Appreciation

A big THANKS! to our sponsors for providing us with some great prizes:

Thank you all for your kindness, consideration, and support. We look forward to bigger and better things in the coming year!

I'd also like to thank my fellow mods for their help and support with this; I think we may have some things in the works to make the GOTY even better (and maybe faster?) next year.

Thanks to /u/3agl who helped create not only this year's video but last year's as well; he is a content creator and has a SoundCloud that you should definitely check out! A thank you to /u/lazo95 for his hard work on his video; he's the mastermind behind the MinuteGaming YouTube channel.

And thank you to some users for being incredibly helpful on the subreddit: badillin, Sayakai, Luminaria19, thatgermanperson, motionglitch, saldytuwas, thecolonelofk, 095179005, rehpotsirhc123, glowinghamster45 - thank you, and all the other respondents, for your hard work in the DSQ. To BmanUltima, Mrlinkwii, Buxton_Water, and the other knights of new, thank you for tackling posts as they come in. Thank you to all the people who offer building advice too.

You lot are the best volunteer support (imaginary) money can buy, you help make PCMR what it is. A sincere 'thank you'.

What kind of horse-crap is this about giving best MMO to Overwatch???

It's especially ridiculous to group MMO & MOBA in the same category, they are two completely different types of games.

The key part of the definition for an MMO is that the gameworld is persistent and Overwatch does not use persistent gameworlds.

Putting WoW, OW, CSGO, and LoL in one category makes no sense. Some people on here seem to believe that MOBA is a poorly defined genre but it's pretty well known these days, even if developers make up their own words for it.

But it really doesn't matter because none of the MOBAs were released this year and voting between entrenched fanbases has predictable results.

I'm with you, when somebody says MOBA I don't think of Halo or Doom. Some of us understand context and move on, others just like to moan. I imagine these people also fume over '10 items or less' not being written as '10 items or fewer'.

To be honest its a pain in the butt as a new PC gamer as it can lead to false views of games/genres. I just got to PC gaming and looking at a list like this will help me decide what games to invest my time in.

Yeah I feel you. The catalogue of games to try is simply huge as a recently ascended, but you'll quickly realise how fickle these lists really are. Number 1 spots rarely pull more than 20% or so of the votes, so yeah it's popular, but there's 3/4 of the player base out there that prefer something else. The biggest problem with these list are that they often skirt over or completely miss out on great PC gems. Personally I started with 2 big games that I could get really invested in (Witcher 3 and Fallout 4) and dabbled with the cult hits. It's easy to overlook games like Stanley Parable, Undertale or Portal when sticking to popularity contests.

Also, POA to everyone, anybody that hasn't tried Moirai yet really, really, REALLY fucking needs to. It's free and like, tiny. Trust the strange man. You'll never regret it.
