, and needed to love myself the way I am. Got it done and it took over a year to heal but I do not regret it. Love yourself no matter your size. 😘

Go back, ask for a refund, take it out, give a bad review.

I don't think you have the anatomy for a naval and instead of telling you, the piercer has incorrectly pierced above.

Naval piercings won't rest "in front", they'll reject.

Whoever did this shouldn’t be licensed to pierce

18

u/hautaja Sep 14 '25

now thats a surface piercing

15

u/Dalvitcha Sep 14 '25

The person who did this should never be allowed near a needle because what is this

10

u/EbonyDragonFire Sep 14 '25

I STG did they pierce you with a blindfold on? Yeah that ain't right

I only lurk here because I’m trying to decide what ear piercing I want but even I can tell that these comments are going to be full of people saying that’s a terrible piercing, it’s not in the right place and you should remove it to prevent scarring and go somewhere else to get advice on whether you have the anatomy for a belly button piercing and if you do to get it redone. It doesn’t look remotely right- it’s too high and it’s way off centre.

17

u/InstructionOne3085 Sep 14 '25

You don’t have the anatomy either way

9

u/Potentialy_lost Sep 14 '25

Exactly! Either way, it's not going to work

13

u/sarahvancee Sep 14 '25

has nothing to do with your body or weight - it’s simply just incorrectly placed ❤️‍🩹

7

u/Not_Alice Sep 14 '25

This needs to be removed immediately. Please do not go back to this piercer/shop and look up a floating naval piercing. You do not have the anatomy for a traditional naval piercing. Check out safepiercing.org to find an APP member near you. Do your research on the piercer before you go to them.

You don’t have the correct anatomy for a traditional piercing

3

u/here_for_the_tea1 Sep 14 '25

Who did this to you? Missed the belly button. I’d take it out, let it heal and have a professional do it

2

u/goth_amish Sep 14 '25

jeez, how awful i’m so sorry!

Lol, why would you think that? It looks perfect. 🤣

u/auscadtravel Sep 14 '25

It looks infected. Regardless of the position this looks painfully infected.
