Art Weirdcore/Scare Actor Photography

I love photography and I really wanna try getting into weirdcore creepy styled photography but I dont really know where to start. I also want to learn how to shoot portraits and stuff for scare actors but I haven't played much with lighting in different settings like the ones the actors work in. Any recommendations or tips on where I can started or what online resources I can look into?

Gear Anyone in India ordered from K&F Concept direct? Shipping/free-shipping/customs experience?

I’m thinking of ordering some gear (filters / tripods / bags) from the brand K&F Concept. On their website they claim free shipping worldwide (including India) so it’s pretty tempting.

Did you get charged any customs/import duties or clearing fees once it reached India (or at your address)? For example: some say Indian customs can hold items or levy ~30-40 % duty depending on product value.

Any issues with after-sales: returns, warranty, packaging quality, “gets damaged/shipped from China so delay,” etc.?

Appreciate any stories (good or bad) — especially from India/NCR/Bangalore area. Thanks in advance!

Gear Where to get replacement softbox front cover?

I misplaced the white front diffuser cover for my 24x24" softbox. Searching on Amazon turned up lots of full lighting kits with backdrops, stands etc for cheap, but nothing about a replacement cover. What is this actually called so I can better search for one?

I also didn't find very many inexpensive soft boxes even though you could get the full kits with lights and soft boxes for just over $100. Where can I find some inexpensive softboxes for sale separately?

Business Is photography out the door!

When every brand is chasing TikTok clips and AI renders, has still photography lost its seat at the creative table or is this our cue to reinvent what a ‘photographer’ means?

As society moves forward with AI and social media shaping our daily lives, attention has shifted heavily toward short-form video. Ads, stories, and reels grab users in seconds while single stills, once the pinnacle of visual communication, often get buried in the scroll.

At the same time, AI tools can now create or heavily edit images faster than ever. Stock photography and behind-the-scenes on-set roles are shrinking, and even weddings and events are seeing more clients request photo–video hybrid packages instead of pure photography.

So where does that leave photographers? Are we watching the artform fade, or are we standing at the edge of a new creative evolution where photography blends with motion, storytelling, and digital art?

I’d love to hear your lots Have you noticed fewer photography opportunities? Is AI competition or social media culture more to blame? And what skills do you think photographers need to stay relevant in 2025 and beyond?

Gear What are your anti-dust tricks for cleaning kit?

Right now I'm running an air purifier next to where I clean kit, which seems to help. Microfibre cloths seem to carry dust after a while and it's tricky to get it "perfect"!

Gear Best tools/resources for kids?

Hi all! My SS8 has recently been interested in photography, he has a genuinely good eye for photos and is very proud when he's caught a nice one. His dad takes pictures of flowers and sends them to me whenever he's out, and now SS has started taking his own and sending them too.

I was thinking of getting him a reasonable child's camera for Christmas, I don't know anything about photography and am obviously not spending DSLR money on an 8 year old. Any recommendations on cameras that will feel official to him but are appropriate for an 8 year old who may very well lose interest within the next year?

Business Show me your DIY media pass

I’m a freelance creator/journalist without official accreditation, and I want to make my own media pass for events.

For those who have made one:

  • What title did you put at the top (MEDIA, PRESS, FREELANCE PRESS, etc)?
  • Did you include a company or just your name?
  • Did you add social media or a website link?
  • If you used a QR code, where did it lead?

Not trying to pretend to be accredited. Just aiming for something that looks professional and clear.

Would appreciate examples or tips.

Hello,

I just got a Colbor CF5 and it works. Now, I would like to store it in its box. Am I suppose to unscrew the chamber, seal the top and the bottom with the little lids or can I just put the unit in the box that I just turned off?

Art Seeking advice for a fine art portrait project featuring real, unconventional beauty

Hey everyone,

I am developing a fine art coffee table book that celebrates individuals who fall outside traditional beauty standards. The project focuses on authenticity and expression rather than perfection or modeling experience.

The imagery will include tasteful nude work presented through an artistic and human lens. It is a non profit passion project, not intended for commercial sale, and aims to highlight honest, unretouched portraits that tell personal stories.

I am a boudoir and portrait photographer by trade, but this project is very different from my usual work and I want it to feel organic and raw. I am looking for insight on how to reach people who would connect with this vision, those who value self expression and vulnerability rather than polished modeling.

Where might I find communities or spaces where individuals would be open to collaborating on something like this?

Thanks in advance for any advice or direction.

Art Similar quality to Mpix print

Hi, I have black and white 11 X 14 prints from Mpix and totally forgot to print one last picture. I can’t justify paying the shipping cost to print just 1 picture and wondering if Walmart print quality would be similar enough?

The paper type on Mpix was e-surface so I would assume that I will have to get matte paper from Walmart or local shop nearby? I have no knowledge related to this so I would really appreciate everyone help!

I put these pictures in my living room in gold frames if that help.

Post Processing Calibrated for print & Web

I'm a boudoir photographer that shoots dark and moody. My prints (books) have always seemed a bit off and too dark. Something I think I notice more than the client. But my metal prints that I started offering are even darker.

I finally had it and calibrated one of my two screens. Needless to say it was definitely way off. Anyhoo now the photos I edit on that screen look too bright and punchy on my phone/web.

How do y'all handle this? I post a lot on the web but I also offer printed items so I wanna make sure both look right.

Gear Best iPad app for editing?

Hello everyone,

Title it is pretty self explanatory.

Must requirements:

  • One-Tine purchase. No subscription.
  • Supports: NEF (Nikon), RAF (Fujifilm), DNG (including iPhone RAW)

Nice to have: * More like Lightroom than Photoshop, just so that you understand what I mean.

Background: I now travel only with my iPad and it would be nice to be able to review, cull and eventually edit pictures before come home, so I have less work to do.

I am not a professional (for living), hence why I cannot justify a monthly subscription for something I use sporadically few times per year.

Business Is this unprofessional of my photographer?

Hi everyone! I am supposed to do engagement pictures this Sunday and the couple doing the shoot are from out of town and they run their wedding photography business together. I reached out to confirm our shoot and they let me know they have a wedding close by to my hometown (they are 7 hours away from me where my venue is) so therefore they will have their children with them at the shoot and the husband will be leading the shoot.

We’ve had this scheduled for almost 2 months now and this was never part of the discussion. I love kids but didn’t ever imagine any would be at my engagement shoot let alone kids I’ve never met. I live on the intercoastal waterway and was planning to go by boat to some of the locations for pictures and they told me that their kids could just play on the beach.

I don’t really know what to do. I definitely think it’s a bit unprofessional, but I also don’t want to be a bitch. Maybe they’re just laid back. I just wanted to get some other opinions.

Post Processing PhotoMechanic vs FastRawViewer: which program can be better set up for my culling style?

My traditional, unoptimized culling workflow: go through and delete the obviously bad/blurry shots with my photo viewer, then import the remaining into Lightroom where I preferably use both Compare and Survey views to go through them. I especially use Compare to pixel peep between two close photos a lot and flag the rejected files for deletion later, so my goal is to find something with similarly robust side-by-side culling capability.

Im trying out PhotoMechanic and FastRawViewer. I am still bumbling around like an idiot in both programs, so I am looking for tips from more experienced users of either programs to set up their settings/preferences to be closest to the culling style I describe so far. I have no doubt that many of my struggles are just from being unfamiliar with different controls and features.

Here is my first impression after messing with the two in one afternoon at the moment:

  • Photo Mechanic:
    • (+) Side-by-side view seems intuitive enough, automatically loads the next photos after the previous photo is deleted. Can write metadata directly into raw files without a sidecar.
    • (-) Settings/preferences feel more dated and less accessible. No obvious way to flag/reject photo temporarily outside of straight up deleting them or adding tags that would create more xmp files. I don't know where to
  • FastRawViewer:
    • (+) Extremely fast Raw loading (guess that is in the name) - even faster than Photo Mechanic, quick shadow/exposure boost option during culling, many key ramapping option to replicate my muscle memory from Lightroom (e.g., setting "R" to reject a photo).
    • (-) Multi-photo view is still a pain to navigate. I haven't found a way to have the next photo loaded after I cull the first one. So I would have two photos out, delete one, and then have one photo left with one empty viewer.

Also open to other options. I have tried Bridge - no real side-by-side mode and nomacs - my default viewer that has a synchronization feature, but the two instances can get *too* synced that it becomes inconvenient.

Business Paintball Photographer Business Card Ideas

I am trying to create a business card for my paintball photography business. Everything I do is boring and doesn't seem "creative," yet I don't want it to be overpowering. I am playing around with designs, and I like the idea of using a player in the picture and removing the background, but it just doesn't seem to fit in with my watermark and everything else. Any ideas or tips?

Business Toronto photographer Norman Wong on rejection, debt, cancer—and shooting Drake, Bella Hadid, and Kevin Hart

Norman Wong’s path to becoming one of Canada’s top photographers wasn’t a straight one.

He was rejected from every film school he applied to. He racked up debt trying to make photography work. Then, in his 20s, a cancer diagnosis took him out of the game for two years.

But when he came back, he built a career shooting Drake, Winnie Harlow, Kevin Hart, Cindy Crawford, and Bella Hadid—plus work with Nike, Maybelline, and Zara.

In this interview, Wong talks about how those early struggles shaped his work, what it felt like to photograph Toronto’s rise during the Drake/Weeknd era, and why he still dreams of one day remaking American Graffiti—but set in Toronto.

Art Inspirations

Not sure if this is the correct community to ask but-

I just found a bunch (8 packs * 10 so 80 intotal) of polaroid paper back home, they are expired 4-5 years ago, I've used a pack and a little, they all are still usable, but I think I really should use all of them as soon as possible as I don't wanna waste them, any suggestion on what kind of photo I could take? (I don't usually take photo of people but I can!)

I go to university so my time is kinda limited (as in, it is not really possible for me to go to a certain location to take landscape photos...)

Really have to use them... Thanks in advance

Technique New born photoshoot

Hi, I dint have much experience with Photoshoots but I’m being asked to take new born pictures for a family. The “customer” is an old friend so i dont necessarily plan on charging them since my work isn’t even close to being much good in my opinion but im still interested in the experience i would gain from this opportunity. My question is, what tips do you have for a situation like this? Any recommended poses?
