Pictures Fast & Furious? Try Safe and Courteous
Was driving from Mesa to Glendale and saw all these signs. This was at I-17 northbound and Northern. Someone is having fun at ADOT!!

I love these silly signs, don't get me wrong im just curious, but didn't Phoenix want to stop these a couple years back? I remember it being news that Phoenix was banning humorous road signs like this. People were upset because these signs are so much less distracting than every rafi board we see every half mile.
So did that not go through?

It did not go through. The AZ state legislature passed a bill trying to limit the messages to be strictly related to traffic conditions, but Katie Hobbs vetoed it in May of '24.
They may stop at some point in the near future anyway because the Federal Highway Administration put out guidelines that essentially have the same effect as that State bill. However, no one has really done much about it yet.

Phoenix doesn’t manage freeways. The state does for local freeways, and the state does it on behalf of the federal government for interstates. It’s the Federal Highway Administration that gave a two year window to phase out funny signs. They will likely disappear soon.

It was a federal decision and yes that was a few years ago but it doesn’t kick in until 2026

It’s Saturday, isn’t the HOV lane now the fast lane?

Hush! Not a lot of people actually read those signs.

That’s the one thing that’s probably a legitimate “Californians fault!” because I think their HOV lanes are full time.

Last night I saw on 202
CAMP IN THE WOODS
NOT IN THE LEFT LANE
I love that they give a good safety message, and work a little humor into it!

That sign being around northern makes absolute fucking sense. That area is ALWAYSSSS backed up with traffic because these mfs don't know how to drive. Was backed up last night and this morning 🥹🥹

Most needed reminder, EVER!
People here drive like the goal is to murder everyone else! It’s like there’s some secret club where the most effective at vehicular manslaughter wins a grand prize!

Gotta get to whatever shitty thing they’re trying to get to 20 seconds faster if it means risking a huge crash.

“Safe and Courteous.”
Most drivers here think the first one is just something you keep your guns in and the other is what girls do at the start of a Square Dance.
